Four storey late 19th century village stone house with own swimming pool over, c.400 sq.m, five double bedrooms, two bathrooms 3 x /wc. Fully restored with white-washed walls, original terracotta floors and exposed chestnut beams. Large courtyards and full width new decking to lounge around the pool with incredible views. Lots of space for outdoor eating and chilling. Straight out the top gate for hillside paths leading to ancient villages. Ideal for mountain biking and hiking, or just a leisurely stroll. Well stocked Village shop just five minutes up the path.
Thick stone walls mean it’s cool in the height of summer. The village is a typical Italian hillside community, mostly quiet, but passing goatherds, farming as well as the usual hubbub of Italian village life. It’s also a very safe and welcoming environment and our guests don’t feel they have to be too precious, (especially good if you have younger kids). After nightfall the village is totally silent, devoid of light pollution so ideal for star-gazing and chasing fire-flies.
Area has loads of things to do: canoeing; white-water rafting; horse-riding; the Beach; zip-wires; factory-outlet shopping; wine-tours and tastings; beautiful historic towns like Lucca, Barga, Pisa, Florence, Montecarlo, Forti di Marmi, etc.

Sorry to say we felt let down by this Vrbo. The property could really do with a refurbishment. Only the top floor bathroom is in good condition. Most doors are sticky or don't close properly. The kitchen is dated and full of miscellaneous half-broken pans and pots, basic equipment only, makes it difficult to cook for large groups. Living room and kitchen were definitely not as nice as shown in the pictures. Pool was still closed, as communicated by the host, but other outdoor areas were also oversold by the pictures. We were staying with two toddlers and the house was challenging due to many stairs, lots of hazards, including e.g. toy beads littered under the sofa. Wouldn't recommend to stay here with small children. The area however is great, we loved the small quiet hamlet, there is a small playground nearby that the kids enjoyed, and the village store is easily reachable on foot in less than 5 minutes. Great hikes and activities nearby! Be aware that it does take quite a while to drive up from Bagni di Lucca, so if you want to do things in the wider area you will spend quite a bit on that narrow, sloping road up the mountain.Unfortunately our host didn't give us any concrete recommendations even after specifically enquiring about it. There is also no guest book with information about the house or the area. Given the amount of money spent on thsi stay we had expected a higher standard.

We had a wonderful holiday in Peter and Suzy's wonderful, authentic village house. It was very clear that it was a private home that we were visiting. Thank you 1000 for sharing this paradise with us. There were 10 of us and there was plenty of room for all of us in the house and on the house's terraces. Huge kitchen with all imaginable equipment. Lots of towels and bed linen and fine parasols on the terraces. The house is a real old village house and the construction is beautiful to admire. The ceilings are amazing! Peter was quick to answer questions and help. There had been a large storm in the area shortly before our arrival, leaving the entire town without internet. However, it came occasionally during the 14 days we stayed in the house. In fact, we all enjoyed being free from screens and there was plenty to experience. The evenings were spent playing guitar on the terrace, playing cards and playing in the pool. There are lots of fantastic walking routes between the villages and a lovely little grocery store 300 meters up the path behind the pool area. The place is not for the disabled or people who do not enjoy peace, quiet and an authentic, beautiful Tuscan mountain village. It's the true kind of luxury vacation that you won't want to leave. We will definitely be back!

We had an amazing time in Peter's place mostly enjoying the outdoor spaces and doing short walks to the grocery store nearby. The location is great for day trips to Pisa, Lucca and Viareggio. Only things we'd change are the cleanliness which was mostly okay, but the place could use a deep clean, and 2-3 mattresses should be replaced for better comfort.

From the initial contact through to the conclusion of our holiday, Peter was an excellent host. We celebrated a week in the Tuscan Mountains with friends and family from around the world and the property more than met our expectations. A well stocked kitchen, airy bedrooms and loads of space to relax , the Villa was ideal for our get together. Upon Peter’s recommendation we hired Roy and Shirkey from the village B&B to prepare a superb al fresco lunch. Magnificent food and wine were a plenty!! The pool provided a great addition for all ages as our party ranged from teenagers to grandparents. If it is the real Italy you want then this is the place. Thank you.

The house provided us with the perfect base for our family holiday in Tuscany. It is incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen, so we thoroughly enjoyed living there for a week with our children & 2 small grandchildren. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful & we enjoyed lovely walks through the blossoming woods behind the house. The advice provided by the owner Peter before our holiday was tremendously useful & his recommendation to enjoy a meal made by a local chef was much appreciated. Last, but not least, the cd collection at the house is brilliant - hours of enjoyment.

11 of us ranging in age from 5 to 65 had the most fabulous holiday in this beautiful, relaxing place. The villa is truly rustic with a warm and comfortable feel to it, so well equipped and part of a lovely local community in the Tuscan hills. Days were spent relaxing round the pool, walking through the woods or driving into Bagni for a mooch about the local shops and a spot of lunch. Evenings were a feast of local goods cooked on the bbq and accompanied by glorious wine and late night swims or card games. A birthday was celebrated in style at one of the local restaurants one evening, day trips by train to Pisa and Lucca were easy even with the youngest traveller. Weather was great, odd thunder storms in the afternoons that only lasted an hour or so, then back to the sun. We were so sad to leave this wonderful place, think there will be a return visit in a few years time......

Peter is a very open and supportive host. He solved every problem we had immediately. Thank you Peter. We had a wonderful relaxing and adventurous stay at Peter's house. The whole village and Peter's house has a lot of charme. You can feel all the history. And the nature around is very impressive. We spent a lot of time at the house, the woods, and the places around because there is a lot to discover. We also enjoyed the fresh breeze coming from the woods. Especially for the kids and our dog it was enough to enjoy:) We can also recommend the markets with fresh food from the region for a good price. Better than the supermarkets! The house is perfect for people who enjoy a rustic lifestyle and are happy to wake up with the rooster.

Booked this as a family of seven plus small child and we just loved it.Wanted to be a part of true Italian style village life up in the mountains(despite the regular trips up and down the mountainside to town on the edge of my seat!)Nothing to disappoint here, even though the weather turned for us!We sat out every night late into the evening and even had a dip or two in the pool which was a trifle fresh owing to the cooler weather!Loved preparing the evening dinner in the spacious fully equipped kitchen, somehow not a chore there. As soon as we hit uk we were already missing the house, the village and Tuscany!Got to go back next year.

We had a very pleasant stay in Peter's house. This is a very charming house surrounded by charming villages. Lucca is a city that we love and is not too far from Gomberetto. This is a perfect place for BBQ, enjoying the pool in a perfect landscape in toscane. Peter is pleasant and helpful. We loved that journey.
