We are excited to share our lovely, large (2500 square feet), beautiful home situated right on the St. Louis River. Kayak, canoe, fish, or just enjoy the views from this scenic location. There is a large yard (~1 acre) with great privacy. The sunsets are amazing and the river in this area is very private, gentle, and scenic. The house is located near all the great north shore amenities. It is 10 minutes to Jay Cooke State Park, Spirit Mountain, and the Lake Superior Zoo; 15 minutes to Mont DuLac, Pattison State Park (largest waterfall in Wisconsin), and only 20 minutes to canal park in Duluth. There are so many great places nearby to hike, mountain bike, fish, frisbee golf, golf, etc. You can access hundreds of miles of 4-wheeler and snowmobile trails from the house, and there are tons of cross-country ski trails nearby. The St. Louis River is known for great walleye, bass, and muskie fishing. It really is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The home is a charming 1920s house with high ceilings, great woodwork, and is large enough to comfortably sleep 8-10 people. It has a separate sun room, living room, and dining room, so there is ample space to watch TV, play games, do a puzzle, etc. We also provide a charcoal grill, yard games, a canoe, and 2 kayaks so you can spend the whole day enjoying time at the house if that is your preference. There is parking in the driveway and carport for 4 vehicles. We have a list of our favorite activities and adventures in the area that we share with guests. We love this area so much and hope you will, too!

A few notes about the property so we are sure it will meet your needs and expectations. There are bathrooms on the 2nd floor and basement, but no main floor bathroom. Also, all bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The 3rd floor bedroom is accessed via stairs from a 2nd floor bedroom. There are stairs down to the shoreline of the river, but not too many. There is a train that runs near the house during the day and night, and it does sound it's horn. This could be disturbing to light sleepers. We sleep with the windows closed and some white noise (fans, music, etc.), so it isn't an issue for us. Property is licensed rental with Douglas County, ID #: ALED-CVNMFZ.

Very impressive and interesting house with nice access to the river. The only complaint was that two of our party had trouble sleeping because of the nearby train traffic. The owner had clearly warned us, so there is no complaint there, and the other four in our group had no problem.

This place had a great yard and a lot of space. It was convenient to 3 state parks. It was clean. The trains were not very bothersome with the wall air-conditioners. Little things would make it better - the kitchen is lacking a big pot so we struggled to make frozen ravioli for the family, also need big spoon for cooking, complete set of grill tools for grill. Multiple door pulls loose in kitchen. There are only 2 big pillows on each bed, plus 2 decorative pillows. We found 2 extra pillows in 1 closet, but that was less than desired for the number of adults we had. The house is older and therefore doesn't have many outlets - but it would be nice to have easy access outlet for charging a phone while I sleep. One of the twin beds didn't have a top sheet on it, just the fitted sheet and a comforter and pillow. Upstairs shower door doesn't shut firmly and spilled lots of water on the floor, but there was no bathroom rug so we used a towel for the mess. I would also bring my own shampoo and soap as it seems thay the owner may just rely on previous guests leaving behind body wash - many bottles nearly empty. We had enough, but the feeling was like it wasn't thought through. To be clear, I didn't ask the owner for extra pillows, big pot, etc. I struggle with not wanting to ask and be a bother. Yet, these things did cause me to rate 4/5 rather than 5/5. I would still consider staying again but I would also consider my other options.

The house is beautiful! Very historic. It was fun to be on the river and there are several state parks nearby. We went to Jay Cooke and Amnicon State Parks. Beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. We didn't get to Pattison State Park but it has a waterfall that's almost as tall as Niagra Falls. The town of Oliver is very small so not much to do there, but easy to get to Duluth where there's lots to do.The price of this VRBO is very reasonable and the neighborhood is quiet, other than the train. Would stay there again

Usually come up for Grandmas marathon. This year I couldn’t run so we came just to vacation and fish . Enjoyed the whole stay from the beautiful sunsets to catching fish off the dock. The river was a little low but we were stilll able to catch fish in the boat. Let be the house and all the amenities

What a charming place! There's easy access to the St. Louis river and a canoe with several kayaks. It's private but I let 10 minutes from shopping for quick trips to pick up your 'forgetables'.

Overall it was a nice place to stay. great location if you are fishing the St. Louis River. The frequent train rolling by is a little annoying when you are trying to sleep, but the property owner does disclose that.

Beautiful historic home on the river, just over the Wisconsin border. Very quick drive to Duluth, Mont-du-lac and Jay Cooke State Park. Train was audible but with the white noise machine, it was not a major issue. Ample room for everyone to spread out, appreciated having two bathrooms.

Honestly probably would have been five stars if not for that silly train that comes by quite often. Foam ear plugs while sleeping made it so most of us barely noticed it... but a few did. And there could have been more curtains on the windows. But overall our group of runners was quite happy with the accommodations.

Great location and proximity to Duluth and attractions. Beautiful spot on the water with deck and kayaks to use. House is very spacious with lots of various entertaining rooms. It is very dated- floors creak a lot, no central air and window units make for varying levels of cool and humidity throughout. The water is hard with a slight odor and yellowish color. Door knobs are antique and fall off occasionally. Host was very responsive but not great attention to details- a few amenities were missing or running low. Listing does make it clear this property is close to the train- it is a very loud horn and does shake the house when it goes by a few times in the night.

Our family of 8 people had a lovely time! The sun room has a great view of the river and trees. the kayaks and canoe and fire pit were fun to use. The kitchen had space for cooking, and the dining room could accommodate our 8 people. We were thankful for the window air conditioner units. We were surprised that accessing one double bedroom was through another double bedroom. We must not have seen that in the description or forgotten it, but our grown married kids were good sports about that with their spouses. Not a huge deal. Host Corey was helpful and friendly and prompt with answer replies via email. Thanks again, Corey!

We had such a great time at this property. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The river was never busy while we were there, so we enjoyed going out on the canoe and kayaks. My boys loved fishing although they unfortunately had no luck. The train was not too bothersome, and it was so neat to watch it go across the bridge. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

Spent much of our time in the gorgeous sun room above the water, and took out the kayaks a few times. Many special touches throughout that add to the experience. We would love to return!
