We arrived from Colorado Springs after staying for a week in an excellent VRBO priced similarly, with intentions of a couple of days with a river view and golf at Rio Grande GC. We had some trouble finding the property but with a call the realtor gave us directions. Property does look like pictures on VRBO but entering we noticed a heavy odor of uncleanliness. After looking we noticed the outdoor porch isn’t usable because of all the cobwebs on the walls. The place looked like it may have been cleaned but no one had been there to inspect for several weeks. Also dead bugs in the window seals and in the tub. No windows open per sticky notes on window and no AC. The linens and towels are mismatch and need replacing. I contacted via voicemail and ask for return call at 7:45am and let them know we were leaving and only staying the one night. We also canceled golf and headed back to the heat. Too bad nice property not kept up. Hopefully the owner will offer a return on our payment for night we didn’t stay.
The location of this house is fantastic but the house itself needs some minor work. There were spiderwebs everywhere inside and out. The kitchen was very under equipped. For example, there were only 4 coffee cups and the house sleeps 6-8. I wrote to the property manager ahead of time concerning a few things I wanted to know about. He responded quickly but the information I was given was inaccurate. There is a really nice big rental next door and that is looking neglected as well. It is a shame because these are both great properties they just need better care. Having access to the Rio Grand made putting up with the negative things really worth it and since we were primarily there to flyfish. For this reason alone, I would still consider renting here again. Next time I would be sure to bring more things to help me in the kitchen. More dish towels, dish soap, coffee filters, a wisk, scissors, foil and or plastic wrap, paper plates, and disposable coffee cups. I brought 6 disposable foil baking dishes and they were a life saver. This would all be needed if I were to come back. Giving your guests a decently equipped kitchen is not really that expensive and in this case it I cannot give it a higher ranking.
No windows worked. Gave us the wrong door code to get in. Outside was very poor and not taken care of. Cobwebs in abundance on exterior logs and lights. Furniture torn and worn. Weeds so tall couldn’t see the river. Everything needs to be cut back away from house. It was very quiet and peaceful but property is run down. Master was very large and and clean but needed a King Bed.
Such a beautiful location and the home was perfect for our family. It was cozy yet plenty big enough for our family of 6. The fireplace was amazing and kept us very warm after a full day of skiing. We would highly recommend staying there and hope to stay again soon. I’m sure the summer months are beautiful with the river just footsteps away!
