Galeton, Pennsylvania
Your mountain chalet is located on 3.5 acres of serene land, perched atop Yochum Hill, only 10 minutes from Cherry Springs State Park. The chalet is the perfect setting for a secluded couple getaway, family vacation with up to 9 guests, or a launch pad for a week of outdoor adventures. Thrill seekers can explore hundreds of miles of ATV and snowmobile trails directly from the property, or take a short drive to Lyman Lake, Pa Lumber Museum or the Pa Grand Grand Canyon.
THE SPACE
Your chalet is tucked into the forest atop Yockum Hill and includes 3.5 acre acres of land to explore. This includes an acre of grassy hillside for stargazing, cooking s’mores or sledding in the winter. The remainder of the property is woodland. From the chalet you may ride your ATV on all roads from Memorial Day until Labor Day, and snowmobile during the winter. There's even an attached garage with overhead doors on each end so you can drive your ATV or snowmobile in one side and pull out the other.
There is a gravel parking lot spacious enough for 6+ vehicles or trailers. The attached garage is accessible to you during your stay.
Entering from the side of the home, you will find the laundry area, and a space for coats and shoes. Next you’ll pass through the kitchen which has been fully stocked with the cookware you’ll want to keep your fellow guests well fed.
As you explore the kitchen, your attention will be drawn to the great room by the floor to ceiling stone fireplace and the majestic mountain views pouring through the ten large windows. The pellet stove is easily operated and provides a wonderful radiant heat sufficient to warm the entire first and second floor. There is no AC in the home, but there are two large ceiling fans in the great room, and three oscillating fans provided.
In the great room you’ll find an open floor plan that includes a dining table with seating for 10, a sitting room surrounding the fireplace, and an entertainment space with a 55” smart TV for streaming all your favorite shows and movies.
All of the bedrooms are located on the back half of the home where the shade of the forest will help keep you cool on those warm summer days. There is a large bedroom on the first floor with a queen bed, a large built in shelving unit for clothing and a closet. The second floor has another large bedroom with a queen bed and a third bedroom with a bunk bed setup. The bunk bed includes a full size lower bed and a single lofted bed. In the basement there is a full size mattress inside a pullout couch.
In the basement you’ll find a pool table, vintage 60’s Rockola Jukebox which plays 45s, and another seating area with a pullout couch. There’s another pellet stove to keep you comfortable and two more sliding doors giving you access to the lower deck.
GUEST ACCESS
In general the house and property are yours to enjoy. Exceptions include: the detached garage, 2nd floor owners closet in hallway, and the storage rooms in the basement.
NOTES
There is no AC, you are the dishwasher and 4x4 or AWD are strongly encouraged during ice or snow. The home is remote and the driveway is steep.
Our weekend stay was certainly wet from the coastal storm but warm from the fireplace and exceptionally comfortable from the furnishings. The view is beautiful in any weather. We hope to return soon.
Everything was exactly as shown. The hosts were very responsive (even to questions ahead of the stay). The views from the deck were amazing, although we didn't think to check the moon cycle so we didn't see many stars. The pellet stoves made the whole house seem cozy, and the pool table was fun! I would definitely recommend this house to anyone seeking a peaceful getaway from the bustle.
Great place . All the amenities of home. Fun place to stay. Hosts responded to all of our question very quickly.
This was our first trip to Potter County to view the Dark Skies, and we were amazed by the scenery, location, but most importantly, the property. We stayed with our adult children and my sister and her partner, and everyone said that the house was one of the most thoughtfully appointed vacation rental. We cooked all our meals at the house and enjoyed being together with the night skies as our main entertainment. Everything was fairly easy to find, and we appreciated the clear directions to operate the pellet stove. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the house to anyone staying in the area.
Beautiful cabin in a gorgeous setting that did not disappoint. Quiet and relatively private, we really enjoyed our stay. Cabin was as advertised, clean, spacious and well supplied with the kitchen essentials. We loved it!
The view from the house was amazing!!...and the house itself was perfect. It had everything we needed. Do make sure you meal prep and bring most of what you need with you. The local shop n save has basics. My only disappointment was the light pollution from the neighbors' lights, but everything else was perfect so a small trade off.
Property was everything you could hope for. Big enough to accommodate the listed max guests and a beautiful view for the sunrise. Would highly recommend to anyone
Great property, great location, and great communication. Property was great for stargazing and only 8 minutes away from Cherry Springs. Our family enjoyed the time there, the three teenagers especially enjoying the outdoors and the pool table. Someplace we would definitely stay again.
Our stay here was amazing, the views are literally breathtaking and the silence of being secluded from the outside world is indescribable!
House was perfect for the three families. Location is great and the property had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.
We had a great time staying here, the location was great, we came to visit the park (Cherry Springs) which is only a few min away. There is also a great view (stars/planets) from the deck. Host was great and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. Would definitely book again.
The home was extremely clean and full of amenities. We enjoyed the fall foliage, local trails and stargazing from the front yard. The pool table and jukebox were a bonus, excellent communication with the host. We highly recommend the property!
We had a marvelous stay even though a bit early for fall folliage. This reservation was made with a need for peace and serenity and it was spot on! Very clean and Ben was very easy to work with. We had the unexpected pleasure of seeing FIVE different rainbows during our stay...an unexpected treat! We were very close to the stargazing park which was magnificent! A total joy to spend time in God's country at the Chalet!!
The property was clean, well taken care of and the owners provided quick response to questions. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in the area.
Before I give any personal opinion, here's a cheat sheet for your trip: - The rental's address currently does not display on Apple Maps. If you are only able to use Apple Maps, message the owner before the trip - The owner recommends AWD in the listing, and this is definitely necessary regardless of season. The gravel driveway is well-maintained, but was difficult to get up when our SUV was in 2WD. - There is a really neat fire pit on site which greatly reduces smoke. But, if you aren't using the logs the host provides, make sure you bring small ones, no larger than what you'd buy outside of a grocery store. This isn't your typical rural fire pit. - Likewise, this is one of the less isolated properties we stayed at. There are some neighbors, so we were mindful of how much noise we made out at the fire pit past 9 PM. If you keep noise at a conversational level like we did, you should not have any trouble. - AT&T has sporadic service in the driveway. A Verizon user on our trip did not experience any issues. Every part of the trip from start to finish was amazing! It has an ideal location; within 45 minutes of the PA Grand Canyon, 15 minutes of Galeton (smaller town), and 30 minutes of Coudersport (less small town). The property was very clean when we arrived at check-in time, and well-stocked. The owner was responsive prior to check-in, and during check-in troubleshooting the jukebox. One of the permanent residents even came up to drop something off which the owner needed left at the property, and was very nice. The house and its porch face east, so you'll be able to catch the sunrise every morning if you're inclined to get up early. The sky view is partially obscured by trees behind the house. But that's about my only complaint!
This was the easiest vacation I’ve been on to date, which was largely due to the seamless and informative communication with the host. The stars were absolutely brilliant, the mountain air is more refreshing than words can describe, and the location and view was exquisite. We traveled with our 5 year olds and we had plenty of outside adventures and exploring that they kept up with no problem. I would change not one single thing about our trip. It was perfect. Some tips for travelers: meal plan and pack your own food, bring bug spray and hiking boots to make outside excursions more enjoyable, and be advised that the mountains can get pretty chilly at night! Enjoy!!! I hope to come back some day soon!
