Summary:

Walk straight onto Tonggs Beach, rinse off, and choose which of three private lanais gets sunset tonight. This historic three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath Diamond Head home sleeps eight and gives a family or close group something rare in Honolulu: a beachfront house with character, space, and a direct connection to the water. Listed on the State Register of Historic Places, the Gingerbread Home has been thoughtfully updated with custom furnishings and a gourmet kitchen, whilethe primary suite takes over the entire top floor. Grill in the oceanfront courtyard, play at nearby beach parks or tennis courts, then stroll toward the Diamond Head end of Waikiki for dinner. Air conditioning, a garage, and an in-home washer and dryer make the logistics easy. It is not a generic Waikiki stay. It is a beautiful, deeply local-feeling Oahu base for travelers who want the beach out front and a memorable home behind them.

The Space:

This three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath historic home sleeps eight, with the primary suite occupying the entire top floor. Custom furnishings and a gourmet kitchen lend a polished but lived-in feel, while three private lanais make room for coffee, reading, and sunset. Air conditioning, a garage, an in-home washer and dryer, and an oceanfront courtyard with a barbecue make group stays easier.

Guest Access:

This Honolulu home offers a private entrance and its own garage parking right on site. Guests are directly on the beach with ocean front and beach view access, and in unit laundry keeps longer stays easy. A lit path to the entrance rounds out a comfortable, self contained retreat.

The Neighborhood:

Tonggs Beach sits at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, a more residential-feeling pocket of Honolulu where the ocean, beach parks, and outdoor courts are part of the daily scene. Walk the shoreline toward Kapiolani Park, stop for a swim, or head into Waikiki for restaurants, shops, and beach activity. Diamond Head rises nearby for the classic Oahu hike, and the neighborhood's location makes a sunset beach walk feel wonderfully simple. It suits guests who want Waikiki access without staying in the center of its busiest blocks.

Getting Around:

Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is about 20 to 30 minutes away depending on traffic. A rental car is optional here, since Waikiki and much of Honolulu are very walkable, with rideshare and the bus system covering the rest. Beaches, shopping, and dining are often just steps or a short stroll away. Parking is typically available through hotels or paid lots rather than free street parking.

Other Things to Note:

Parking: private garage parking for one vehicle is provided. This unit includes garage parking. This rental does not have central heating. Please note a relative of the homeowner lives in the house that shares the courtyard, and the grill and beachfront courtyard are shared with the adjacent home. No smoking is permitted on the seawall per city and state rule. Please note this neighborhood is a hotspot for foot traffic to watch the surf and sunset.

Interaction with Guests:

Our local Heavenly Vacations Oahu team is just a call or message away throughout your stay. We know the island from Waikiki to the country, and we are always happy to share our favorite spots to enjoy, and to help right away should any issue arise. We respect your privacy and are here whenever you need us.

My husband and I have used VRBO for our last few vacations. We are careful to read descriptions and reviews. We chose this house as we needed the room and location as we were here to celebrate our son’s wedding. Overall, this house was beautiful with outstanding views. Location was just as described. Enjoyed the surfers each morning while having our morning coffee on the balcony/lanai. With that being said, I do have a couple of suggestions. A vacuum cleaner or some type of sweeper is needed for a quick cleanup. Had my son and groomsmen there to dress. Would have been nice to just do a quick vacuum. Also, a new ironing board is desperately needed. Thank goodness I brought a steamer. Had to steam and press wedding and rehearsal attire. Third floor outdoor furniture needs either new cushions or needs to be totally replaced, Quite dated and Cushion on one chair was totally frayed. Had to turn it over and cover with a towel. We also had an issue with the alarm system. Handyman was there several times to try and fix to no avail. Alternate arrangements had to be made for entry. Hope this is helpful.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We absolutely loved this house! It was perfect for our family of 4 teenagers. It's located about a 15 - 20 walk from Waikiki beach, the walk is easy, mostly along the park. You can sit on the deck in the morning and drink your coffee, you can sit on the deck during the day and watch boats, ships, surfers, airplanes and helicopters. You can also sit on the deck at night with a glass of wine or whiskey and watch the beautiful sunset. If your looking for more of a private get-away, this is the place for you. The neighbors are wonderful, especially the aunt that lives next door.

The property was absolutely perfect, exactly as advertised. It was well maintained and very functional, met all our desires and needs. Not to detract in any way from what a great property this is, I would suggest providing Toilet cleaning tools and supplies in each bathroom, and getting all of the Refrigerator drawers operational.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Gingerbread home. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in this area. The views from the three separate balconies are unbeatable. We have three kids ranging in age from 1-6 and I felt totally comfortable with them on each of the balconies. I cant say enough about this spot, super sweet, charming and unparalleled views of the water.
