The property was beautiful and the views were amazing. We arrived at sunset so got to enjoy that all the way up the mountain. It seems to be one of the uppermost homes on the mountain. The views from thie living area and loft area were spectacular. The steam room is also great! We used it several times. Sleeping downstairs is a little loud due to the furnace and water heater being in a rather open area downstairs.
The rental is great! Was a bit of a drive however overall our stay was quite nice.
We arrived to a beautiful cabin high atop a mountain. The cabin was all closed up & extremely hot. We have stayed in many, many cabins in the area from Jun-Aug and though it is typical for them not to have air conditioning- the other hosts have had windows open & fans turned on so that it is not unbearable. This was not the case here. The 1st night was horrible, no one could sleep because of the stiffling heat & lack of fans. The next night was not as bad because we had windows open all day & it helped but it was still uncomfortably hot. Luckily this place has a huge deck that we spent all of our time on until it was time to go to bed. One creepy thing about the home: there is 1 camera & it faces the deck where I'm sure all guests spend most of their time. I've seen ring door bells & cameras that face outward toward the property but this camera is definitely there to watch it's guests on the deck & that is definitely creepy. The kitchen is well stocked, & so were the bathrooms. Everything was clean & in good shape. Although you are charged a cleaning fee- be prepared to wash towels & all dishes must be cleaned as well. If you are in the area to use Vallecito lake- please be aware it is 30 minutes away. The listing says 10 minutes. I messaged before making my reservation & I was also told 10 min, but it is 30 min drive to the marina.
This is the very first time my kids, their spouses, grandson, and doggies were able to get away from all of our home bases and just relax. Lots of pics taken and memories made. The deer! The birdsong! The stars! The view!! The quiet! We absolutely loved it and the vote is unanimous-we will be back here to this home next year. Thanks for letting us use your beautiful home! Kathy D
June in Colorado is great. Cool temps. Gorgeous green scenery. Rolling hills and majestic mountain peaks seemingly in every direction. A short drive to Durango for shopping and dining. Bayfield is a convenient hub for longer day trips to Silverton and Ouray too. Don’t pass up visiting Honeyville for all the honey products you could wish for. This home we stayed at for our Colorado trip had pretty much everything we needed. Lots of thick towels for hot showers. Good water flow. A great kitchen for putting together meals. Gas stove/oven worked well. Nice furnishings. Spacious deck and high end deck furnishings and umbrellas. A propane grill for those burgers and comfy beds ( though the main level queen could stand a mattress topper as it was a little stiff for our taste.) Oh, and a tea kettle that “sings” when it’s hot! Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Our doggos loved the daily hikes. We spotted deer and chipmunks along the way. In Bayfield itself, there is a grocery store that will have pretty much everything you need. There’s a very good pizza joint in the same parking lot. There’s a coffee truck in one corner ( didn’t see it until we were leaving.) and back on the 501 slightly behind the shopping center is a nice little place called Baked for breakfast. Very tasty Eggwich sandwiches but also cinnamon rolls and danish and the like. So if you haven’t visited Bayfield, plan your visit today!
The house itself was very nice and had a great view in peaceful neighborhood. There were 100 flies on the ceiling of the loft bedroom when we arrived and for the first night of our stay. The booster pump for the domestic water system and the laundry/mechanical room did not have a door so when either of the 2 were running it was very noisy downstairs leaving it noisy for the people in the downstairs bedroom. The address was located in an inconspicuous location leaving it very difficult to find the house in the dark. The drive to Durango was 45 to 50 minutes unlike the stated 20 minute drive. We also noticed that there was a radiation Radon venting system that was installed which made it a little concerning about staying there. After reading up on that I found that this is a common occurrence throughout the Rocky Mountains but still feel it should be noted for outsiders.
