Nothomb Hill is a 1,200 square-foot home is in a peaceful rural area off the beaten path -- a place to reconnect with friends, family, and nature. The great room is super comfortable and the heart of the house. You'll love the ample natural light and spectacular views from the grand wall of windows, perched high above the river. Vaulted, wood-lined ceilings with exposed beams adds to the airiness and cabin-like feel. In the colder months, make a fire in the wood stove (main heat source) and enjoy the warm glow that washes over the space.
The kitchen is fully outfitted and opens to the dining area and the great room, so you're always connected to what's going on. Enjoy your meals around a century-old, English farm table that seats eight comfortably. Views abound from all directions, so everyone will be happy.
All three bedrooms are cozy in size with either a view of the river or up the hillside. The master has a closet and a great view of the river with a big slider door to let in the fresh air and the sounds of the river below.
The one bathroom has a deep, modern soaking tub with a handheld shower sprayer. The toilet with a bidet is next to the tub and separated by a pocket door so people can use the sink, while others use the toilet/bath at the same time.
Once outside, you'll have multiple areas to enjoy -- all offering spectacular views up and down the river canyon. The main deck just outside the dining area offers expansive views, a couple chairs and a BBQ. Beyond the house is the main outdoor living space, which includes an off-grid, eco-friendly, wood-fired hot tub, as well as a new pavilion with Adirondack chairs, perfect for enjoying an outdoor fire, (not during burn ban season), while you star-gaze.
For a little more action, just below the house, there is a slack line for the kids as well as a great tree swing. Or take an exhilarating hike up the private road to see spring wildflowers and experience some pretty killer views.
Nothomb Hill is in a rural country setting without streetlights, which makes stargazing amazing! Enjoy getting off the grid in this peaceful, private setting.
Please keep in mind that this is a rural setting. There are bugs and wildlife as well as uneven surfaces, including the gravel road up to the house, hammock, tree swing, and slackline down below.
Eco-friendly hot tub is a unique experience, as its wood fired. This requires filling it up with water and getting a fire going to heat up the water. Give yourself time and enjoy the process, which takes approximately three hours.
Here's what to expect during Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter seasons:
• Spring: Warming temps, loads of wildflowers, and green as far as the eye can see. It's the perfect time of the year to explore all the hiking the area has to offer.
• Summer: Dry, hot, and light out until 9 pm. This is prime river time! An AC window unit keeps the house cool along with Dyson fans in each room. Fill the hot tub with cold water and just chill out on a summer day.
• Autumn: Crisp, cooler temps, trees showing their beautiful fall colors with a little rain. We absolutely LOVE this time of year. Warm up the wood-fired hot tub, get the fire pit going, and enjoy the stars above.
• Winter: Klickitat, Washington can get a decent amount of snow a few days out of the year. Fire up the wood stove (main heat source), play a board game, or just get cozy and read a book with a warm drink. Firewood is provided along with space heaters and Pendleton blankets. Important wintertime notes:
- Road conditions can be tricky when it snows, especially the gravel road up to the house, which is about 1/3 of a mile past the gate.
- All-wheel drive vehicles are strongly recommended.
- Plan to arrive well before it gets dark, check Highway 142 road conditions, and bring chains just in case.
- Rural areas are susceptible to infrequent power outages due to winter storms. Outages may last up to 8 hours depending on the severity of the problem. Flashlights and candles are provided.
We came out to this property on a family trip and it didn’t disappoint. The views are spectacular!
With the exception of the video cameras all over the place watching our every move, it was a fantastic stay. It was definitely a little uncomfortable at times knowing there were cameras everywhere.
Spent a couple nights here with our children, and quite frankly I don't think any of us were ready to leave. If you're looking for a place to kick back and unplug this is it. We were really surprised about how well this home is stocked from things needed in the kitchen to kids toys. Literally all you need to bring is your food and clothes. This home is beautiful along with the views, and very secluded only people we have seen are passing on the highway about 100 ft below. We would love to thank the property owners and management for doing such a great job with this place definitely 5+ stars, We absolutely will be booking here again.
Quiet cabin with stunning views across the river valley. Very well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds in each of the three bedrooms, and a lovely covered outdoor gazebo / sitting area next to the hot tub.
Lovely ranch home. Spectacular scenery, with occasional winds. We loved it all and would go back. Comfortable accommodations. Amenities for family with wide range of ages, plus dog. Everything as described. Easy in and out. Arrived and host responsive to inquiries when booking. Thank you all.
The house was awesome. The key pad to the gate had a different code that was on the directions. There is no cell service there so it was a challenge getting the right code. Thank you!
Beautiful view.
It was as advertised, we enjoyed our stay, will probably want to stay there again - people who like the night sky will understand when we say the dark sky was great. Great exercise and scenic beauty hike up the hills behind the house. Daytime temp was in upper 80s, but we stayed comfortable without using the air conditioning because of the nice breeze. Cool nights were great sleeping with the river sound to lull is off. Note: this really isn't a VRBO property - there is a second management agency that has to be navigated and dealt with – we had no contact with the actual owners.
The setting is great, and the kitchen is particularly nice. We happened to be there during a rare heat wave in the summer. Since there are no shades on the windows, the heat was intense in the afternoons, and the window air conditioner did little to compensate. It was impossible to sit anywhere in the living room. Also, I don’t think the large windows have ever been washed. Also the very generous dining table only has little dinette chairs, meaning one is eating with their chin nearly on the table. The shower is a hand-held, mounted to a deep tub, with no hook to hang it up high for a traditional shower. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful, quiet location with all the necessities provided, and we enjoyed our stay.
This location is fantastic if you are looking for spectacular scenery and access to fun outdoor activities in the gorge and want to be away from the crowds in Hood River. Float or fish the Klick, windsurf at Doug's, Kite at the spit in Lyle, or just relax in a secluded, beautiful spot, this is a great choice. Don't bring your sports car, the access road is steep gravel, but the view is worth it!
