Montreat, North Carolina
Treat your whole family to a stay at Happy Clan Cottage in the heart of Montreat on Georgia Terrace. This 4 bedroom, 2 full bath, 2-story cottage was built in 1921 but has been updated for relaxed comfort. Modern kitchen includes all that is needed to cook and celebrate except the food and drink. Linens and towels as well as extra blankets are provided. A covered garage plus extra parking is available. Start your morning with coffee on the upstairs or downstairs south-facing covered porch, walk around Lake Susan, and hike up Lookout. Excellent restaurants and big chain grocery stores are just a couple of miles away in Black Mountain. Asheville is only 20 minutes away if you want to explore further. Relax in the hammock and catch up on your reading, or attend one of Montreat's conferences. WiFi, cable, washer and dryer. Sleeps up to eight.
Our cottage does have its quirks: the kitchen, dining room, and one bathroom with washer and dryer are downstairs, while the bedrooms, living room, and second bathroom are upstairs. Three of the bedrooms have a sink and mirror! No matter how the cottage is laid out, we find it just plain comfortable and a great place to relax and enjoy family and friends.
Second time staying here for Thanksgiving. Love this place! My family mostly stays at the Assembly Inn but we have a little group that stays here. Lots of room, great kitchen and laundry. Old house but modern amenities. Very charming.
Happy Clan Cottage was a perfect home for my family of 6 staying in Montreat for a week. It is ideally located, comfortable, and full of charm. We hope to stay again when we return.
The property was very nice. Our family of 7 and one child enjoyed the time there even though it was too too short. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was clean. Beds were comfortable. The stairs were steep and I doubt would be easy for less mobile folks. Access to the niceties of Montreat was perfect. The Lake, playground, hiking trails, and conference center was just right. All in all much appreciated stay from the whole family.
This cabin was perfect for two families coming for a weekend with our church. The location could not have been better, and the children (ages 6-11) had a great time exploring the house and then grounds! The porch was a perfect place to having our morning coffee and evening wine! Although we did not cook any meals, the kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed! We hope to use the same cabin next year!
We stayed at Happy Clan for a long weekend and it was perfect!
A friend and I rented Happy Clan to attend a conference at Montreat. It was an easy walk to the the main buildings. Montreat is beautiful.
We had a sibling reunion to relive our childhood memories of vacationing in Montreat. The Happy Clan Cottage was perfect for us. It was close to the places we remembered (e.g. Lake Susan and Lookout Mountain) and we had fun doing all the things we did as kids. Despite our age (mid 50's to mid 60's), we were thrilled to be able to make it to the top of Lookout Mountain. The website description was accurate and we had everything we needed. We stopped in Black Mountain on our way to Montreat to stock up on groceries. We played board games in the living room at night and laughed a lot around the dining table. The internet worked well, as did the TV. We were very happy staying at the Happy Clan!
This stately 100 year old home was perfect for our group: the large living room, dining room and 2nd floor covered porch gave us ample communal space for our group of 8 (7 adults/1 toddler); we never felt claustrophobic even with 3 days of torrential rainstorms! The kitchen was well-appointed with everything you need to cook in (we only ate out once). Two full baths (with full size laundry) was sufficient for our needs. The doors at the top and bottom of the stairs kept our toddler safe and the noise down for late sleepers or nappers. The beds were very comfortable and having sinks in 3 bedrooms decreased the use of the bathrooms for washing hands/brushing teeth. Located two blocks from the Montreat Conference center was awesome. With 4 people attending the conference with differing schedules we could come and go as we pleased. The owners were VERY responsive (we only had a problem with trash pick up due to a holiday) and the home was in very good condition and extremely clean. The quirky floor plan (as described by the owner) actually worked very well for our group. We highly recommend the Happy Clan Cottage and will definitely book this home for our next conference!
We needed a full kitchen for our baby and this house was so convenient to where the rest of our group was staying at the Montreat Inn! The house was gorgeous even if the layout was a little weird. Plenty of room for everybody and the kitchen and bathrooms were surprisingly modern.
We were in Montreat for a family reunion and enjoyed staying here. There were enough beds for everyone, a cozy living room, and nice covered porches. We didn’t cook at the house but the kitchen was well-stocked. We would return!
We loved the home, very historic and comfortable. Everything was ready for our arrival. 100 year old arts and crafts home, step back in time and relax!
Beautiful fall getaway. This house is clean, well appointed and comfortable. Quiet location but close enough to Black Mountain and Asheville. Already looking forward to our next visit.
The property was better than expected. Jill was a great host, everything was super clean and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to return.
Loved a fall weekend in Montreat at this perfect location. We will be back!
This property was terrific for my family. It was exactly as described, right down to the quirky character, which we all enjoyed :) The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals, and the bathrooms and bedrooms were well appointed. I personally loved the porch and the chair swing (it *may* have been a race between my daughter and myself who could get out there first). The location is so convenient, regardless of whether you want to explore Montreat, Black Mountain, or Ashville. Even though is POURED one whole day we were there, we were able to easily entertain ourselves locally and in the house (my kids decided to put together one of the very detailed puzzles). Thank you for a relaxing weekend get-away!
We had everything we needed in the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We enjoyed the hammock and the covered porch. Bedroom sizes were perfect for our family and we loved the Montreat feel of the cottage. The cottage is located in a perfect spot and we enjoyed walks to the lake and to the creek. We definitely would stay in this cottage again!
We had a family gathering at the Happy Clan. It was an ideal location to enjoy all the aspects of Montreat: the creek, the children’s play area, the barn dance, Lake Susan. The cottage was very clean and well-stocked. We could tell the owners take very good care of this home. It was perfect for our family and we created many happy memories there.
We had a fantastic stay in this cottage. It was a short walk to everywhere we wanted to go, and we loved the charming cottage. Thank you!
Awesome! The accommodations for our family of 5 was perfect. The house was comfortable, clean, and stocked with all necessary items. The hosts were attentive and positive in our communications. If one wants to spend a relaxing vacation with family/friends in the beautiful NC mountains, this is the place.
Our stay was great. Very charming home, walking distance to Montreat College/Conference Center.
We enjoyed each morning and evening on the upstairs porch! Spacious accommodations for 6 of us to catch up. We could play tennis, pickleball and hike all within walking distance from the home.
This charming retreat home is within easy walking distance to Assembly Inn, Lake Susan, the playground, and trailheads. It is also several streets of the main road, making the location quiet. We loved all the birds singing and calling to one another. The upstairs porch was perfect for sitting even during a spring rain.
We’ve now stayed at this property several times and can attest to it’s consistency. Montreat is beautiful year-round. Jill’s home is a comfortable and quiet place to stay close to all Western North Carolina has to offer.
