Stayed Aug 27, 2020Everything was perfect during our stay at The Rusty Elk Retreat. We could not have asked for a better cabin rental! We were very pleased! The owner was quick to respond to any questions I had and the cabin was well equipped and very clean. The beds were outstanding and so comfortable! This cabin has everything possible to keep the kids happy and our 2 1/2 yr. old grandchild had a blast as well. We will definately rent this cabin again (as long as the owner feels we left it in suitable condition, as I tried very hard too!) should we get the opportunity to return to Maggie Valley for a future vacation. (I am saddened I did not get to see Elk but I do think I heard some early one morning...BUT of course that is a part of nature....& with kids, I assume we were not quiet enough for them to venture onto these premises!)

Stayed Jan 17, 2020It was awesome. Perfect for our group of 10. Kids stayed downstairs and adults up. Snowed last day and got a little tricky getting down drive.

Stayed Mar 18, 2019The cabin was very updated. Each bedroom having it's own bathroom was an excellent amenity. Everyone enjoyed the pool table, air hockey table, and hot tub. The owner was very helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay there again.

Stayed Feb 8, 2025The Rusty Elk was absolutely perfect for what we needed. Eight minutes from Cataloochee ski area and 10 minutes from some local restaurants and stores. The hot tub felt great after a cold day on the mountain and our kids also enjoyed the pool table and air hockey. At first I was disappointed it didn’t have arcade games like some of the other houses, but this strategic move allowed us to have more unplugged family time. The check in process was easy, the host responded quickly to questions, the furniture was nice and new and the house was clean. We recommend!

Stayed Feb 15, 2024The Rusty Elk was nice enough for our long weekend. However, it could really use some TLC. It was clean, but it needed some better upkeep. The location was nice - be aware the roads and driveway leading up to it are pretty steep, but they were manageable.

Stayed Oct 6, 2023We really enjoyed our stay. It was very peaceful, clean, and comfortable. We used the firepit every night and the hot tub multiple times. The house was good size. It was just 3 of us, but had room for more if needed. Especially with family of kids. We'll definitely book here again if we come back to the area.
