Grand Treetop Suite at Resort-like Estate... steps to Balboa Park & Zoo

Everything about our stay was wonderful, from the personal greeting by Kent to the location (so close to the park and all the great restaurants and neighborhood of North Park) to the comfort and Craftsman elegance of the unit itself. We had mixed weather while we were were visiting. On the nice-weather days we really enjoyed both the charming porch and courtyard and ability to walk around the lovely neighborhood and to 30th street and all it offers. But we also loved just hanging out and reading or watching a movie during the rainy morning or two, from our private cozy nest looking out into the lush tropical oasis that Kent has created. It truly is like being in a magical tree house! Looking forward to our next visit already - and thank you Kent, for being such a great host!

This property is breathtaking. The apartment is spacious, well designed and the gardens are absolutely beautiful. Loved our stay at this paradise.

This space was incredible and just what we needed for a relaxing vacation in San Diego. Its perfectly situated to easily get around the city, but we found ourselves spending lots of time relaxing in the apartment.

The property was fabulous just what the pictures showed. Kent kept in touch with us and greeted us at the gate when we arrived. He took the time to show us the property and explain the area. Kent made us feel very welcome. We had an amazing time!!! If we are ever back in San Diego we will be in touch with him and stay again if his place is available.

One of the very best vacation rentals I’ve had! Kent is lovely and thoughtful. He checked me in in person and gave me a tour of the property. The space is gorgeous - relaxing, calm. The fountain is lovely and the sound so soothing at night. Kent has done amazing things with the property, inside and out. He was extremely responsive. The apartment had everything I needed. I couldn’t recommend this more highly for a single traveler or couple. I will be back!

Absolutely wonderful property. Host is on premises and extremely responsive. Location is such a beautiful oasis, and very convenient via uber to Balboa Park and the harbor attractions. We didn't have a car, but if you did there is ample free parking. Can't say enough great things about our host, Kent, and his property.

The location was ideal for exploring Balboa Park and experiencing great San Diego food. Staying there was like being in an oasis. The cool breezes passing through the rooms while listening to the water fountain and watching myriad hummingbirds was heaven. Kitchen was very well equipped. It is a no shoes home, just like ours at home, which was very nice.

The property was in an excellent location. Within blocks of 30th Avenue which has a vibrant and hip nightlife and excellent restaurants and eateries. Very close walk to Balboa Park and all that has to offer with museums and the San Diego Zoo. The propert itself was incredible! Lush landscaping made for cool days and relaxing nights. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed for cooking. The location was very quiet. I would highly recommend the place and Kent.

This apartment is a very special place. You feel when you walk through the gate. The breezy windows and lush views made us feel like we were on a tropical vacation. We enjoyed grilling on the private patio and also dining on the balcony. The firm bed was super comfortable, and we got great sleep. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. Parking was never a problem. The location is close to the zoo and downtown. Kent is a wonderful host. It is clear that the house is loved and is more than just an investment to him. You can feel the love and pride all around you as you enjoy this lovely home.

This property was curated with beauty and practicality both indoors and out. There were extraordinary surprises at every turn. Comfortable, quiet, and harmonious. A real pleasure to relax in beautiful surroundings.

Everything about this property is exceptional. Kent is a wonderful host who responds very timely to any questions you might have and to share recommendations. The property itself, is a beautiful tropical retreat, very relaxing, yet conveniently located to all San Diego has to offer. Your accommodations are lovely with everything you need for your home away from home. My husband and I couldn't have been happier with our choice and look forward to a return visit to Kent's home.

We had an amazing stay at the Grand Treetop Suite. The home is lovely, extremely clean and well stocked. The grounds are absolutely stunning. It feels that you are in your own private oasis.Ken is an amazing host! He was incredibly attentive and provided us with a wealth of local recommendations, which made her stay that much more enjoyable! I cannot say enough about Ken and his beautiful property!

Kent is a great host! And I can’t say enough about the beauty of the house. Gorgeous restored craftsman surrounded by lush gardens… Felt like I was far away from the city, and yet Balboa park is right around the corner, as are shops and dining along North Park’s 30th Street. My only regret is not staying longer!

Cozy and comfy.

Our experience was exceptional from beginning to end. The host warmly welcomed us, gave us a fascinating tour of his historic property, and answered our texts promptly. Sitting on the private deck off the living room made us feel as though we were in a beautiful, tropical hideaway. Balboa Park and all it has to offer was just steps away in this lovely neighborhood.

We were very happy with the location. There were wonderful restaurants and they were easy to walk to. Also, the house was just as advertised. It felt like home. The host showed us around the house and answered all of our questions.

Everything about Kent’s property was pretty much perfect! Exactly as described, just so charming and warm. And the gardens are spectacular…We just loved our stay!

Our anniversary vacation was absolutely wonderful in the Grand Treetop Suite. Pictures do not do this tropical oasis justice! Whether we were enjoying the Craftsman home's spacious porch or the gorgeously landscaped courtyard with it's fountain and percola, we felt so relaxed. San Diego is one of our favorite cities, and this property's location is ideal for enjoying the area. We were minutes away from Balboa Park's museums, theaters, zoo, and beautiful green space. Petco Park, the Gaslamp District, and the waterfront were a short drive away, too. The owner, Kent, has created a gracious and tranquil retreat. He is a wonderful host. We definately want to come back!

Great place perfect location kent keeps the grounds spotless

Kent was a wonderful host and this property was fabulous!

Kent, a great host, greeted us when we got there and showed us around the property. Parking for our rental car was available right in front of the door (on street) or in the driveway. Walking distance to restaurants was a big plus. Also only a 5 minute drive to the zoo. Rooms were large and comfortable. King size Bed was comfortable.

Beyond perfect.

Kent was kind enough to let us use his property and beautiful courtyards for our private elopement ceremony. The house is very clean, private, and the surrounding area is absolutely stunning. The location and neighborhood cannot be beat, with easy access to the park and local shops. Kent is super nice and does an exceptional job communicating and answering questions. This is such a special place, and I cannot recommend it enough if you’re visiting San Diego!!

We stayed for a week at Kent’s’ wonderful home. The property is beautiful with the gardens and the house are gorgeous. There was so much space.the location is so centrally located. Lots of nearby restaurants. I’d still recommend a car rental. Kent was kind enough to allow us an early check in. Some excellent spots for breakfast Colimas Hash House go go. The Taco stand is walkable ( but up a steep hill ) lol.All in all it was wonderful and we highly recommend it you will not be disappointed . P,us a bonus we got to experience an earthquake.

We spent a wonderful week at Kent's Treetop Oasis: our name for his beautiful property. It truly is unique in its location next to Balboa Park and all that the Hillcrest neighborhood offers in shopping and restaurants. The extensive property is surrounded by mature tropical vegetation with green views from every window. You feel as if you're in a nature sanctuary, not in the heart of an active city. All the amenities of the generously-sized second level apartment (including sharp knives, reading lamps, books) show Kent's attention to details in hosting his guests. As this was a repeat visit to San Diego, we found ourselves relaxing more at the rental than we had expected. It invited a different pace as we enjoyed watching the MANY hummingbirds at the property's flowers and fountains. There are three outdoor seating areas from which to eat, read, relax, visit: a must for our rental choices. Any guests or potential guests should read the Owner information posted on the listing. It gives the story of Kent's work in creating what makes this rental unique and exceptional. We will certainly join his many repeat guests (30 and counting) should our plans bring us back to San Diego.

The location of this VRBO couldn’t be more perfect! The description of this amazing home is spot on, but truly, you have to see it to believe it—photos just don’t do it justice. Kent has created an incredible compound that offers both comfort and style, and he was an outstanding host. He was super attentive and available when needed, yet we had all the privacy we could ask for. His A recommendations for activities and restaurants made our stay even better. Kent went above and beyond to accommodate us in every way. Thank you, Kent! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in San Diego.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. Kent was a gracious host and gave us great recommendations for restaurants and places to see. The one bedroom apartment is spacious and comfortable. There are big windows everywhere so it is bright and cheery. The windows overlook the fantastic gardens that Kent has build over the years. Every view makes you feel like you are in a tropical paradise. The apartment was very clean and all the amenities we needed were provided. We hope to be back soon. It is the perfect resting spot for us when we visit family in San Diego. The proximity to Balboa Park is nice and being close to North Park and South Park neighborhoods is a big plus.

We couldn't have chosen any better place to get away from the Oregon gloom where we live. A beautiful, calming place with plants galore and right by Balboa Park! Our host was wonderful too and very helpful. We'll be back!
