This property is that rare rental find. You think twice about singing its praises, but it has too many merits to keep the place a secret. We loved it so much, we extended the rental period and many of our guests raved to us afterward that their stay in Kerhonkson was the highlight of their summer. The house is a comfortable, classic gem, a combination of elegant and simple that fits its mid-nineteenth-century origins. Just as remarkable are the sizable grounds and the siting of the property, which offers views of the Shawangunk Ridge and is well-shaded in large portions with an impressive variety of trees, right down to the towering catalpa in the front, right next to the old stone mounting block, certainly something you’re not going to see everyday. Being a relatively remote location, it’s not surprising that the local wildlife of all varieties are an active presence, not only the area’s healthy deer population but birds/raptors, horses on the nearby farms, frogs and koi in the ornamental pond, and occasionally at night you may hear the distant howls of another healthy population in the area, coyotes. Add to it all the pond next door for kayaking, the traditional stone smokehouse/outbuilding, the beautiful stone patio off the kitchen, and you’ll see why we and guests alike left this place raving about a great stay at a truly unique rental find.
