Duluth, Minnesota
Come play... rest... and reboot your vibe! This home is ideal for everything from solitude and novel writing to creating your next Broadway smash on the baby grand piano to reconnecting through quality time with your immediate family. This is a fairly small cottage/cabin very conveniently located in the country but minutes to the city of Duluth and all it has to offer.
The covered porch overlooking the lake is the ideal location to watch storms, sunsets and on a very rare occasion the Northern Lights. We even have a telescope for you star gazers. There's loads of room to run and play as well as a full recreational lake. If you're a golfer there is a lovely little 9 hole course at the end of the lake. It's reasonably priced and has carts. There is also a nice clubhouse with food and beverages, it's a great place for a Bloody Mary and an omelette!
About the house: this adorable lake cottage with three bedrooms, two baths on Pike Lake, a recreational lake 15 minutes from Canal Parks tourist area of Duluth Minnesota and 30 Minutes from all the North Shore on Lake Superior has to offer. We have a baby grand piano, loads of books for every age, games, poker set, VCR, movies, cable, internet, high chair, basinet, pack n play, sleds, kayaks and a canoe for your enjoyment! Outfitted with a front loading washer/dryer/dishwasher/gas fireplace/out door fire pit/dock/and a covered porch perfect for happy hour and dinners and even better, sunrise breakfast!
The driveway is paved and has parking for your boat trailer. Renters in the past have tracked down a boat rental company that delivers, I'm trying to find that information.
*We do not rent our pontoon or jet ski, it has caused nothing but problems in the past.
This is not a North Shore style cabin. It is on a lake with 99% year around homes. The neighbors are close and very helpful. The lake itself is about 7 miles around. Dairy Queen, the liquor store, Cub grocery, bait shop, restaurants, a super fun little golf course on the lake and a short drive to the Arial Lift Bridge and all Duluth has to offer.
Rules: I don't feel like I need to mention but due to prior guest issues I will post them here:) The rules are as follows but not limited to:
No parties and or overnight guests, any harassment of wildlife on the property or on the lake will not be tolerated (people on this lake will and should call the DNR immediately), no shooting guns on the property, please wear pants outside, please do not urinate on our lawn, please do not flip the embers of the fire pit onto the grass, please do not sit on the pontoon or the jet ski (they're on lifts), please do not drive on the yard or the sidewalk, if your break something please tell us (this includes window panes) stuff breaks we get it, no leaving dirty diapers behind doors, its gross and our cleaner doesn't deserve that, if you leave items from our rental at another on the lake please return them to our home, no wet towels on beds, piano or floors, the home is limited to 6 guests (a child is a guest), sadly we cannot allow pets due to allergic issues, and a lot of other stuff that may seem like common sense to the general public:)
Great location. Beautiful setting. Cabin well stocked.
Good location and the property was nice. There was a lot of spider webs inside and outside of the property. The rooms were very small and could barely walk around the beds in the two upstairs rooms. Furniture was worn down and some damaged. Nice kitchen, dining area and basement. Lots of games for the kids and the pontoon was old but worked well. We received a text from the property owner the first morning, “I’m coming up there now…how many people are at the property…” I called the owner, at which time she interviewed me about having guests stop by the property and told me the neighbors had been watching us. (We had another family stop by during the day to spend time with us because they were in the area). She also told me that she was then coming up to the property to stay at the neighbors house. It was as though she was spying on us. We felt so uncomfortable. The next day, a neighbor came into the house to get a game. Very invasive and not a private experience. I’ve been renting properties through Vaious platforms for several years and have never encountered such a neighbor or property owner. Not a good idea experience and would not recommend to future renters who would like privacy. Overall the house was in a good location and had good amenities: it’s unfortunate the experience we had. I’m a healthcare worker with three kids and my husband and I work full time and saved up enough money to end the summer with a weekend away for our family. Our experience was so disappointing.
The cabin was somewhat quaint. There was a smell in the Kitchen that I had to clean to get rid of it. The windows did not work properly if at all. A few of the neighbors were not friendly at all; which made us feel uncomfortable. The kids enjoyed the lake until people on a pontoon came and yelled at them for kayaking too close to ducks. There was one neighbors dog that was supper friendly. Over all it was an ok stay, but we probably won’t rent again. Did not exactly meat our expectations
Loved the property, we spent most of our time on the coveted deck due to the rain all weekend but it was great. Only disappointment was no refund of boat rental and gas due to low lake levels and could not get the boat off the lift.
The cottage was comfortable, clean, organized and had amazing lake views! The owner has thought of every detail and was an amazing host. The lake was clean and the neighborhood was quiet and serene. Our short stay was filled with relaxation and new memories!
This place was exactly what we were looking for! Lakefront/nature feel, but minutes from activity in/around Duluth. Excellent host, thanks Pauline! The covered porch was a great place to relax. Nice big dining room table to eat around indoors, or the furniture on the porch to eat outside. Plenty of activities like Wii and board games and a poker table. The pontoon is a must! Sunsets on the nice lake were awesome. Small deck halfway down the hill was a surprisingly nice spot to relax as well. ALL kinds of kitchen appliances including blender. Very large refrigerator. Very comfortable beds! They thought of everything you may need, like blankets for on the pontoon, firestarters, skewers for marshmallows, bug spray, sunscreen, you name it. Nice neighbors, not outside much. Not too busy on the lake either. Seemed like we kind of had the place to ourselves. Easy in, easy out. All around experience worthy of 5 stars. We'll be back!
Our host was so kind and thoughtful - she left us a welcome bottle of wine and stocked the house with everything we could possibly need. There were a number of games and puzzles for all ages, and our 2 grandkids enjoyed playing Wii Mario Cart for the first time! We also rented the pontoon, which was enjoyed by everyone! We would definitely recommend this property, which is so close to Canal Park and so easy to get to - and would absolutely like to rent this house again!
My husband and I rented Pauline and Kirk’s cabin for the weekend of our wedding and I’m not joking when I say we didn’t want to leave. This home is equipped with everything you could possibly need for your getaway. The views of the lake are incredible and Pauline went out of her way to make sure our wedding staycation was a dream come true. This home has gorgeous lake views, a large yard with plenty of games and a stunning kitchen with up to date appliances. It might have been the welcome champagne Pauline left for us but I swear the sunset at the end of the dock was the most beautiful one I have ever seen. This home is perfect for families or a couple that is just looking to get away. Again, thank you Pauline and Kirk for making our wedding weekend one we will never forget.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage and all of the little extras provided by the owners. Great little recreational lake and close enough to enjoy hiking up the north shore. Definitely enjoyed the use of the pontoon. If you have allergies, it is damp due to location and time of year. Thanks for having us!
We truly enjoyed everything about this place! The beautiful lakeside setting, the friendly wildlife like chipmunks, loons, ducks, eagles and more! Sunsets were amazing. We played games, puzzles and lots of fishing. The pontoon and kayaks are a must! The house was clean and well stocked with everything you need. Highly recommend. Thanks Pauline!
