In August 2014, we found after a long search, a large house in Orgiva, right in the center near the church. It must have been one of the first houses in Orgiva. On the ground floor was earlier a joinery and we found a lot of tools and materials from earlier. It seemed in fairly good condition and had a lot of windows, so a lot of light, making it very friendly.

The purchase negotiations were rather difficult, as 12 owners had to reconcile, but it succeeded and we bought.

The House by the Church looks towards the south and is looking directly at the Sierra Lujar. It also looks at a garden which was pretty wild. We searched the owner to find out if we could buy it. It came back to long negotiations, but we had again luck and in December it came to buying.
The carpenter from earlier name was Jose and had the nickname El Garzopo, so they knew the house and knows it is still under Joseico El Garzopo. Thus it is said vortan El Garzopo. When we granddaughter of Jose (even an older lady) said they had with tears fight for joy!
Come and I'll tell you how the nickname El Garzopo came about!

El Garzopo is a great house. Below garage, top 2 floors premises and forwards hear outside a large garden with pool. We have 3 bedrooms, thus will find up to 8 people comfortable space.
When we started with the construction works in January 15 anyone clear in what poor condition the house was located, but soon we knew that the building fabric was very poor and the more was swept away, the more we realized how bad the state!
Shortly after Paco, our Spanish Maurer, had begun the House prepare to add it to plaster new, he called us to tell us that he could not continue because of the risk it might be thought that the whole house might collapse!
He asked a friend (architect and structural engineer) to come to see the house. The came and after a lengthy inspection, he said we should tear down the house. I made it clear that would never come into question and asked him to second best idea Aslo he looked at the house again and then said tearing
Some time later, this friend came again and we ueberhoerten a conversation between him and a few other Freemasons when he told them that he would have never seen a house in a worse condition !!
Paco assured himself constantly that the doors and windows of the north side remained closed for fear that a sudden strong gust of wind could bring the building to collapse. At first I laughed about it, because I thought he would make jokes, but soon I realized that he took it all very seriously!
Gradually, actually the whole house was torn inside, only the roof remained, the walls to the neighbors and the facade ... the whole house and especially the pillars were a steel corset, so some neighbors already Eiffel Tower name!
Of course the construction work have again taken much longer than originally planned. For July and August we 2016hatten requests that we had to cancel unfortunately. For the October 16 we had a fixed reservation, and we had to cancel ultimately.
Garzopo is a real jewel! We invested a lot, a lot of love and positive energy and believe that this, as everything is ready, reflects.
Everything flows in harmony, the same style and the same topic, see sic him whole house and garden again. All the construction - and decorative material is available are coordinated and complement each other. Even during a longer stay, you will always discover new details.
The house is located in a very quiet part Orgivas, but still right in the center, next to the church. It must have been one of the first houses of the place, so close to the church. The next restaurant where your your café con leche con tostada de tomate (breakfast) whatâ enjoy, located a stone's throw from the house. And since you are already in the center with all the shops, banks and restaurants.
If you Garzopo enters from the garage, you can either go up to the living area or in the garden.
If you go to the garden, one comes first in the (specified by us) conservatory, a covered, brick seating area. Since you're in Somme rim kuehlen shadows and to the very, very rare rainy days in winter in the dry. Next to it is a bathroom with shower and washing machine.
From here a spiral staircase leads up to the first floor.
It continues now in the garden. Here is an outdoor shower, with steps lead to the pool. The pool can be heated with a heat pump (extra fees depending on usage) and has a built-in sitting area with Whirl / Jacuzzi. The entire pool is tiled with very exclusive Glassblaettchen from Italy.
The 5 old trees, which we found in the purchase, we of course reserve (2 lemon - 1 orange 1 mandarins - and 1 large avocado tree). Thus, you have plenty of shade and quiet corners. You can find a shady pergola, a cozy and very hidden sitting area under a lemon tree and an additional sitting area with a large Moorish table under the avocado tree. Even at a barbecue we thought.
This is a wonderful and very quiet place, with lots of plants, colors and scents, to put you in the hammock, last all hang out and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere!

Up in. 1 Floor is the living - dining room and the kitchen, everything is open and generous, very bright, with lots of windows. Even in mid-summer The couple is pleasant there, his light, cool breeze goes durch's house. We have down the river cut and peeled the cane and used it here, as almost all over the house, as a blanket, held together by zoga a handmade from sharp grass string - the earlier a very popular building material.
The walls we have painted in different pastel colors to create a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere.
The kitchen is fully equipped, complete with dishwasher, oven and microwave and of course all the other utensils that belong in a kitchen, such as a kettle, toaster etc ..
From the dining room it goes out to the terrace, with views of the garden, to the Church and the opposite lying mountains of the Sierra Lujar. There is also another (handmade) dining table with chairs, so you can always dial out if you would like to eat inside or outside.
The living room comprises a large and a comfortable sofa next to a brick fireplace (with Glasstuer) and another brick seating area. Here is also a built Buecherschrank, satellite TV and of course WiFi.
Throughout the house (living room), we have underfloor heating (heated with biomass, olive stones and almond shells), for the cooler months of the year.
The water is naturally heated by solar energy.
We have the house very well insulated and the windows are double glazed (which is rather not usual here), therefore it is in the summer rather coolly in the house and warm in winter.
All windows and doors, as well as the built-in closets and furniture are of high quality, made by a carpenter.
From the living room it goes in a corridor, with an additional bathroom next to a bedroom with a southern balcony (original), which overlooks the quiet street.
All clay tiles, the bathroom tiles and sinks, as well as most of the decorations were made in a family (2 brothers) in the vicinity of Granada. Most of it is done by hand and - painted. In the bathrooms, the sinks are painted with the same pattern as the decorative Flieseneinsaetze - which contributes to Wohlfuehltatmosphaere.
The Moorish terracotta tables in the garden, we are also handmade by local artists on the terraces.
From the corridor to get to the stairwell, either Geht's down to the garage or out into the street, or up to 2 further bedrooms and a large bathroom.
The open roof top is original. All bars, as well as the reed and the Yoga are unchanged, albeit cleaned and mended.
I spent months with the clean, repair, and letting the roof! Have during this time inhaled a lot of dust and my knees have complained vehemently!
The master bedroom (masterbedroom) goes, gen south and leads out onto a large terrace, with wonderful views over the church and over the mountains of the Sierra de Lujar. Part of the terrace is roofed, therefore it is also in the summer shady and pleasant. By the west window always goes a cool breeze, which makes it very pleasant in summer. The bedroom has access to a look bright and airy bathroom, which also leads to the patio beyond. The pipe of the chimney (living room) leads through the bathroom and thus heated this winter.
The other (North) bedroom has access to the same bathroom, and thus also to the terrace.
The water in the house passes through a descaler and is therefore very pleasant on the skin.
In all the beds we have mattresses and bedding of high quality to ensure that one good and deep schlaeft. Each room has extra pillows, as well as cover in winter.
All windows have mosquito nets and to keep the balcony doors southern curtains around the house insect free.

We had a wonderful holiday in this house. We really enjoyed being able to enjoy Spanish life for a while. The house is fully equipped. The pool was lovely. The different balconies were also nice. The beds and the showers were also very good. We also experienced the contact with the host as very pleasant.

We have just returned from a fantastic week hiking in the Sierra Nevada and El Garzopo proved to be the perfect base to explore the local area. The house is right near the centre of Orgiva, yet despite this is very peaceful, spacious and has a surprisingly large garden (with pool) for a property so close to the middle of town. It is clearly a very old building but looks to have been recently renovated so that it keeps all of its Spanish Town-House character but without feeling 'dated'. Everything works as it should in the property - powerful, hot showers on demand, an efficient cooker and (unusually for a holiday rental property) no strange smells!! There are several very nice bars and restaurants within a very short walk of the property and a supermarket just around the corner. If you want to explore further afield you'll need a car and although the house has it's own garage, the streets near the property are VERY narrow so we parked our car in the large, free carpark 2 minutes walk away so that didn't bother us. El Garzopo is the perfect place to spend a few days relaxing in a quiet Andalusian town or as a base to return to for a few drinks around the pool or on the terrace, looking at the stunning mountain scenery as the sun goes down. Bliss!

Al Garzopo, This house was truly remarcable. We searched a very long time for the perfect Vacation home for our 4 days trip to the Alpujjara. When this house came available we were beyond happy. The pictures already excite me although they don't really capture the house in the best way because when we came in the house, wow! First of all the street was very cosy. They reminded me of some of the Albaicin Streets. Narrow and full of character. When we entered the house Stefan showed us immediately hospitality so we felt very welcome in the house. The house is quite big! Stefan showed us around the house and started by showing us the big (!) Yard. Wow we are still speechless about how good the yard was set up. The barbecue, the dining areas, the jacuzzi pool, the lemon, avocado Trees. Every Was very complementairy to each other. We spent alot of our time in the yard and we don't regret it! The house has a very Cosy living room and the kitchen is equipped with every item you can imagine! It was very easy to have a dishwasher! The living area also has a very Cosy terrace where we spent our mornings and evenings watching at the Sunset with a beautiful view of the Sierra Nevada and the church from the village in front of it. Although the house was in the Middle of other houses it was very very quite and there we're hardly any neighbours seen! The sleeping area was on the 2nd floor. We had the master bedroom with it's own lovely terrace and beautiful view from your bed. The room had everthing you needed and in the evenings the room was very cool. Perfect! I have to say, i really loved the bathrooms. They were full of character and the sink was very beautiful. The house overall has some very beautiful decoration. We really loved the handmade carpet on the walls on stairs. Also the bathroom again was also equipped, it had a Nice dryer for your hair and what we also very much liked is that the house had a washing machine. We were in spain for a long time so it was very nice to wash our clothes in the house. The village was quite charming, we spent some Moments in the local café playing some pool and wandered to the hill. We also got to see Pampeneira as Stefan suggested us. It was less than a half hour away from us! (With the car) I would definetly recommend this house to anyone who is visiting the Alpujjara or the Andalusian region in general. You feel like you are in true Andalusia! Stefan and Naomi, the best of luck. We Will define
