Abingdon, Virginia
Enjoy the run of this one of a kind antique grist mill, our 2 acre property next to a wonderful rushing creek waters with water fall in front of the bungalow. Step back to the 16th Century and you will find everything you need to enjoy your stay in nature. Our bungalow is at Cascades at Parks Mill, the Abingdon grist mill built in 1790 which still contains all the original mill equipment and machinery.
The most scenic moment can be found while sitting on a large cantilevered wood deck overlooking the creek with views of cascading waterfalls. Bring your toothbrush, we have everything else for you. The kitchen is furnished with everything you would need to cook complete meals including spices and all kinds of cooking implements. The bathroom is complete with fresh white towels and his and hers robes to keep you cozy and clean soaps and hair product. You will love all the comfort we have provided. The bedroom has a full king bed with cotton flannel sheets, hypo allergenic bedding and covers. Pillows are down like king pillows. Enjoy your winter stay in warmth and comfort in nature. Additional small room with pull out queen bed but no connected bath is available upon request. No televisions provided, but good wifi for your laptops.
NOT FOR COLD WEATHER OR FAMILIES. I'll start by saying I have booked and stayed at countless home rentals through a variety of rental agencies, and I have never come across a more poorly advertised and managed rental before. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review. Our visit was for the 5 days over the Thanksgiving holiday with just 3 of us - my wife, toddler and me. At the time of booking, there were 3 bedrooms in the listing under Rooms tab. However in reality there is only ONE bedroom, and it is a studio, not a solo bedroom/house. The 2nd bedroom is not a bedroom at all (only a small room with pull-out couch, which when opened has no room to stand in, and no central heating so walls stayed Cold) and is not connected to the studio. There was no central heating in the Studio space, leading to the walls and floors staying cold. Also there is no kitchen table or dining space. The owner told us we could eat in the Lodge, a separate building on property. However, when we went into the Lodge it was 47 degrees - so Thanksgiving dinner was had using our cooler as a dining table. The final two nights we had visits from some sort of varmint or rodent who ate an entire loaf of bread amongst other things. I notified the owner, but they were unable to help until after our stay was completed. I could see this property being a great base for an active outdoor vacation for two during the warmer months, but it is absolutely NOT built for families or cold weather. *After being made aware, the owner updated listing, however it is still not listed or described properly for how the space actually functions.
This was a great getaway. My grandchildren enjoyed the space and had room to bicycle, explore and just generally be outside with supervision.
This was a fabulous find!! Amazing views and the Mill was a special attraction! Downtown Abingdon was lovely for shopping and dinning. Short drive to Bristol for race events. Such a great weekend get away!!
Rocking on the porch by a creek, taking photos of the old mill, eating under the trees, biking the Virginia Creeper, enjoying peace and quiet. Perfect getaway!
