State College, Pennsylvania
Charming, updated and renovated cape-cod revival house in the tree-lined, picturesque Holmes-Foster neighborhood super close to downtown and PSU campus. Everything is clean, and energy efficient. Parking (2-3 cars max) and internet included.
The house has 3 rooms with queen-sized beds plus a fully-finished basement with another queen-sized bed. There are 2.5 baths, including a brand new primary bath. Floors are hardwood and natural stone/porcelain tile with carpet in the fully-finished basement. The attached porch has windows on three sides and a standing desk for working. The house has high efficiency multi-zone heat pumps and the upstairs bathrooms have radiant floor heating. There is a 75 gallon high efficiency heat pump water heater, so there is a ton of hot water for everyone. The kitchen features an induction range, high-efficiency Bosch dishwasher and Fisher-Paykal refrigerator with custom-built Amish cabinets. There is a fireplace in the living room, a garage (off-street parking for up to three medium cars - 1 in garage and 2 in driveway - a tight fit but it works), and a great outdoor space with a grill, table, and chairs for warm weather. A lot of State College's best places for food, drink, and entertainment are within a 10-minute walk. The house has a fast (gigabit) internet connection (1,000 mbps download), cable TV, and a printer. There is a large high efficiency washer/dryer and an iron and ironing board.
The four queen sized beds are all very comfortable with high-quality pillows and linens. There is also a twin-sized foam mattress that can be set up on the floor somewhere for an extra bed.
The Holmes-Foster neighborhood, where the house is located, is one of the original neighborhoods of State College. It is characterized by interesting and classic architecture, tree-lined streets, parks, and being close to downtown/campus and yet quiet and residential. The house is on a small hill that locals often use for running sprints and the PSU golf course (nice also for jogging around) is a 5-10 minute walk. Everything you need is close by and it is easy to get in and out of town.
If you're going downtown or to campus, walking is often the easiest and fastest option - or biking if you bring a bike! Beaver Stadium is on the far side of campus from the house, but is still only 2 miles, so definitely walkable. There is also a bus service that stops nearby on Atherton if you don't want to walk. Other campus events will be closer. You'll get a ticket if you park overnight on the street in front of the house, but you can put one car in the garage and two in the driveway if needed. If you have big vehicles only 1-2 may fit.
Perfect place to stay for a Penn State football weekend. Clean, great amenities, plenty of space and an easy walk to downtown. I would highly recommend to any visitors!
Perfect house for any occasion. Craft style but updated with every amenity. Good size, great for a small group. Close to town in a great neighborhood. Would certainly stay again.
Our family enjoyed the house and it’s proximity to restaurants. There was length of room. The PDF outlining the information about the house features was very thorough.
This home has been updated and is beautiful and welcoming. We spent most of our time in the backyard, including meals. The bedrooms, living areas and dine-in kitchen are spacious and comfortable, including the finished area of the basement, which has plenty of windows that offer natural light during the day. Jonathan, the owner, was timely and thorough in his communications to prepare us for our stay and quick to respond to questions. This was the perfect place to gather with family to celebrate our recent Penn State graduate’s naval officer commissioning.
We had a great time at this place - it was in great shape and had everything we needed to set up for an awesome weekend. Jonathan was extremely responsive and helpful which was much appreciated. The location is amazing and having the parking available was a huge bonus.
We had a wonderful time at PSU and had a wonderful stay at this property. We would definitely recommend!
Met some friends and our high school kiddos that are exploring colleges and we all had an amazing weekend. House was a perfect fit for us.
The house is terrific, as is the location. The host, Jonathan, could not be nicer.
The house is in a lovely neighborhood, an easy walk to campus and even to the stadium. It’s modern and well-designed, super clean, and came with little things that made all the difference (coffee + toothpaste? Be still my heart!). Jonathan was responsive, accommodating, and helpful - the perfect host. The bedrooms are spacious and super comfy. We didn’t need the basement space, but it’s giant and offers excellent privacy. There’s only one shower, typical of homes of a similar age, and it wasn’t a problem, just something to keep in mind. We will absolutely be checking availability for a repeat visit next season. Would highly recommend!
Will book again
