Greensboro, Vermont
Many writers including Wallace Stegner have extolled the beauty of Caspian Lake, a hidden gem in Vermont, which is actively protected and preserved by its local community. Your friends won't have heard of it (and please help keep the secret!) and you can truly unplug in this perfect corner of the Northeast Kingdom.
The 1820s cottage has been lovingly restored and sits steps from the famed lake, and just down the road from miles of groomed cross-country ski trails via the Highland Lodge and Craftsbury Outdoor Center (where you can rent and enjoy a hot cocoa). Downhill skiing at Stowe or Burke is also nearby. In the summer, amazing swimming, boating and bike rentals are steps away. Of course you must visit the world-famous Hill Farmstead Brewery as well.
Modern amenities including a washer/dryer, dishwasher, nest thermostat and high-speed internet. We can allow a maximum of six guests due to the septic system.
Beautifully restored, great property owner, fantastic location
We had a lovely stay in this Vermont house. Three living rooms, but we hung out mainly in one with a large coffee table for marathon board games. The galley kitchen had what we needed to cook great meals,. The kitchen sink looks out on to the rushing brook in the backyard. Great bedding, perfect for cold northern nights. Short walk to both Caspian Lake and a charming general store stocked with Vermont-made goods, fresh produce and meat. We enjoyed skiing at Craftsbury ski touring center (20 min drive), Jay Peak (1 hour), and Burke (50 minutes). Hope to return!
