Great for fishing, beach combing, privacy, and grilling. Cleanliness is on par for the area. Area is still very natural with few homes near by. Which we love. Water is typically murky in this area. Fishing was excellent, paddle boarding, kayaking were great as well. Internet is slow, and we love that. Only real complaint was picking up keys in Crawfordsville, which was a 1 hour round trip, and the another hour to return. The real estate co. had no posted address or signage on the road, so very difficult to find, as it is a house. Need electronic lock or lock box. Otherwise great family vacation.
We enjoyed the stay. I dont know if all of the coast has critter issues, but we were greeted by a couple roaches (most dead, a couple alive), a swarm of honey bees, and 2 cute little baby bats. I chalk it up to the area being wild and remote and wet. Both staircases felt a little unsteady. They could use some work. Also the master bed is probably ready to replace. But the living quarters were great, the location was awesome, and the view from the deck is fantastic. Its so remote we could just let our puppies run and frolic on the beach and that made the trip for us!
We had a wonderful time, peaceful and relaxing.
While we enjoyed our vacation in the Big Bend area of Florida, the rental wasn't worth what we paid. We will not be going back to that area or that realtor again. For what we paid in rent and fees, I would have expected the house to be in better shape when we arrived. The floors were dirty. It was clear they have not been really cleaned in some time. Dishes and cookware were put up dirty. Bedding was stained. Water dripped constantly in the master bathroom tub and at the outdoor shower. Master bath sink was very slow to drain. Also, we like to lower the temperature to around 70 degrees at night, but, according to the realtor, the owner has set the minimum temperature on the thermostat to 72 degrees. That's a picky complaint. But, it made us less comfortable at night, and for what we paid I feel like we should have been able to lower the temperature a little at night. We called the first business day of our trip to let the realtor know about the dirty floors, the slow draining sink, and ask for consideration in lowering the thermostat. Also, we asked why a group of five adults we were only given one door key. The realtor was going to check on those things and get back with us. However, we didn't hear from them again until today when they finally responded to our email confirming we dropped off the key three days ago (there was no one in the office at 9:30 AM on our check out date). An issue that is more serious to me than those listed above is that the stairs on both the front and back of the house (approximately 20' of stairs) were in very bad condition. In some places they were leaning. They were VERY shaky. They have 2x4 blocks nailed to the stairs and wedged against concrete pillars (not fastened to the concrete) in what looks like an attempt to minimize the shakiness. I think I could have pushed the rails off of the stairs or the balcony with one hand. The house has the potential to be a very nice rental, but needs some serious attention. The area around Bald Point State Park was beautiful. We expected the shore to be more bay-like because of where we were. We did not expect crab pots just offshore all along the coast in front of the house. Not our favorite vacation rental and much more expensive than it was worth.
