Stayed Jul 6, 2025As wonderful as the photos of this house might be, they simply cannot do justice to the exquisite beauty of this location. It's right on a tranquil river that runs below the medieval ramparts of this quaint Burgundian country town. The house is meticulously maintained, and there are five separate little terraces or balconies where you can sit and gaze at the scenery from slightly different angles -- off the main bedroom, two down below the guest room, just before the house, or atop a little set of stone steps. The town of Semur is wonderful (though small, so don't expect a million dining options) and well-placed for many easy day trips of 20-60 minutes (Vezelay for a medieval pilgrimage basilica; Montbard to bike ride along the Burgundy Canal; Flavigny-sur-Ozerain for another quaint village; and many others). An idyllic spot!

Stayed Sep 17, 2024This place is exactly as advertised and the experience is of living in an old French house in a village where time passes very slowly. The living room has windows all around and a lovely place to just sit and enjoy listening to the birds and watching the river meander by. The bedroom has a nice balcony and a window that overlooks the river. Bathroom is good as is the shower. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. The welcome basket and cheese was a lovely touch. We picked up everything for breakfast at the local boulangerie and the Intermarche store had everything else. There are some amazing restaurants in town as well. Note that you do have to climb up a few steps to get to the bedroom so this may be a problem if you have mobility issues. The village itself is something out of a fairytale. Walk across the bridge next to the house, turn right, and walk to the end for the best view of Semur.

Stayed Jun 29, 2024This is a slice of wilderness (rambling pink granite terraces flowing gently into the river) with views that are as varied as they are private. It really is as you imagine from the descriptions but better, blended with your own experiences. The decor inside is functional if a little dated (clearly a work in progress) but anyone can see and enjoy its enormous potential. The sort of house that everyone who stays there can project their own ideas on because the location (its connection to Semur) and setting (that slice of wilderness) are so strong.

Stayed Nov 21, 2023What a lovely little place!! This spot was just perfect for a girls trip getaway. The town is adorable and all the locals were very kind and patient with our poor French. The house itself is soooo cute and cozy with amazing views from each window. Had everything we could have needed. Laundry and dryer all worked great. Hot water and good water pressure. It is a very special place and was perfect for us. I will note, because it wasn’t totally clear to me from the listing, that the bedroom with the twin beds is accessed from the exterior of the house, so you have to use the outside stairs to get to the bedroom from the rest of the house. This wasn’t a problem for us though. We loved our time here!

Stayed Aug 22, 2023Our month-long vacation at the Simmons home in Semur-en-Auxois couldn't have been more perfect. The house was so comfortable, the setting by the river so idyllic, the neighbor so friendly, the communication so quick, the welcome basket of goodies so thoughtful. I couldn't give higher praise. You will love your time spent here! Thank you, Simmons (and Jackie!)

Stayed Jul 29, 2023Location right at the riverbank is gorgeous. Dinner right next to the river was very nice. Often sat there until the bats came out. There was a starter pack of groceries waiting for us, which was great. Didn't have to go on a shopping spree on the day of our arrival. The separate downstairs bedroom is not a perfect scenario for a family with smaller kids, since you are quite detached. But there is a sleeping couch in the living room, so we could stay in the main house together. Bathroom and kitchen were well equipped.

Stayed Dec 21, 2022There are not enough superlatives to describe how wonderful it is to stay in this quintessentially French gite. This is our second stay here (four weeks last fall and two over Christmas this year) and we are already planning on coming back. The house itself has everything one needs to be comfortable: modern appliances, homey fireplace, good heating system, warm, well-appointed kitchen, welcoming beds (we only used the upstairs bedroom this time) and house managers who are very responsive. To really appreciate what you are getting when you rent this property you have to look beyond the four walls of the house. Out of every window is the cutest view ever. The cul de sac is quiet and set back from the road. La Minime, a special, affordable restaurant is a 3-minute walk. Semur-en-Auxois, a ten minute walk, has the feel of a small village but has everything you would want: wine shop, boulangerie, epicierie, specialty boucherie, fun little bistros and a great Sunday market. Dijon and Beaune, both filled with eye-popping sights and culinary finds are only 50 minutes away. The famous wine villages (think Meursault, Pommard, Santenay, Aloxe Corton and more) beyond Beaune are worth a visit. We give our highest recommendations to the little cottage at 6 Impasse Caron. If you stay here you will love it.

Stayed Sep 4, 2021This is a beautiful little house on a lazy river a short walk outside of the quintessentially medieval French town, Semur-en-Auxois. We travel to France a lot and, in our experience, this is the best house in the best region, ever. It is well maintained, has big kitchen with a fireplace (did I mention romantic?), nice bed and comfortable bathroom. From every window there is the most fantastic view. Being on a short “impasse” (no outlet) there is no road noise. We were here a month and explored all of Burgundy from this home base: the great wine villages in Cote de Nuit and Cote de Beaune, Chablis, natural wonders in the nearby Jura, amazing archeological sites and lots of the-cutest-ever French villages. This is also a great house to just take a day to relax. A great Sunday market and a full kitchen means cooking in is always an option. We just can’t say enough good things about 6 Impasse Caron. It is well managed and the owners, Jerry and Kathy, were so nice and helpful. Just one word about Semur-en-Auxois. It has everything and still maintains its old-world charm. Lots of nice places to eat and sites to see right in this unique and special village. An Intermarche’ (supermarket) is close by on the edge of town so all of the living essentials, gas and bottle recycling (you’re going to need that if you stay here) are all close. We highly recommend this lovely little “gite” and will be retuning ourselves as soon as we can. Mike and Nancy, San Diego, CA
