Summary:

Salt spray, crashing waves, and a front-row seat to the Pacific -- welcome to the Mendocino Coast. End the day in your private hot tub with the ocean as your soundtrack. Curl up by the fireplace as fog rolls in off the Pacific. Room for 6 in this 3-bedroom home. Walk to local restaurants, river access, and Gualala Point Regional Park. Small-town pace, big coastal beauty -- that's Gualala.

The Space:

With its soaring ceilings and entire walls of glass, this luxe blufftop home in Gualala is a showcase of its spectacular oceanfront setting. At every turn and in every room, you'll have panoramic views of the Gualala River, the beach at Gualala Point, and the wild and open Pacific Ocean.

This two-story home boasts an incredible location, out on a point with 270-degree views of the ocean coast. The house feels private and secluded, yet it's also less than half a mile from shops, galleries, and markets in small-town Gualala.

Slide open the glass doors and bring your coffee outside to the patio each morning, keeping your eyes peeled for whale spouts on the horizon. This is a space to return to at sunset for an alfresco meal and a soothing soak in the private hot tub.

The interior is lofty and inviting, with banks of picture windows framing the oceanfront view like a work of art. The open great room is a place to curl up with a good book in the window seat, watch movies (on DVD, Blu-ray, and streaming) by the fireplace, and gather in the sleek kitchen and around the dining room table to prepare and enjoy special meals with a memorable view.

The primary suite has the upper floor to itself, offering a breathtaking vista from the bed, the soaking tub and shower in the en suite bathroom, and the balcony. There's even a recumbent bike for your morning workouts, a gas fireplace to keep things cozy at night, and a telescope for stargazing and spotting marine life. The two guest rooms are downstairs, each with a ocean view and direct access to the patio and hot tub.

The Neighborhood:

Your Gualala home base puts you steps from local restaurants, the Gualala Arts Center, and grocery shopping. Explore stunning beaches at Gualala Point Regional Park

Getting Around:

It's the perfect jumping-off point for scenic drives on Highway 1 and visits to Gualala Point Regional Park, the Sea Ranch Golf Links, and the Point Arena Lighthouse. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport, about 1.5 hours east. A car is essential for exploring the area.

Other Things to Note:

This property is located on a bluff and is not suitable for small children due to the unfenced areas.

Keep your eyes on the horizon from December to April -- gray whales migrate just offshore, and this property has a front-row seat. Visit in spring for wildflower season -- the hills above Gualala and the river trails burst with lupine and California poppies. June through September brings the warmest weather. Morning fog is part of the charm -- it usually clears to reveal blue skies.

Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.

The house inside was cleaned before our arrival. But it was not 5 star cleanness. The floor looked moped, but after crossing the room barefoot I got my feet dirty. Outside it was not cleaned at all, I had to swipe backyard myself. Windows were covered with dust and salt, I wish we could enjoy beautiful sea view through clean windows. I like the furniture, bathrooms and sculptures. The house design is original and it has a lot of light in each room. Bathroom supplies were provided, we have found extra toilet paper in upper bathroom, and extra soap in lower bathroom, so just shared it between floors. Kitchenware were enough, all types of glassware, mugs, etc. I wish there was microwave to warm up the food. I got check-in instructions (door lock code, wi-fi) just 4 hours before arrival. The area is remote and there is no service to read email on the way. I asked several questions about property the day before arrival, and got answered on the second day of our stay, probably it was bacause of the holiday, but I expected faster response. Wi-fi works good on both floors and around the property.

20 out of 10 for the view! This home has gorgeous views at about 180 degrees. You're right on the bluff! One morning, we had two deer hanging out in the yard. SO COOL! The house is very artsy, so not great for small children. I had a 3 year old and we were a little nervous about the art pieces, but it was ok. She did LOVE the tub upstairs! The neighbor has a rooster that likes to start your day off early, so if you leave the windows open to hear the gorgeous waves crashing against the beach, just be ready for crowing at 6:30-7 am. :). The house is pretty big, with lots of seating, but the oven is tiny! Like easy bake oven size. We came for Thanksgiving, but there was not way we were fitting a turkey in there. It's big enough to warm up cinnamon rolls. Fridge and freezer are drawers. It was interesting trying to get a gallon of milk in them. Gorgeous sunsets! Loved hearing the ocean!
