Stayed Apr 7, 2026This was a gem of a place. The property was gorgeous, the accommodations were comfortable and clean and the host, Ryan, was really great. We loved chatting with him and getting a tour of the place and his pups, Bourbon and Cider were soooo sweet. Our kids especially loved feeding Walter and visiting the chickens. Highly recommend staying here!

Stayed Apr 6, 2026What an amazing stay. Ryan was so friendly and welcoming, and it was clear from the start how knowledgeable and thoughtful he is. He has two awesome dogs, Bourbon and Cider -- my teens absolutely fell in love with them!! Let's not forget about the Tortoise 3 Ryan's home is beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly situated with an incredible view of San Luis Obispo — the kind of view you don’t forget. Our only regret is staying one night. Do yourself a favor and book at least two!! We loved every minute and would absolutely stay again. Ryan (aka buddy, lol), thank you so much for an incredible stay full of laughs and memories. I hope our paths cross again someday!

Stayed Mar 24, 2026We already miss being at this property! The location is otherworldly. The house is perfect- our family of 4, plus a pup, was so cozy in the well-designed space (and the beds are all crazy comfortable). We liked walking the property, petting Walter, saying hi to the chickens, and cooking dinner in the kitchen with a big window overlooking Morro Bay. The house is a short drive from anything you could want or need, plenty of different coastal and mountain spots, iconic destinations. Ryan is a wonderful person, great host, and our family really enjoyed meeting him. He was welcoming, helpful, and made us feel like old friends. We love Bourbon and Cider!

They are the sweetest dogs you will ever meet! From one Ryan to another, thank you for sharing your slice of heaven. It's a forever memory for sure, thank you!

Stayed Mar 20, 2026Immensely relaxing and enchanting. The views were spectacular. It reminded us of Europes hills. Very lush and green. We could see the volcano mountains and the ocean once the fog left. The place was very spacious. The living area was set up like a studio with bed, living and dining in one large room, kitchen separate, with two additional rooms upstairs. There is no AC but wasn’t need in the studio area once we opened windows. There were chickens and Walter the turtle. The drive up was about 20 minutes from SLO and well worth it. We visited the SLO Mission ate at Feral, drove to Morro Bay for whale watching, ate at Avila Beach Mersea’s, sat out on the rentals shared balcony patio and watched stars, went to see Durand Jones at Madonna Inn Expo. The place is attached to another rental and to the owner, but lots of privacy. The owner Ryan and his fur babes Bourbon and Cider were kind and thoughtful hosts.

Stayed Jan 21, 2026This is an epic scenic view. You get Los Osos, Morro Rock and the Stacks in the background of rolling coastal hills. I can see why it’s called Irish Hills with those views. We are very familiar with Morro area but because of the view we were drawn to go see all of it. We went to beaches on the way to Montana de Oro, experienced Baywood and stopped for a cocktail at Dorn’s.Another great opportunity to go wine tasting at Kelsey’s winery. We found out that you can easily travel there without getting on busy roads. Prefumo to See Canyon road is a short 20 minute drive with amazing foliage and more epic views.Everything at Irish Hill House was clean and roomy. They have beautiful decor and comfortable beds.Ryan is super nice and helpful. The entire welcoming staff (Ryan, Bourbon, Cider and Walter) made use right at home. We will be back.

We could see Morro Bay on one side and SLO on the other. The location was a perfect distance from local hikes (Avila Ridge & Mt Madonna) and downtown SLO where we went to the local farmers market and had dinner out one of the nights. But as much as possible we stayed on the property to enjoy the beautiful views and comfortable accommodations. A return visit is definitely on our mind.

We also brought one more car than we anticipated but the host was able to accommodate, which was great! We were able to see a bit of the scenery despite the rain, but even the cloud bank was spectacular. There was ample space inside and was just ultimately so cozy! Our wonderful host, Ryan, made us feel right at home by introducing us to his very friendly and loving golden retrievers, Bourbon and Cider, his tortoise, Walter, and chickens on the property. Our kids had a great time playing upstairs while the grown ups made dinner and played Mexican Train on the large dining room table. The beds were very comfortable and the neighborhood very quiet at night. Only a 20 minute drive from the Madonna Inn or Avila Beach! We only wish we could've stayed longer, it would make a great retreat!

Stayed Sep 6, 2025Gorgeous views from the kitchen, balcony, and living area. We enjoyed the resident tortoise and the sweet dogs. There is not a traditional bedroom layout, but rather cozy alcoves and an attic with vaulted ceilings that contain the two queen beds. It worked perfectly for our family. Keep in mind that the home sits high up in the canyon, so allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes to drive up to the house. There are multiple short-term rentals on the property, and the very kind owner also lives on site, so while it feels remote, it is not entirely private. There were even coffee beans and a grinder provided, which made it easy to enjoy a really good cup of coffee while taking in the morning views. We stayed here with two small children, and they really liked it.

Stayed Sep 3, 2025My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this clean and comfortable mountain home. The kitchen has all the amenities of home if you want to cook a meal. I loved the coffee beans and pods provided! The first floor had plenty of room, a big television and the bed was great! The upstairs bedrooms and bathroom were also clean and more than enough room to invite our two adult children and seven-year-old grandson to join us next time! We were warmly greeted by Ryan our host and his two adorable, pups Bourbon and Cider. Ryan was so easy to talk with my husband, and I kept asking him questions about the property and other topics even though he would say he didn't want to keep us or intrude on our time. He was not intrusive, and we looked forward to the few times we were able to talk with him. He also knows the area well and offered helpful suggestions on what to do in the surrounding beach towns. The drive up the hill to this home was very scenic. We will stay here again!

Stayed Jun 27, 2025My Mom, Aunt and Sister stayed here while on a weekend girls trip. Ryan was nice. Communicated with us prior to arrival. Upon arrival he greeted and showed us around the property and shared his contact information. The place was as listed, however needed a good cleaning. There was mold in the downstairs bathroom that could use some attention. Outdoor sitting area needed some help. Wood barstools and counter were rough due to sun damage. There were plenty of floor fans throughout that were very much appreciated. It was concerning that we didn’t see any smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. I realize we were in the country but there were definitely creatures in the walls, upstairs. The upstairs shower curtain wasn’t keeping the water in the shower but we informed Ryan of this and he was immediately responsive to our communication and was going to work on a solution.

Stayed Jun 16, 2025My wife and I spent 30 days in CA and stayed in 6 different VRBO’s as we journeyed down the California Coastline. Ryan (and Bourbon Cider) were the absolute most gracious hosts. The property is astounding. I took 50 pictures and none of them live up to the beauty you’ll see with your eyes. The home is perfect for a family with beds to sleep at least 6. Very well appointed. The kitchen is fully equipped and the view from both the kitchen sink window and dining room area is so picturesque, it could be in a book. I absolutely loved this property. It’s about 5 miles up the mountain, and a bit remote from town, but well worth the tranquility. And SLO is my favorite town to visit on this trip. Being a college town, PLENTY of restaurants and shopping / things to do. A MUST stay. I will visit again. Total relaxation.

Stayed Apr 16, 2025I can't speak highly enough of this stay. Firstly, the photos do not even do the view justice; it is better. Expect that you will wake up above a beautiful cloud inversion nearly every morning, watching the sun set over the mountains with beautiful different colors every day. Easy nearby hiking is abundant, featuring beautiful bluff trails, mountains, or rolling hills. We visited in April, and the weather was consistent and beautiful; it truly felt heavenly. Secondly, Ryan's (and Bourbon and Cider's) thoughtfulness as a host is unparalleled; he is rapidly responsive to questions but will afford you as much privacy as you wish. If you wish to, he is wonderful to get to know.

Stayed Dec 31, 2024This is a one bedroom legally speaking. The view is gorgeous and true to the photos, but the set up is not. There is only one legal bedroom. Another bed is placed in a windowless room with a slanted ceiling, and the large king is in the middle of the living/dining area. Fortunately my friends are close and didn’t mind too much, but this could be tough for some groups. The host is nice and the location is very cool if you are up for a bit of a drive, but the listing should be changed for accuracy.

Stayed Dec 5, 2024The site has great views, a well supplied spice rack and kitchen supplies, and Ryan is an attentive host. However, the property is not correctly advertised. Our party required 3 bedrooms (enclosed rooms with doors, not part of the common space) and the property just has 2. The king sized bed is part of the dinning room/living room area. One of the bedrooms upstairs has a dormer ceiling which was challenging for our tall friend as was the sloping wall in the upstairs bathroom.

Stayed Dec 13, 2024This was certainly a mountaintop getaway! The photos of the views did not exaggerate. The property is about a 15-20 min drive up the mountain but well worth it. We were five friends (2 couples, one single) traveling with three dogs and it was very hard to find a VRBO that would accommodate our pets. But the owner, Ryan, and his sweet dogs Bourbon and Cider welcomed us all. Ryan was very friendly and helpful before and throughout our stay. The house was one of two rental units on the property, and Ryan lives in the main house, so is readily available for any questions. The house was very clean and well stocked. We had everything we needed. Laundry was available upon request of the code. The upstairs bedroom had two queen beds, and there was another queen bed in an alcove. There was a king-sized bed on the main living level. There were two full baths. There was plenty of space for our group, and would also be great for large families. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this incredible property.

Stayed Nov 29, 2024Pros: -Incredible views -Gracious host -Quiet and peaceful -Dog friendly -Hot water -Games and playing cards Cons: -Misleading advertising - it is NOT 3 bedrooms. One of the bedrooms is a bed in the main common area next to the kitchen table....no privacy and not a bedroom which was very inconvenient for us. We would have not rented this VRBO had we known this was the case. The other bedroom is a mattress on a floor in a small room with no window. -Not super convenient to downtown SLO but was a trade off with the incredible views. Could be an issue for someone if they are not comfortable navigating long, windy roads. -Low ceilings upstairs in bedroom and bathroom due to the slope of the roof - if you are tall you will likely have challenges with the layout -Furniture needs updating -Kitchen needs a deep clean - sticky surfaces where glasswear is stored and some ants (common in remote, secluded areas but still should be addressed)

From his willingness to communicate to his wonderful family (Bourbon, Cider, and Walter the tortoise) Ryan is the perfect host. And don't even mention the view. It's like waking up inside a postcard. Absolutely stunning. The house is big, which is great. The upstairs is like being in a modern cabin with the sloped ceilings while the downstairs is like being in a well appointed home. Views from every window. Ryan has done an incredible job of setting up the property to run like a well established hotel. Instruction are clear, and concise. the amenities are just what you need, and Ryan is available at a moment's notice to answer any questions but is perfectly happy giving you as much solitude as you want.
