The property owners are an engineer and a journalist. The property was restructured by two highly respected Roman architects, who painstakingly completed a restoration (in 2009) of this beautiful & unique town-home in the medieval Tuscan hillside town of Cetona (ca 900 AD). The blend of location (in fabulous southern Tuscany and in a city also chosen by the Italian designer Valentino for his country villa) and style (a rare and exceedingly tasteful blend of ancient and modern) make thisa perfect retreat for the discerning traveler. The house is centrally located near Cetona’s main piazza, with its shops, stores, cafes and restaurants all within easy walking distance. The living room, dining room, bathroom and kitchen (fully equipped) are located on the ground floor. Also on the ground floor you will find a portion of the renovated tunnel that burrows through the Cetona hillside. During the renovation, the architects decided to wall off their portion of the tunnel for future use as a large wine cellar (see pictures). On the second floor you will find the master bedroom with a canopy bed, a full private bath with a modern bathtub carved into the rock, and an additional bedroom with two beds (all new mattresses, furniture and appliances throughout the home). Outside the front door, there is a small porch with a table and chairs where you can enjoy breakfast or a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

Picturesque Cetona is located in the Chianti region of Tuscany, in the province of Siena. Since the 1960s, Cetona has been a haunt of 'VIPs' who have bought and renovated farm properties in and around the city. There is much to do in and around the immediate area of Cetona. Only a short drive away, art lovers will find some of the most exceptional galleries and museums in the world. In the nearby towns of Chiusi, Città della Pieve, Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona, Perugia, Arezzo, Assis, Orvieto and Siena, history has left treasures from the time of Etruscans to the Reanaissance. And don't forget that from Cetona you can easily reach, by motor way in a little over an hour’s time, both Florence and Rome

Hikers, Riders, Bicyclists and Nature lovers will find footpaths and country roads that wind through hillsides and vineyards where they will discover hidden corners and breathtaking views. If it's sports you're after, there are sporting facilities in Cetona and surroundings. Nearby Trasimeno Lake offers a variety of water sports and don’t miss the ancient Roman baths at San Casciano, Bagno Vignoni and San Filippo, where you can take the therapeutic baths year-round in the natural hot water springs.

In the area around Cetona one of the oldest human settlements of central Italy has been discovered which goes back over 40,000 years and the remains of which can be seen in the delightful archeological park of Belverde and the 25 prehistoric caves. The finds are conserved in the museum devoted to the prehistoric period of Mount Cetona located on the ground floor of Cetona’s Town Hall, a museum which the experts have defined as 'didactically perfect'.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We had everything we needed there. It had little extras that made it so nice... robes, extra bedding, amenities to cook. We enjoyed our dinners and the town, from here it was a base for us to see lots of Tuscany. Besides the house feeling like home we also enjoyed the neighbors and housekeeper. For us it was perfect as we liked the quietness after staying in Naples... absolutely no complaints.

This place has everything you would want in a Tuscany stay. Gorgeous little village with several great restaurants, outstanding wine bar and ideal location to explore around. The apartment itself is even better than it shows in pictures. Two great living spaces to hang out not to mention the caves. The bedrooms are nice sized as is the bathroom. I would highly recommend this place for all the reasons stated and more.

Beautiful property in great location. We (family of five, with two children 18+) stayed for 6 nights and did day trips to Siena, Assisi, Florence, and Venice from this location. Also enjoyed the local scenery, restaurants, market, stores, and gelato! Wonderful city, would love to stay again and explore Cetona more! Bianca was super helpful with check in and any other questions we had during our stay!

Our stay in Cetona was superb! The house is exactly as described - beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We didn't meet Marco or Vanna as they were in Rome, but Bianca who looked after the property was delightful - nothing was too much trouble and she got back to us very quickly if we had any queries. Her mother Marcella lives opposite and was equally as friendly and helpful. Cetona is a fantastic village - we could get everything we needed within the town and it was fantastic to wander down to Piazza Geribaldi in the afternoons and sit and have a drink whilst watching the local people going about their business. The local people were also very friendly and accommodating of our very limited Italian. There are so many beautiful little towns in close proximity - we spent each day driving a few kilometres to discover yet another quaint and special little town - it was exactly what we wanted for our holiday. I would highly recommend both the property and the town.

La Macina - The house lived up to its billing and more. The set-up was perfect and the features in the house showed that a great deal of care had gone into its design. How may houses boast their own tunnel, or a brick lined arched ceiling in the kitchen. The house had a nice sized kitchen with just about everything you would need, and a very comfortable living room that was perfect for hanging out. The sleeping accommodation was ideal for three people and the rock faced bathtub was an interesting feature. We could not have asked for more from the house accommodations. Cetona was the perfect Tuscan hill town. Easily accessible by car. You can literally drive right up to the house to drop off your bags, as long as you are prepared to back all the way down again. The remote parking was very convenient and unlike many of the hill towns it was not a steep walk into the town. The parking lot was very close. The town itself is small but it has all the stores you need for daily shopping. Fresh bread everyday. Cheese tasting before you buy. Literally two liquor stores. A place for your morning coffee in the Square, and two very good restaurants. All within a two minute walk. Being able to walk to an excellent restaurant after a days touring was why we located here. Even though Cetona is not centrally placed in Tuscany, driving distances are short, and in the case of Florence there is a train station within 15 minutes drive. We highly recommend La Macina and Cetona.
