The Rookery on the north shore of Flathead lake is one of the most peaceful and serene lakeshore retreats in the country. The home was designed by notable local architect Larry Pearson. Inspired by the oceanside estates of Cape Cod and Nantucket, the home is designed to reflect a quieter time when people spent their summers away from the hustle and bustle of city life in order to relax and recharge. The experience at The Rookery is completely unique compared to the other properties on Flathead Lake. The Northshore is the shallowest part of the lake and lends itself to quiet solitude because of the very sparse boat and wave runner traffic. The shoreline is ideal for kayaking, swimmimg, and stand up paddleboarding. Shallow draft boats can usually make their way into the dock at high pool but we suggest extreme care. The charming village of Bigfork is walking distance from The Rookery as are all the amenities associated with a lakeside town. Spend your evening attending The Bigfork Playhouse after dining in one of Bigfork's many restaurants or grill some oysters down at the boathouse while enjoying magnificent sunsets with your friends and family. The Rookery is unlike anywhere you have ever stayed

This was our second stay at this property, and it was just as exceptional as the first visit. The house is well-appointed, and it was spotless yet again. The location is terrific and a great spot to easily explore what the area has to offer, with Glacier National Park an easy drive north. And after a day out and about, it was wonderful relaxing and simply enjoying the spectacular views out across the lake. Hope to arrange another visit in the upcoming new year.

We booked this property for five days during a Canada/Montana trip in Sept/Oct 2022. We had a fantastic time. The property owner, Brett, replied quickly to the booking request, and he ensured we were all set as we were about to arrive, as well as checking in with us mid-stay. The house was outstanding and had a bit of everything - great view of Flathead Lake, wonderful floor plan, and the furnishings/decor/art all fit perfectly with the setting and the house design. Although our trip only consisted of only my son and me, I dare say a very large family or a group of several friends would have well more than ample room due to the many bedrooms, various indoor/outdoor sitting areas, and the second kitchen in the separate wing of the house. We made good use of the boathouse and the area on the lake shore as well, and spent many hours kayaking along the lake. The water is shallow well out from the shore (can see the bottom), so I wouldn't be skittish at all about letting a young child kayak along the shore. We were entertained by groups of deer that would graze in the yard each morning and late afternoon, plus it was a great spot for bird watching, considering the variety of birds and geese. In past years, we booked a different properly on Flathead Lake. It was sold and no longer available. We didn't think that house could be topped, but this property has quickly become our favorite.

As good as the photos are, the house and setting is even better in real life. Lots of rooms to spread out in for small group gatherings, and spacious big rooms for meals. The spices and olive oils in the kitchen engaged the chefs, the little girls loved the atmosphere go the bunk room. Washer & Dryer were fantastic! The boat hoouse was so cool and the SUP and kayaks added to the fun. Try it, you won't be sorry.

The Rookery is a dream! We didn’t want to leave. The fully-stocked house and grounds are gorgeous. There is charm in every room, inviting you to relax and enjoy. We had three generations gathered together and each one took full advantage of quiet reading areas, lake play, indoor and outdoor games, and breathtaking views. My kids explored the bay on kayaks and paddleboards, swam, played “king of the log,” and hunted for rocks along the coast. Nights are for bonfires and taking in the incredible sky views as the sun set. While there (early July), we had a front row seat observing a robin coach her babies out of the nest, watched a deer and her fawn have breakfast every morning, and listened to numerous bird varieties sing out in the grasslands. You can easily walk to downtown Bigfork for coffee, lunch, or shopping. If you are a runner, there is a great four-mile loop through the neighboring golf course. Brett, the owner, is attentive and excited for you to have a great time; Shane, the caretaker, was available and super nice to work with. You will LOVE this place.
