Canton, North Carolina
If you're looking for a mountain/lake getaway, our peaceful retreat has something for everybody: outdoor adventure and fishing, quaint mountain towns to explore, and R & R in a mountainn setting. Days spent in our home are guaranteed to take you back to a simpler time and rejuvenate your spirit.
Our house overlooks spectacular Lake Logan. It is on North Carolina 215, a National Forest Service Heritage Scenic Byway which climbs alongside a beautiful stretch of the upper West Fork of the Pigeon River towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake Logan is a crystal clear mountain gem which lies in a pristine valley. Our secluded house is currently only one of four buildings on our side of the lake and sits on a 40 acre tract subdivided into 4 lots and surrounded by forest service land. We share our road and dock with three neighbors, only one of whom lives in Waynesville. We are also neighbors with the 300 acre Lake Logan Episcopal Center. Most of its campus is just up the road from us. Part of their property includes 5 cabins across the lake from us which provide reassurance that we're not totally isolated. Once an exclusive retreat for Champion Paper Company executives, Lake Logan, a 90 acre lake, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes on the East coast and is completely surrounded by forest service land. Motorized boats are prohibited. So come soak up the serenity of God’s glorious gifts in this mountain sanctuary. Watch the sun set from the dock on Lake Logan after a day of swimming, fishing and boating. The lake offers excellent fishing for trophy trout and bass, bluegill, crappie and perch. Most of the time our guests have it all to themselves. You can relax on our covered porch, in the hot tub, or on the oversized sofa in the living room and enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book free from distractions. Children will enjoy swimming from the dock and paddling around in one of several boats we own. We've enjoyed spotting wildlife from the cabin and on the lake. Three pairs of bald eagles have taken up residence at the lake. We've seen deer, wild turkeys, otter, beaver, and an occasional bear. The lake is also home to geese, ducks, kingfishers, and heron.
The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sunburst swimming hole and a multitude of waterfalls and hiking trails are right next door. We're minutes from the highest points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extensive shopping & dining are only 15 minutes away in downtown Waynesville. The historic Biltmore House and eclectic Asheville are only 30 minutes away. Perfect for a romantic getaway, celebration of a special day, or a family vacation.
We have paid particular attention to craftsmanship and details inside and out. Hardwood floors throughout, one wood burning and two gas fireplaces, covered porch with hot tub and grill, and large firepit with seating area close to the deck. The house has an open floor plan with large kitchen, living room, and dining room, three bedrooms and three and a half baths. The master bedroom on the first floor has a king-size bed and private master bath. The porch and hot tub can be accessed from the master bedroom. The second and third bedrooms are downstairs and each has an attached bathroom. Downstairs also includes a living area and outside entrance with patio.
The large living area is a combination kitchen/dining/living room and has great views of the wooded areas surrounding the home and the lake. The living room is accented with a stone fireplace and comfortable sofa and chairs. It also includes a large, flat screen tv/DVD/blue ray/stereo system. Sliding glass doors open onto porch that overlooks the lake. From there you can view activity on the lake or grill your favorite foods.
More details
We spent a great long weekend luxuriating and hanging out in this woodland retreat. It was clean, well-kept, and beautifully styled. The kitchen was fully outfitted for family dinners, and the living spaces were well furnished for socializing. We had a wonderful time.
In addition to spending time fishing on the lake, we especially enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the wild rabbits in the garden and numerous birds and butterflies the beautiful flowers attracted.
My friends and I really enjoyed our trip to the lake house. It was gorgeous and the attention to detail was amazing. Our hosts were very friendly. The pictures don't do justice for just how beautiful Lake Logan is. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a trip with the family or with friends to get away for the week. The house is a split-level and the downstairs is a perfect area for smaller children to hang out while parents enjoy the hot tub on the porch. The walk to the lake is very short and worth it. There is space to set up your hammock in the shade and enjoy the view. We enjoyed watching the bald eagles hunt for fish while we were out on our float.
House is located in a great location close to Lake Logan. House is also very spacious, has some nice antique furniture pieces, and is a very relaxing setting. Overall great experience, but a few things could be improved upon. Owner should have listed that Master Bedroom King was a water bed. Home is full of owner’s personal belongings leaving little to no room in closets, drawers, and pantry (master closet had an unpleasant odor). Also, home phone rang rather often with callers trying to contact owners. Despite those few items, thoroughly enjoyed our stay and do recommend.
Property was clean and well organized. The beds were comfortable and rooms laid out so we were not on top of each other. Location was perfect for our jaunt down the parkway to our favorite locations and the lake was beautiful. We had a great time with our adult children! Thank you Dan and Leslie!
Would stay again
This is our 3rd year at this location. It is very relaxing and the fishing is wonderful
We’ve stayed everywhere in the world and we must say these guys have the best mountain home we’ve ever stayed at in NC. If you’re looking for a quiet place to sit and sip your coffee, enjoy time on the pristine Lake Logan or relax the evening away by a small fire then this is it. The rooms are large and bathrooms are perfectly appointed. Quiet, secluded, easy to get to, well appointed- it’s got it all.
We loved this property! It was private and secluded...perfect for a quiet getaway. Lake Logan is beautiful! The only thing is I wish the cabin was right on the water. In the middle of summer, with all the trees in full bloom, you can’t see the water from the cabin. The short walk to Lake Logan is quick and totally worth. The back porch was our favorite place to eat and relax. It is close enough to Waynesville and Asheville to go for the day and retreat back to the cabin at night. The cabin was clean and the beds were comfortable. Enjoy your stay!
The house was fantastic. We loved the use of the boat and dock. The kids also loved roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. The best part was the porch bed swing! Thank you for sharing your home. We had a wonderful getaway for spring break.
