Stayed Jan 1, 1We stayed at Whitelady House as an extended family (three generations) over the Christmas period in 2025. This was our fourth time at Whitelady House, and we've been visiting on and off since 2012. Firstly, this is a fabulous location and house for exploring all that Dartmoor has to offer, and although many places were closed over Christmas, there was still plenty to do in the area. With Lydford Gorge literally outside the back door, the dogs had plenty of space to explore besides the extensive garden area. The house itself is old, and with that comes a few quirks, including two sets of stairs, which presented a unique challenge for us with a 16-month-old toddler and necessitated the use of many stair gates. But having two lounge areas, along with the kitchen, meant there was always plenty of space for people to find peace. Overall, the house was warm and inviting, especially after a day out in the cold. The only downside is the very slow internet connectivity. If you need to maintain access to the broader world, this can be a limitation. But if you're planning to get away from it all, then a slow-to-almost nonexistent internet connection is the right choice. Overall, although this is expensive, especially for Christmas, we thought it was well worth it to get the whole family together. Ruth (the host) is excellent and couldn't have been more helpful.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This was a booking for a party of ladies to come and ride on the moor. The house worked well, was comfortable, clean, warm and of good quality. The only two issues were; 1. The wifi had no internet connection for the majority of the weekend and 2. (a very minor one) The wood for the burners was too fresh to burn well, another year and it would be perfect!

Stayed May 25, 2018Whitelady house is superb. It is beautifully presented and equipped with everything we could need. The whole family enjoyed being there. The hot tub was especially appreciated! I have all ready recommended the house to friends wanting somewhere to go as a special treat.

Stayed Aug 7, 2017Our very large family had a fabulous stay in this lovely big house, lots of features. Superb kitchen with more crockery, cutlery and utensils than a hotel, great for dinner parties! House was well heated, no problems with Wi-Fi, all the family managed to connect. Loads to do locally, we went to Looe a holiday resort about 30 miles away, very pretty also Plymouth. A lot to see locally as well if you look. Kids loved the hot tub, went in every evening. Can't fault the house and thanks to the owner for the splendid home made cakes they left us (:

Stayed Nov 4, 2016My college friends and I had a lovely stay at Whitelady House in Devon. The house is beautifully furnished, spacious and very well equipped in a beautiful location; the back garden leads into Lydford Gorge which was absolutely beautiful in all its autumn glory. My college friends and I regularly book cottages throughout the UK and Whitelady House would certainly rank in the top 3; indeed we would definitely consider booking this one again as there is plenty of capacity for bigger parties. The only thing I can criticise Whitelady House for is it's wifi signal which is weak to say the least. Other than that it is the near perfect property especially if you like gorgeous countryside and walking.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We spent the second week of our holiday in this lovely house. The first week we were in another HomeAway' house in Cornwall, which was also beautiful but very different. We were a party of 12 adults (2 families) and the house was more than big enough for us, the dining room is amazing. My only criticism, which isn't really one, was the poor wifi (they need a few extenders) and the lack of phone signal if you are on anything else than EE. The wifi is limited to the front 2 bedrooms and just about stretches to the TV room but that is it! Park cars outside the house rather than outside the out buildings as some slates are loose. The garden is lovely and so peaceful. We had 2 meals in the Castle pub in Lydford, which is just about walkable distance. Enjoyed the walk around Lydford Gorge. Had some great trips out to Hay Tor, Widecombe in the Moor (some lovely places to eat), Bude, Tavistock and the more adventurous of us had an excellent time 'dirt bike riding'. Loved the box of welcome homemade flapjacks, they went quickly. Only saw the owner once and she was very helpful. Only wish I could afford such a property near London!
