I do not usually write reviews but i feel others should know about this property. The listing is deceiving. There are numerous extra charges which double if not close to triple the price per night. Look at all the fine details in the billing before reserving this place. When first arriving here, the only entrance is through the garage. Now the place is a log cabin by water surrounded by trees. There are going to be bugs around, cant stop that. But once we opened that garage door, it was impossible to reach the entrance door without getting smothered by cobwebs. There obviously was little to no attempt to manage/control the bug problem in the garage. We started to unload everything in the cabin and when going to one of the bathrooms, there was a decent sized spider in the bathtub. Its a log cabin by water surrounded by trees. There are going to be your occasional bugs. We took care of the spider and went to bed. Woke up the next day to another decent sized spider above me on the ceiling. Took care of it and went on with our day. Things just got worse from there. Took a detailed tour of the place. There were mouse droppings inside the house and outside on the porch, traps in plain site, and more decent sized spiders. We had to purchase bug spray to deal with the situation. There are things that can be done to help control bugs in a location like that. It didnt seem anything was being done to manage that situation though. Definitely not worth 350/night.
Overall it was a good time. Definitely a few things to be updated but we survived lol.
The description of the house if very deceptive. Even using a 4 wheel drive vehicle will not get you to the garage on this house. No way to turn around. So parking is up and far away from the house. Out side ground around the house was very weedy. Easy access to beach front was actually treacherous. Steep steps down and steep steps back up to house. There is a grounds keeper living in the basement of this house so don't know how this meets what Vrbo is advertising. Can't say that staying at this house was good and don't recommend that it.
The deck is what makes a lot of things better...almost. First, let me say that all this would be perfectly fine IF the cost of renting this property was not atrocious...for what it is. Very late check in, early checkout so you already lose almost an entire day. Then, it's not that cleaned, the beds are horrible...you would imagine for that price they would upgrade the mattresses and pillow not to be the cheapest option possible. Another thing is I purposely searched for entire home but what you discover is that there's a suite downstairs that is rented so you are NOT alone in the property. Again, it would be good to know BEFORE you rented the place. Know that you do need a 4x4 vehicle to get there. The driveway is steep and pretty narrow, it was not maneuvering but that's not much of an issue just a heads up. Entrance is done by the garage, which is odd too. You are pretty remote from everything. Closest convenient store is small and already 20mn away and Shelton is at least 30-35mn away. Overall it's a nice location, the property is not worth the cost.
Good bones, dated but quite functional place we enjoyed for a weekend “shot” of south Sound relaxation at Hartstene. Western exposure, on gravel beach (low tide). Everything works, but bring your own spices/coffee/condiments and Bluetooth speakers. No WiFi but ok cell reception (Spotify/tunes). Kayaks (2) add fun. We brought SUP’s and put in at Jarrell’s Cove. We hiked on the island trails. Driveway requires some skill but not a problem (ideally AWD).
Lovely, comfortable home, beautiful antiques, well equipped, nice kitchen. A very nice place to get away.
The house was absolutely stunning! Very clean. Gorgeous architecture. The music and setting was what movie try to emulate. I loved it.
I loved the views and tree house fee of this home. I am surprised it has received negative reviews and glad that didn’t deter me from booking. It was a remote space to was so peaceful (I would bring everything you need, no close stores) and I was the only one as far as the eye can see on the beautiful, easily accessible beach. Thanks for sharing your oasis.
Gorgeous view! Wonderful location! We had a really good time with our friends and dogs walking at the beach. But One thing that made us disappointed is that only one shower was available, even there are two Bathrooms.
The home has serious potential but suffers from poor management. The private drive and surrounding area is stunning. That is all there is to say positive. There was construction material strewn about the property, swaths of wood planks, buckets, tools, etc. It was just a mess. Nevermind the fact there was another car in the drive. Assuming it was the cleaner, we drove around for an hour and came back. Still there. This is a home, right? No, it's not. It's a duplex. There is a(are) very creepy full-time tenant(s) living downstairs. I was greeted by the lady, who seemed high, as I drove up to the drive and interrogated about why I was there. It was one of the most uncomfortable minutes of 2022. Your entrance is in a shared garage with a couple of dingy, dirty laundry machines that you share with the downstairs. They have access to this at all times. It was a mess and had only 1 kayak. It also stank of mold. The inside was grimy everywhere and also stank of mold. It had a cold chill that went through the house at all times. Come to find, this is from a large hole leading to the exterior, covered by a wardrobe. It was frigid. We lit the fire just to keep warm. The design of the house is great, but it suffers from poor maintenance everywhere. It is not child-friendly. There was an exposed 4 - 5 wire with no caps in the dining lamp. The fireplace has a minute hearth and no grate to cover it. My toddler tripped over it and his hand hit the glass to catch his fall. He had a second degree burn that covered his entire palm for weeks. There are tables placed by railings in the upstairs bedrooms. But, most of all, the water is potentially dangerous. We went to run a bath in the jetted tub, which we had to clean before using. Just filthy. After the water filled, despite the very dim lighting, we saw the water was very dark. Turns out, it's orange. Whether pipes or a contaminated well, we don't know, but it was heavy with orange sediment. I wouldn't drink it, especially not the children. We stayed two days before cutting our stay short. Also noted the backyard is the neighbors' porch, so you would have to be walking past people if you even dared walk in that mess of a backyard. The path looks unsafe and there were more trash and construction materials thrown haphazardly about. I would not recommend this property at all.
When we arrived the electricity was out and the men in our group found the breaker box and that fixed the problem. The master bedroom toilet didn’t work. We bought a snake thing and unclogged the toilet it was better after that. The house is big very rustic and lots of fun Antiques with lots of lamps. Good place for a big family
