Located right at the Pacific Ocean ~ Bali Temple offers 160-degree Ocean Views and a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful Hawaii experience that will leave you fully rejuvenated.
Bali Temple is truly a unique and special place to spend your time in Hawaii, and is known for its dramatic setting, beautiful architecture, and luxuriously well-appointed amenities.

Bali Temple is located adjacent to the 1993 lava flow which has created 160 degrees of glorious, expansive Pacific Ocean and whitewater views for your enjoyment. There is a private black sand beach a few hundred yards away to enjoy year-round sunrises and sunsets and watch the humpback whales breaching during the winter months.
Bali Temple enjoys a fully equipped modern kitchen, double vanity sinks, 6’ spa bathtub, granite, gorgeous Mahogany wood trim accents, expansive picture windows looking out to the ocean, large mirrors, a covered lanai, Tempur-Pedic mattresses, 100% cotton bedding, and thick bath towels.

Bali Temple is located on the top floor of a 2-story house and is fully contained with its own entrance, stairway, and amenities. It is 100% private. Ocean Temple, VRBO # 1247897, is located on the main floor of the house and is fully contained with its own entrance. Cottage at the Ocean, VRBO# 654541 is located in the separate cottage next door. There is a laundry room off of the house with its own entrance that all guests have access to. Contact me to learn about special rates when renting more than one of these properties at the same time.

All units are ideal for 2 people. We offer a sanctuary setting, where guests come to retreat from the hustle and bustle of their worlds, to deeply relax, recharge, and renew themselves amidst the beautiful natural setting that surrounds us. All guests are asked to maintain this sacred container when on the property.

When my visitors depart Bali Temple, they feel refreshed, invigorated, and much more vibrant than when they arrived. The air along our coastline has been measured to be the cleanest in the United States! The lush greenery and scenic coastline areas are inspiring.

There are many spectacular sites to visit during your stay: visit Kehena Beach, a gorgeous black sand beach where you may be lucky to swim and snorkel with wild spinner dolphins, and your (non) clothing is optional. Check out the numerous Volcano Touring activities such as: Volcano National Park, Lava Tree State Park, and Lava Hikes.

Experience an abundance of shopping for the true tastes of Hawaii with its abundant selections of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, flowers, and unique gift items at either Maku'u Market in Pahoa (Sunday morning), the Kaimu Market (Saturday morning, and ½ mile away from Bali Temple!) complete with authentic Hawaiian music and locally made crafts and treasures, and the Hilo Farmer's Market (7 days a week).

Acquaint yourself with the Island flora with a tour at the Botanical Gardens, sightsee and explore numerous waterfalls, Whale Watch from the lanai, indulge yourself with fine Dining, and dance it all off at Ecstatic Dance on Sundays at Kalani, and then the Drum Circle on Sunday afternoon at Kehena Beach. There are numerous Yoga Classes, Pilates Classes, and massage therapists ready to treat you!

Dining options from Bali Temple are numerous: Right in the neighborhood is an authentic Ava Bar, serving up the local and relaxing Kava beverage, with the Kalapana Village Café right next door, open til 9pm. Kalani Honua is 4 miles down the Red Road for delicious meals too. 9 miles up the road is Pahoa Town, with numerous options in Italian, Thai, Sushi, Mexican, Kaleo’s Bar and Grill, coffee shops, etc. Hilo is 30 miles for many more choices.

If you are seeking a retreat from the rest of the world, amidst luxurious accommodations, and a perfect springboard location to the rest of the island's activities, in an Old-World Hawaii setting only Lower Puna can offer, then Bali Temple is perfect for you.

I look forward to your visit at Bali Temple…see you soon!

Overall, the room was a pleasant stay for us—quiet and with great views. When we checked out, I accidentally left my AirPods in the room, and the host kindly promised to mail them back. However, after the stay, I contacted the host multiple times over the past month and also asked Expedia to help follow up regarding the return of the AirPods, but I have not received any response. I’m leaving this review in hopes of getting an update on their return.

Amazing property away from it all. The view, the accommodation, just being there was a wonderful and unique experience. We loved the views from the balcony and walk across the lava field and hang out at the beach. Wild and peaceful at the same time.

Absolutely gorgeous view. Completely different experience seeing the lava fields. We enjoyed watching the sunrises at the edge of the ocean. It’s only a about a four or five minute walk from the house and it’s easy to pack a chair to sit in. The unit itself is beautiful. We loved having the air conditioning and really didn’t need it too much but it was very nice to have. The condo itself is clean and up-to-date. The bed is very comfortable. Best one I’ve ever slept in at any VRBO. Pahoa is just a quick drive away and Hilo is only about 45 or 50 minutes if you plan to avoid traffic. The owner was easy to get a hold of and we had a great time. We hope to be back!

We spent 8 nights at Bali Temple and now feel refreshed and renewed. The home is beautiful, peaceful and well appointed with everything you might need. In addition to waking up with the sun rising over the lava; lapping ocean; swaying palm trees and roosters crowing, the temple house also has a full kitchen, books, puzzles and games; everything you need for the beach and snorkeling; binoculars for whale watching and so much more. It is a bit remote, but for us that was a plus. The only thing I would change is to add steps to both sides of the very high bed (perhaps 3 to 3.5 feet from the floor). It’s a true paradise and definitely worth a stay.

This was an amazing place. Even more beautiful in person, both inside as well as the views. So comfortable and relaxing. Our last day, we hiked out to the ocean and on down the lava flows behind the house. It was gorgeous and one of our favorites of all the things we did on our vacation.

Beautiful space right at the lava's edge in Kaimu, with the sea in the walkable distance. Comfortable space. Relaxing. Fully stocked kitchen with dishes, pans, microwave, toaster, blender. Within walking distance to Uncle Robert's Saturday Market and Store. Easy drive to Pahoa and Kehena Beach. It is a bit of Paradise with an ocean view!

Fantastic property with so many activities and sights in the area. Unique and private, beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed 5 days of rest, scenic tours, casual dining and exploring. We wouldn't have changed anything. The only reason we put 4**** for location is that it is quite remote and off the main highway (though roads are all paved), but it does mean a good 30 minute drive just to get onto the highway to proceed to other areas like South Point, Volcanoe, Hilo, etc. We loved the driving but it does factor into your vacation and daily travel itinerary - don't expect to find a restaurant close by, and it is Very dark at night!

The property is just as described. The views are amazing. The location is unique and eclectic. We enjoyed eating and listening to music during open mic at a bar in Pahoa. We also were able to spend a Wednesday night at Uncle Roberts bar and market enjoying the music and atmosphere that area is known for. The trip to the Volcanoes National Park is an easy hour drive and well worth the trip. This is a great location if you're looking for some relaxation and discovering Island life independent of commercial excursions and tours.

We absolutely adored the accommodations at Bali Temple. So comfortable with plenty of interesting reads, beach chairs and a well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the stars and the sound of the surf. Heads up the unit is a duplex so there was another couple downstairs.

The Bali Temple is a nicely appointed upper-story of a charming house on the SE shore of the Big Island. It has all the equipment necessary to hang out, cook for yourself, read, relax. Excellent internet. Washer/Dryer on premise (but, be warned, no TV). Great view of an amazing lava field, and beyond that, the ocean.People younger and more spry than us were out walking on the lava field; it's a short walk to the ocean. Folks were fishing, and actually coming home with fish! There's no beach there, so no swimming within walking distance, but dramatic waves crashing against the lava.Staying here and exploring the neighborhood, you'll see a lot of lava, some of which looks like heaps of cinders (a'a) and others areas like frozen licorice pudding (pahoehoe). Toss in a visit to the Volcano park and you'll be a lava expert, too!

A beautiful and immaculate upstairs residence surrounded by lush flowering trees and overlooking a spectacular lava flow running out into the ocean. The Hostess spared no expense or effort in remodeling this peaceful home, and her love for the Big Island and its culture shows. Everything at the Bali Temple was as advertised or better, from the soothing decor to the amenities like folding beach chairs, fully functional kitchen with microwave and gas stove, quality bath and beach towels, two coolers, board games and puzzles, and thoughtful details I can't even remember right now. Hint: check inside all the drawers! We visited in February and only really needed the air conditioning at night, and didn't see one bug inside the house. Definitely bring close-toed shoes for walking out onto the lava, and don't forget a flashlight or two: there's nothing like stargazing from the lava at night, but it's very dark at the Bali Temple! Sunrise was the best time to spot whales, and there were plenty to see.The WIFI works well, although we had no trouble with our Verizon cellular service. The Hostess was friendly and responsive to our questions and sent a complete package including a welcome letter several weeks in advance.Overall, an excellent and relaxing stay. We'll definitely return again!

The place is as described and pictured, full of amazing vintage furniture. We settled in comfortably after a little difficulty finding the place in the dark: the sign was higher than headlight range and the street has at least 5 houses. We were pleased that all of Rachel's guests were considerate people while that was not true of one resident house and one guest house on the street. We cannot recommend this place highly enough: truly unique. Rachel helped us a few times, communicating promptly.

Spent four nights here recently. My first VRBO booking, let’s just say everything you see and read in the posting are anccurate and exceeded my expectations. YES! That is the view in the pics. Here are some details: View: Amazing, even in the rain Bali House: just like it says, a zen and well done decor with an inviting layout. Location: quiet, peaceful, off the beaten path. THIS IS NOT THE LOUD OBNOXIOUS PACKED WITH PEOPLE RESORT AREA. This area is to leave that behind. Accommodations: could not think of anything that wasn’t there or available to us. Directions and instructions: not one issue, just read them. Host: R was great! Thank you so much! Bottom line: we will be back!!! Note: I read most of the reviews prior to booking. The “one star” post was a douche bag for sure. Let the shower water warm up, it will be fine. MJ

We spent four nights at Bali Temple and we both determined this was a special place. The unit is fully stocked with everything you need. It is clean, and serene. The location is right by the ocean and the lava fields, and the full moon shone down in the evenings. It is near beaches and markets and is a fun area to explore. Our host was helpful and responsive. We would stay again in a heartbeat if we return to this part of Hawaii.

Balcony overlooking the ocean! Lava to walk on outside the back door! Beautiful artwork inside and amenities galore. Such a comfy master bed - posturepedic. Wished the other bed options were better: thin mattress on lanai bed, thick foam and hard option, or squishy couch not a pull out. Teen slept fine on lanai bed but older side sleepers might not. Loved the squishy sofa - so cozy for chatting with my love face to face. Views are awesome! Birds were chirpy so ear plugs helped and windows quality that blocked sound some. The night sky stars were incredible! The use of binoculars were much appreciated to soak in the incredible views. There is a circle window that lets you wake up to a view. Would stay there again for sure! A must stay! We can’t wait to return. Mahalo for such an incredible experience!
