Set in a sheltered valley among the rolling hills two miles inland from Slapton Sands, a little further to the popular Blackpool Sands, Buckland House is an elegant Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse built sometime before 1750 and largely rebuilt in the Regency style as a gentleman farmer's residence in 1860. The house has received a complete restoration to a very high standard and now includes a conservatory overlooking the ponds and gardens with a view towards Dartmoor. Offering high quality accommodation for two or more families, tastefully furnished in keeping with the period of property, this lovely family home offers an opportunity to enjoy a holiday in comfortable surroundings. The entrance porch leads to the main hall, off which are the principal reception rooms. The south-facing sitting room has a traditional Georgian feel, with dual aspect windows that overlook the formal gardens. A second sitting room - the red room is a little smaller and often used by the younger guests for alternative TV programmes or games. A wood-panelled den with Bar billiards leads to the large conservatory overlooking the rear garden and ponds. The large slate flag floored traditional farmhouse kitchen has a door to the south facing patio and garden. A ground floor studio apartment with small self contained kitchen area and en-suite shower-room with views over the duck pond and orchard with a door to the rear patio which overlooks the ponds ; also access from the conservatory. Large shallow staircase leading to a landing with an original Victorian curved stained glass window with views over the countryside. Upstairs there are 6 bedrooms, 2 with en-suites and a family bathroom.
We are pet friendly and accept up to 4 well behaved dogs.
The House can be let together with neighbouring cottages for celebrations and weddings.
An area in the garden can be used to erect a marquee for special occasions seating up to 80 persons.

12 family members together for a week. A few issues as always but generally things ran smoothly. The accommodation was ideal and the location was good apart from having to navigate narrow lanes to reach everywhere. The weather was great apart from one day allowing us to enjoy the area and the gardens of the property.

We spent a lovely week at Buckland. The house and garden are beautiful and spacious. We were unlucky that it rained through the roof which was an outstanding repair not yet completed. But this didn’t compromise our stay.

We truly enjoyed staying in the beautiful farmhouse. The weather wasn't great, so all the more important that we had a lot of space inside.

Comms were great prior to arrival Property was ideal for large family gathering + 2 dogs - plenty of space, with very large enclosed front garden Location is two miles from the beach - roads are very narrow thru Slapton village

A really wonderful property, very spacious and an amazing garden and grounds. Plenty of room for everyone to eat together and the games room provided lots of entertainment. A perfect location to see South Devon and visit some beaches and neighbouring pretty towns. Richard was brilliant with his communication. I’d highly recommend this property.

A bit surprised when I came across lots of dead small flies in conservatory on window sill. Lots of room for everyone. Good place for a family get together. Certain areas could do with some attention, but overall, a good experience.

It was very spacious. It does need updating, but having said that we didn’t have to keep telling kids “don’t touch “ the only criticism is that there is a distinct lack of mirrors with electric sockets nearby.

Huge house with massive beautiful grounds. Was a shame that is rained throughout our trip but it didn’t matter as the house was big enough to accommodate. Could do with a little bit of updating, but this wasn’t a problem. We loved the bar billiards table! Really enjoyed our time, and Devon is a lovely place to stay. Thank you x

Beautiful old fashions traditional house. Very spacious! Lots of room for the kids and adults. The grounds were amazing - so much space including lots of fruit tress too. Richard was brilliant, we even had a new vacuum delivered next day when the old one broke. This is a beautiful property, as an old building don’t expect anything too lavish and modern. The property would really benefit from a very deep clean but that would be my only slightly negative point. We’d definitely visit again.

Everyone loved this house and the beautiful extensive gardens and surrounding countryside. We had breakfast outside in the sun nearly every day! There were plenty of rooms and alternative places to eat/play games/get some space. Getting about along the single track roads was a bit daunting until we got used to it. Expect it to take longer than planned to get anywhere, but there are plenty of beautiful beaches and places to visit not too far away. We were sad to come home and leave the house!
