(In May of 2024, we finished building a wood-fired sauna and off- grid shower building at this property. Hope you'll like it!)

Placed along the gorgeous Fall River, this A-frame cabin has a secluded wilderness feel, just two miles West of Grand Marais. Take advantage of Grand Marais' renowned restaurants, shops, and shoreline or relax by your river-side campfire after a day of exploration or relaxation. Enjoy the surrounding wood, river, and trails of this 25 acre escape. Relax orcatch up on a good book in the sun-filled and spacious interior, from a hammock between two birch trees, or on the large front deck surrounded by nature.

Our family loves hiking the north shore's rivers and always thought it would be great to have a cabin on one of those great rivers. Here it is!

Even though the cabin is located only a mile from the shore of Lake Superior and 2.5 miles from Grand Marais, it maintains a truly North woods, off grid feel: a winding private gravel road heads up the hill from Lake Superior, crossing over a small creek, where you'll park at the trail head. From there you'll hike 400 yards (about a 5 minute walk) on a foot path to this charming cabin in the woods, perched along the bluff of the Fall River.

A cart is available if you want it. The cabin has a well-equipped kitchen with pots and pans, silverware, glassware, a propane stovetop, a double insulated cooler, and over 30 gallons of water for drinking, dishes, and cleaning.

There is a cozy bedroom downstairs with a queen bed and up the spiral staircase is a window-filled loft with three twin beds. All beds will be supplied with pillows and bedding.

There is a small solar powered system supporting the lighting for the bedroom, kitchen, and loft and a phone charger.

The Sun-Mar compost toilet is environmentally friendly, convenient, and comfortable. The deck and included hammocks offer the opportunity to relax and bask in the 25 acre wood and listen to the river run.

Some will enjoy splashing in the river, or swimming beneath the waterfall where the Fall River meets the lake. Some will buy a day-pass to the Grand Marais YMCA (around $10) to take advantage of the gym, workout facility, showers, hot tub, sauna, and pool or visit the shower facility at the Grand Marais municipal campground $4.

The newly constructed A-frame (2019-2020) is comfortable with many windows and a vaulted ceiling that offer abundant natural lighting and breezes.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy walking along the bank or through the moving water of the larger Fall River, or racing sticks, and rock searching on the smaller creek. From the cabin, expect to see deer, squirrels, and birds ranging from songbirds to woodpeckers, grouse, ravens, and bald eagles. The woods are also home to less frequent visitors like black bear and moose. Coyote and timber-wolves can be heard howling nearby as well. Also keep an eye out for edible (and non-edible) mushrooms as well as wild raspberries.

All of this, a short bike ride, run, or drive from the Lake Superior shoreline and Grand Marais!

This off-grid cabin offered us a truly unique Northwoods experience that allowed us to disconnect and experience off grid life in the woods while being a few minutes from downtown Grand Marais. It was the best of both worlds, both stunningly beautiful... can't wait to come back!

Secluded but still close location. Short walk on a trail gets you here. Close to grand Marais and everything you need. Sauna was very relaxing. Situated on a river. Bathroom is disconnected from building but still accessible from the deck. Would definitely stay here again. Hosts made this stay very easy!

Very good communication with host, when needed. Cabin in the woods was clean, great windows that provided plenty of sunlight. Very rustic. Fire pit was nice. Description of property does mention the length to get from parking to River Run cabin. Keep in mind that is a long haul up and down over tree roots. We managed, but just bring what you need. Plenty of large containers for washing dishes and such. LED lights were ok, but provided minimal light for reading at night. Bring bug spray. Sauna and shower were an awesome addition and a highlight that made the stay enjoyable and complete. A bonus for our stay was that we heard moose matting calls very close to our place.

We made this a stop over after a week in the BWCA as a transition back to reality and it was perfect. So relaxing and comfortable. Would highly recommend this over a hotel any day. Beautiful property and access to river

This cabin was fantastic to unplug and get away for a nice weekend. The hills on the way to cabin were a little more than expected but doable. Pack light and have a buddy to help push the cart. The sauna was amazing and if you shower when you are done the water will be warmed up. We loved every minute. Temps were 40's to 60's and the cabin stayed nice and warm. No issues with the composting toilet, there was plenty of solar power, drinking water, blankets and firewood. Head lamp recommend. We did hear a moose down by the water.

We loved how remote it felt. It was also very comfortable. For being an off-grid cabin it had heat, lights, water and refrigeration (cooler with ice supplied). We loved exploring up and down the Falls River.

We enjoyed 3 nights with our 3 granddaughters 9/12/12. It was a little rough getting everything in & out, but we all really enjoyed the cabin. Our granddaughters are very picky eaters, so we ate supper every night at the cabin (so we had a full heavy cooler) Thank goodness they had 3 carts where you parked, to tote all of our gear in. The cabin was nicely lit after dark with solar lights. The girls loved the loft with each of them having their own beds. The outdoor potty on the deck did smell pretty bad, but there is also a porta potty where you park your car that could be used that smelled much better. Because of the drought conditions the river wasn't running at all & the hike down to the river is very steep. Loved it that at night we played games, cards & sat by the fire, No TV! We have Verizon and did have good reception, could even send pics. The last night sitting around the fire we did hear a Moose, Pretty Cool! I would recommend River Run for a family of 5. We know our granddaughters will have fond memories of this trip long after we are gone.
