Mariposa, California
Grace Oaks is a large rustic cabin for your retreat or getaway. Nestled in mountains, just a mile and a half from Mariposa, 'The Gateway to Yosemite National Park and decorated with the theme of the wildlife that roam nearby, you'll enjoy coming home to this retreat after a day in Yosemite, or Historic Mariposa. The home features a game room (pool table and foosball, wrap around deck, fire circle, TV, Books, Wifi, a fully functional kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, fireplace w/ insert. Nearby Mariposa and other historic towns like Coulterville, Hornitos, Bear Valley, the Mariposa museum, and the state mineral exhibit are fun to explore.
In the summer the town is alive with tourists, weekend 'Music on the Green' featuring local artists in a lovely park setting, occasional open air movies on the park lawn.
A fun time to visit is in the spring, when the falls in Yosemite are running. Mariposa has it's butterfly festival, and parade (usually the first weekend in May.) The poppies in the Briceburg canyon are breath-taking.
Fall is also wonderful; Starting with the Labor Day Parade and old fashioned Mariposa County Fair. I love the colors that come with the changing of the leaves, and the crisp air.
Winter is great, especially if we have a few snows! The Mariposa Christmas parade is usually the first weekend in December, as is the annual Christmas Craft fair. Yosemite offers some fun activities at the Ahwannee, as well as ice skating, and skiing, or it's always fun to drive there to see the Lord's majestic Creation. It's also fun to just relax at Grace Oaks... away from the hustle and on the porch and watch for deer (which I see here everyday,) wild turkeys, quail,& rabbits, while you enjoy a good book...( and I just saw a coyote there today.) Roast marshmellows around our fire circle, or hang out under the stars in our Jacuzzi.
Nothing beats a family Christmas away from the city. Get away and remember what a simple quiet CHRISTmas is really all about.
You can't beat the price... all these rooms and a kitchen for the same price of one little stuffy hotel room. What do you have to lose . ;)
Finally, there are outdoor surveillance cameras on the property.
Beautiful weekend retreat in Yosemite. 5 stars! Ken and Victoria are amazing hosts.
This place was pretty convenient for our day trips into Yosemite. It took us just a little over an hour to get to the Arch Rock entrance and just a little longer to get to the Wawona entrance and Mariposa Grove. We left at 7:00 each morning and didn’t have too much trouble with traffic getting into the park. We were very happy to have the four bedrooms and lots of beds since we were all adults and wanted to spread out a little. The host answered my messages quickly and was very responsive to our requests. We enjoyed the outdoor space! Great stay!
We loved our stay. House is very closed to Midpines for the rafting location. Hot tub was a great relaxing way... we loved the beautiful deck! House is spacious, well decorated. Few things can be improved such as upstairs bedroom ac vent. It was too loud. Dishwasher didn't run, so we ended up washing manually.
Family had a wonderful time at this place. We definitely recommend and will be back!!!
Awesome time exploring the fall colors in Yosemite, house was a welcoming place to come home to.
The 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Grace Oaks. The house is beautiful and Victoria quickly responded to any of my questions. It was a beautiful drive to Yosemite!
Pictures do not do this house justice. It is very cozy, well furnished and kitchen was stocked. We had a wonderful time. The pool table could use replacing as many rips and broken pieces, but we didn't use it anyways. Loved that there were toys and movies for the kids. We would stay here again.
We can’t thank Victoria & Ken enough. Our family needed this trip & how blessed we all were with what a miracle week it turned out to be. We all look forward to returning. God Bless! Frank & Yo Johnson & family
My nephew works for Shutterfly and thinks the photos don't give an accurate picture of how nice the place is. My family, all 3 generations, really enjoyed the house and all of its features.
We had a nice stay. The house is a little dated and definitely not fancy (reminds me of my grandparents), but many would find that homey and charming. It was extremely clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. You can’t beat the price for the amount of space. We were close to restaurants and stores and a reasonable distance from the park for daily visits. My only complaint was that it was a little hot and the house took a long time to cool our first night after arriving from a long day in the park. It was much more comfortable the second night. We only stayed a couple nights and unfortunately never had a chance to try out the hot tub or games.
