Rapid City, South Dakota
Riley's Retreat is centrally located in the Black Hills on Edelweiss Mountain near beautiful Pactola Reservoir just off of Hwy 385. The central location puts you within 30 minutes of most of the major attractions in the Black Hills.
Riley's Retreat is a great home for families. National Forest is the back yard.
The main level has a kitchen and separated dining area. It has a sunken living room that leads to the deck. This living room has a hide-abed couch as well. A bedroom with a king bed is on this level. A bathroom with a shower is located on this level.
Take the spiral staircase to the bedroom upstairs with a Queen bed and a separate bedroom with 2 twin beds. You must walk through one bedroom to access the bedroom with the twin beds.
The lower level has a living room with a tv. There is a bedroom with a queen bed. Another room has a queen bed as well and there is a bathroom with a shower and tub.
There is central air on main level and basement. Upper level has a window air conditioner.
Washer and dryer facilities are on the lower level.
Please be advised for small children or older people there are spiral staircases going up to upstairs level and then down to the basement level.
There is a child's gate provided if you need to block off the stairs.
There is a 4 person hot tub that you access from the lower level.
The back of the house sits next to the National Forest so there is plenty of room for children to play.
Turkey and deer are in the area and you can enjoy them from the deck or the hot tub.
Parking for 4 vehicles.
For guests travel on motorcycles there is 3 miles of gravel to the home.
There is room for 2 small trailers.
This is a great home for families as the children actually have plenty of room to play outside and explore.
Nice place that was clean and perfectly located for our travels. Property manager was very helpful as well.
We came to the Black Hills for a weekend of fall trail riding in our side by side. We had 2 trailers and parking was great as well as getting the trailers in and out without too much trouble. The hot tub was a nice place to start the day and living areas accommodated our group and offered separate when needed. Would come back again, highly recommend as a fall destination!
The house was perfect for our needs! Julie was quick to reply and very helpful with questions about the area as well as about the property! Heads up for those pulling trailers, the driveway has a pretty steep hill and tight curve/corner. We would definitely stay here again!!!
The drive may seem long to get there, but the views are worth it! We had a great time!
The house was wonderful with beautiful views in every direction. All the family loved the seclusion. Julie was wonderful to work with and the process was so simple. We will definitely think about coming back!
House was big enough. Worked for our needs. As listing stated bit of a long road of hi way but wasn’t problem. We parked our bikes at the office and drive vehicle to house.
This house was great and perfect for our family getaway.
Location of the cabin was great, very clean, we will be back.
House was a nice fit for my family. Property is in the woods, nice decks, and very quite.
This cabin in the black hills was a great place to stay for a group of 7. It was very comfortable and is in such a beautiful place.
Clean. Roomy. Furnished nicely. Had everything we needed. Really able to enjoy our stay
Clean house great location great host. Will be blooking with them again
We had a nice family vacation here. Pros: Clean Well stocked Plenty of room Beautiful location on the mountain Looked better than pics- updated decor Wi-Fi and TV Hot tub with plenty of towels Great responsiveness of hosts Cons: -Two bathrooms was a little tough with our crowd, but doable (no bathroom upstairs) -The doors lacked privacy. Wasn’t a big deal for our group -the biggest con for us was that is was quite a trek to get down the mountain for the day, and added to driving times. We still liked being on the mountain, but just something to be aware of. It’s a great place with great hosts, we recommend highly!
It was a great place. Kitchen well supplied. Would VRBO again. Just heads up three miles of gravel will take 15 minutes to travel, great bonding time.
Our family enjoyed our stay very much! We went sight seeing during the day and came “home” for supper and visiting in the evenings. We sat on the balcony a lot - beautiful views! There wasn’t a lot of level back yard for kids to run and the spiral stairs were a bit tight. Overall we do recommend this spot for your family’s getaway!
We had a great weekend. Everything at the house was clean and organized.
Good place to stay! A bit outdated but doesn’t really matter when you aren’t there much through your trip! Everything worked and was fine for us. It was a bit of a drive off of the main road which kind of stinks but I’m sure if I would’ve done my homework first I would’ve seen that. It was my first time there so when I saw 17 miles to Mt Rushmore I wasn’t concerned but more like a 45 minute drive.
This was a very beautiful property. There was plenty of room for us. Sitting outside at night was beautiful and peaceful. It's at the end of a road and very private. Julie was SO helpful.
This was a house that was off the beaten path but work for us. Had enough space for us to come back and cook and hang out with family after a long day of traveling around the black hills We had a family of 12 and it worked
As a disclaimer I knew the limitations of the property for our family before we rented based on the description on VRBO. When I booked 6 months ago the VRBO website said 93% of properties in the Black Hills were already booked. We had a very limited selection. Book very early if you’re visiting in the summer. The house was nice but 2 bathrooms are hardly enough for 11-12 people!! There was a lot of brushing teeth in the kitchen sink due to showers, etc. in the bathrooms. Most of the bedrooms have very funky doors which provide very limited privacy. A constant flow of 12 people staying at the house does take a toll on it. They take reasonable care of it. The requirement to haul our own trash and leave the house trashless was a royal hassle in our private cars. Paying over $2600.00 for a 5 night stay seems almost like California VRBO prices in South Dakota. On the plus side, the house is located in a gorgeous area with plenty of good parking. Very quiet area in the woods. The home seemed very clean. Overall we had a good time in the beautiful Black Hills.
Enjoyed the peaceful location. Enjoyed many meals with the family. Well equipped kitchen
