Kennebunk, Maine
KPort Concierge is honored to share with you the opportunity to vacation in the iconic Play House on Parsons Beach. Now enjoyed by descendants of the Parsons family and fortunate guests, the home has an incredible story and also an extraordinary location that is not to be missed. The Play House is a fully equipped 3,000 square foot home on Parsons Beach, a private, gently sloping sandy beach just 40 yards from the front door.
Built in 1909, the Play House has seen generations of Parsons family members in addition to their honored guests, including Cole Porter, who happened to be a fellow glee club member and roommate of Humphrey Parsons at Yale University. Rightfully named the Play House with a stage in the living room, a game of charades or a small family production seems a bit more spectacular knowing those who previously performed on that very stage. The spacious living room also features a fireplace, a long dining table, and cable TV. With luscious green grass and the ocean out front, this is the perfect place to begin or end your day.
Another favorite hangout spot is the large, well-equipped kitchen. Lounge on comfy chairs, bar stools, and a kitchen table or step out to the deck. Additionally, there are plenty of games in the game closet for you to enjoy during your stay.
Upstairs, three large bedrooms overlook the front lawn and ocean, and two smaller bedrooms overlook the private rear yard. On the first floor, two bedrooms feature sliding doors that step out to a deck overlooking the lawn and ocean and a bunk room looks over the private back yard. Please note, the first floor bedrooms are not available June 8-17, August 3-10, 2024.*
While the interior of the home offers history, comfort, and spaciousness, the eye catching feature of the home is the sparking ocean just steps away. Walk right out the front door onto a grass terrace surrounded by flower gardens and enjoy a yard game or cup of coffee. Then, head to the private, sandy beach just a short stroll across the lawn. Spend your day sitting on the beach, surfing, fishing, and taking in the beauty of Maine. Bring kayaks and boards to ride the waves, and there is no need to lug them back to your car; you can leave them on the beach deck for the next day's fun.
The outside of the house offers a front yard with a flower garden surrounded lawn sitting area and, further down the lawn, a deck overlooking the beach and ocean. The back of the house offers a deck sitting area with a grill and a private outdoor shower.
All towels, sheets, beach chairs, and umbrellas are provided so that you can travel light.
Dock Square, Kennebunkport is only 3 miles away, with many restaurants, boat rides, shopping, museums, and weekly activities. Wells restaurants are even closer, as well as Big Daddy’s, the best ice cream in Maine!
Please note, the Play House is a large 3,000 square foot home that is connected to a separate 2,500 square foot home. There is a locked separation and complete privacy between the two units that only share one wall.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this charming house. Large, well supplied, space for everyone. The location on that beautiful beach cannot be beat. We are grateful to the owner for sharing this treasure with us. Highly recommend.
The Ultimate top of the line private beach home in woods stay with hosts supplying everything but food. Superb furnishings! Description & reviews very accurate. Spacious accommodations in their historic family home by hosts who are nearby but never intrude. Many thanks!
Great location and wonderful hosts!
The shingle-clad Colonial style house is on a private lane set well back from a private beach on an expansive, beautifully landscaped lawn with several outdoor seating areas.
The house was spacious and very well-equipped. The flower gardens are even more beautiful in person than in the photos. We really appreciated the gathering spaces, especially the comfortable sitting area near the kitchen and the very large dining room table. The ocean breeze kept us cool and the soothing sound of the waves at night made for peaceful, deep and restful sleep.
My family stayed here with another family that we’ve been friends with for many, many years. We both have two children in the 3-6 year old range. When we booked the trip my only concern was the ocean and the fact that Maine tends to be rough water. Our children are still learning to swim so we didn’t know how that would work out. More on that later. Aside from that, the pictures made it look like a very special place, one that we knew would be well-suited for the 8 of us. The thing is there are just certain places that you must see in person to really understand how special they are, and this is one of them. I cannot emphasize enough just how special this property is. The lawn was well-cared for. The garden out back was beautifully appointed with mature flowers and shrubs. There were views of the ocean from almost every single room. Even if you couldn’t see it directly, you still heard that intoxicating sound of the waves crashing down on the beach. The house itself was older, but I have to imagine that is intentional. The furniture, pictures, even the bathroom hardware were all from a different time. A time when places like this were few and far between. The opportunity to stay in a home like this was essentially reserved for family and friends only. We didn’t spend much time inside, though our children loved entertaining us with their mini-shows on the built-in stage, which was apparently added to the house for that very purpose so many years ago. One thing that made us nervous was the lack of air conditioning (something all of us seemed to have overlooked when booking… so glad we did though!). Especially since it was one of the hotter weeks of the summer. However, the moment the sun went down the temp dropped and the perpetual ocean wind that passed right through the house made it the most pleasant environment to sleep in. I also mentioned being concerned about the ocean. The waves were rough at times but the depth was low so far out we knew the kids were safe. Overall, the trip was exactly what each of us needed, and that is the best way I can describe the property. If you want to relax, you can relax. If you want to swim, you can swim. If you want to drive around to the surrounding towns, you won’t run out of things to do. If you want to take strolls on the beach at low tide, then go out and stroll. It was the type of place where everyone’s ideal vacation could be fulfilled, and that is such a rare thing to find these days!!!
We loved the location, house and beach! The owners were helpful and gracious. If you are interested in the history of the Maine coast and its conservation land, it is a must see.
The home is located at the end of a long private road on a private beach. It has it's own stage (with curtain) as part of the main living room area. It's an old home with excellent updated features. We had two small families and fit well. We like to surf and boogie board, so the convenience of being right on the beach was perfect. We were worried about having only one indoor shower for two families, but it was never a problem - as the outdoor shower was great after the beach. We had great meals at Bandaloop and Allisons and cooked a few meals. Outdoor seating area buy the beach was great. Thanks.
Wonderful, well kept home. Interesting history to the house and parsons beach. Beth was very easy to get in contact with. She was very warm and welcoming. Highly recommend for a quiet Maine beach getaway.
Amazing house, property, and private beach. The house had plenty of room for all 3 generations of our family and the beach was absolutely stunning with soft sand, great waves, and warm water (for Maine). The location cannot be beat! The owners were very responsive before and during our stay, they provided information about the area and house (which was appreciated). It was nice reading about the history of the Parsons family and home. We cannot wait to come back!
