Stayed Jul 20, 2025If you are looking for a quiet, secluded and peaceful spot, this is the place! It’s right on the water and from the deck we saw cranes, bald eagles, dolphins, and terns. We also saw deer and wild turkey. I was looking for a place that had plenty of room and was dog friendly to celebrate my 60th. My husband, son, daughter, son in law, and I all enjoyed this hidden gem. Everyone remarked on what a great find this place was. It’s close to a cute little public beach and Perry’s where they prepare lobster caught right there. We enjoyed ice cream at Pugnuts, Irish food at Finn’s , great wood fired pizza and beer at a Fogtown brewery, both in Ellsworth. We traveled about 40 minutes to Acadia and went on the ocean walk and Cadillac mountain. We also explored Bar Harbor. Many happy memories were made at this place. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped, two recently upgraded bathrooms, and a grill. Highly recommend.

Stayed Sep 17, 2024John & I stayed for 10 days with visits from 2 other couples.. plus our dog. We loved it! Great house layout, well equipped kitchen, nice fireplace and a large deck overlooking the water. The property is amazing. Woods all around. Right on the water with a rocky beach for low tide walks. Our dog jumped in the water right away. It’s set back from the road so it is very private. Location gives you an easy drive to Blue Hill, Ellsworth and under an hour to Acadia. There is a really good Lobster Pound right down the road. If you bring bikes, it’s a nice ride down to get lunch. (The lobster bisque is excellent!) Host is easy to communicate with and very accommodating. This is a gem!

Stayed Jul 27, 2024An amazing property set in the woods along a gorgeous bay. Great modern cabin with a Marge tree covered deck abutting the bay. Within 30 minutes of Acadia and several other treasures of Maine. Highly recommend.

Stayed Jul 29, 2023This place was great, beautiful inside and out. On rainy days staying inside looking out at the view was very relaxing. We were close enough to enjoy Acadia National Park one day, go whale watching another. There were five of us in our group and there was plenty of space for everyone. We felt right at home.

Stayed Jul 22, 2023Our family of 5, including 3 grown and almost grown kids, had a wonderful time at this lovely house. The location was fantastic and the house was very comfortable. It's clearly a much loved place and I felt honored to be able to spend some time there. I really hope we'll make it back one day!

Stayed Jul 1, 2023We loved our stay at Marakanda. The property was wonderful, you are so close to the water and the views from every room and deck are perfect. The location was convenient for going into Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. Our stay was comfortable and the place has all the necessary amenities...we really felt like this was home away from home.

Stayed Jun 25, 2022Such a beautiful, peaceful property! The layout of the house if perfect with plenty of space for a family with kids of any age. It is well stocked with books, games, puzzles, and everything you could possibly need. The owners are quick to answer questions and very accommodating. In my opinion, the star of the show is the amazing deck overlooking the bay. We spent countless hours out there watching seals, fish jumping, herons, osprey, loons and eagles. We were able to have a canoe conveniently delivered right to the door by a local outfitter and picked up when we were leaving. I would recommend this property to anyone, and hopefully will be able to return myself!

Stayed Jul 20, 2019A simple but beautiful home with a wonderful backstory. We really felt we were in a special place. My artist brother appreciated the unique rustic yet clean modern look. The layout worked well for our large group. My favorite moments include having breakfast on the back deck with a refreshing view of the water, as well as the amazing colors of the early morning sunrise. Would highly recommend!

Stayed Sep 22, 2018We really enjoyed our time here! Spent hours on the deck, reading or just sitting listening to and watching the waves lapping the shore, as well as hours by the fire with jigsaw puzzles and more books (great selection of both at the house). Saw bald eagles and seals every single day, including a whole host of seals leaping in and out of the water, clearly playing around. Kayaked right from the house, which was a nice treat, and enjoyed bike-riding all the way to the end of Newbury Neck Road. The dogs had a fantastic time, too, walking on the property and along the beach, munching on dried crab shells. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the beds are the most comfortable we've ever had on vacation, which was a nice treat. The (very) nearby hikes at both the Furth Wildlife Sanctuary & Talalay Nature Sanctuary and the Carter Nature Preserve were a real treat, as was the fantastic hike in nearby Brooklin at the Harriman Point Preserve. Caretakers Lee Anne and Ron were super responsive when the power went out (area outage that was restored within the hour) and the house was clean and welcoming when we arrived. Add to that a gorgeous full moon and daily sunrise over the water ... perfect vacation. So great to call Marakanda home for two full weeks!
