We loved the house especially the back porch but felt is was dirty and should be powerwashed during the summer. The basement is very musty and a dehumidifier should be installed. No one really wanted to use the basement. Also the dishwasher was broken and not fixed until Thursday, the day before we were leaving. the decor and furniture is great.
We've renewed for next year. We appreciate having a clean, usable grill this year. Please make sure it is filled with propane as it is difficult to check whether the tank has gas or not. The walkway stairs to the beach were easier to use his year. It was annoying and quite noisy having the landscapers doing their work on Thursday afternoon. The sound from the leaf blower awakened a sleeping baby. I understand that grounds maintenance needs to take place, and I am suggesting it be done on Friday morning/afternoon after the renters have moved out and the next set of renters arrive. That is a span of 5 hours. The larger dishwasher did not work.
We have stayed in this house for three consecutive summers and are pleased to say that the house has had a few updates and had been cleaned thoroughly before our stay this year. We love the location and the extensive front porch where our grand children stayed and played for many hours. The only negative impact were the boards on the boardwalk continue to deteriorate which were a hazard in some places and the locking mechanism of the downstairs laundry room door would not allow the doors to be locked.
We have been coming to Debordieu for 30 years. This was our first stay in Palmetto Cottage. I realize it is an older house and I loved the quaintness of the layout and furniture. There are a number of repairs and things that should be done. For example, there was no can opener. There are no lights on the lower outside deck. We had a low country boil there and it was too dark to stay there. A lock needs to be on the downstairs bathroom that serves guests. I could not find a light switch for the left carport. The electrical plug used for golf carts kept blowing. I would not book it again, however there is no better beach location. That is the selling point!!
We have rented this home two years in a row and put a deposit down for next year due to its location. However, our hopes are that the porch will be a lot cleaner next year and tge boardwalk will be in good condition and the runners will be clean. We had to request assistance with cleaning tge runners, repairing a dangerous place in the board walk, and repairing a commode on tge first day we arrived. These issues were addressed by tge rental company quickly , but should have been taken care of before any quests had arrived. Also tge dining room rug is in poor condition and needs to be replaced.
The colony was STUNNING. Unfortunately Palmetto Cottage had a few things disappointing. For starters, there were ants EVERYWHERE when we walked in. Cob webs on the lamps, dust everywhere, dirty countertops, etc. They did claim to sanitize the toilets and they also wrapped each set of linen in plastic which I would assume is from the cleaners. The staff is very accommodating and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable.
All was good. Great house for three generations of us staying there & we have reserved for next year. Several things to address: -the walkway to the beach needs to be improved as the final 2 feet from the steps to the beach is a challenge/can be unsafe for all ages especially when carrying chairs & umbrellas to/from the beach/house. All the houses next the Palmetto had good steps to the beach. -replace the broken hose on the walkway as it is has a tear where the water comes out. -the Weber grill needed to be cleaned & we did not use it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Palmetto Cottage and wished we could have stayed longer. The house was lovely and private access to the beach was very convenient. The house and setting were perfect for our group of six adults and two small children with plenty of room to spread out over three floors. The separate huge dining room was amazing. We loved the views, especially from the upper bedrooms. Waking up to a view of the sunrise over the ocean was special. Would visit again in a heartbeat.
Beautiful house but a few concerns that made the price frustrating. I never got a gate access code so I had to wait an hour when I got there to get in which was incredibly obnoxious. then once I went to climate to bed both beds upstairs had blood stains on the sheets and the blankets downstairs on the couch had big stains on them. Something was up with the electrical in the downstairs bedroom with the twin beds. The lights would not turn on at all. I checked all the breaker boxes and so did my husband but we couldn’t get any lighting on.
What a great space for large families! We loved the 2 family suites- plenty of space for everyone to spread out and have a bit of privacy when needed, plus downstairs bedroom and large master suite upstairs. Living areas were spacious and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the wood burning fireplace, such a cozy place to gather this chilly Thanksgiving. Nice selection of dinnerware and glasses. Kitchen could be better supplied for those who like to cook.
