This property is far beyond described, it is part of an amazing part of Flat Rock N.C history. This estate should be appreciated for its amazing walkable , enjoyable privacy. Best part, The host, are by far the most accomodating of anyone we have ever dealt with. This family went so far out of there way on Christmas eve, to accommodate my family it will never be forgotten. They were, meaning , the owner , his grand daughter, and all of there resources with a si gle call. This will be our go to if they allow . The story here is , Amazing property,Amazing Host, equals amazing getaway. Cant wait to revisit in April. Thanks for everything.
This is the second time we have stayed at this property. It is a great location with easy access to the surrounding attractions. The property has lots of room to roam and you can even access Carl Sandburg National Historic Site via a trail on the back side of the lake. It was a little wet on Saturday, but we still managed to play some pickleball on the tennis court. We will definitely be back for a third stay in one of the three houses that are available on this property.
Out of all the cabins I have rented in the mountains this one really worked well for us! God Bless!
My family had a great time at Idlewild. The house has so much personality and is perfect for a family gathering. The location is convenient to downtown Hendersonville and the surrounding orchards. My girls loved building sand castles down at the lake, fishing, and even splashing in the chilly water. We played tennis and enjoyed the swings. The trails connect to Carl Sandburg for a beautiful hike and animals to pet for the kids. Be sure to check out the Flat Rock Bakery, walking distance from the house. Lizzy was responsive and gracious when we needed her, and we appreciate the family sharing their family home with us. We hope to return again next year!
Our family and 2 dogs enjoyed our stay most of the time. The house is really close to another house on the property and another house behind us had construction going on about 150 feet from our house. On Friday, another family with 5 dogs came in and we did not get to cook out or walk on the property. We left on Saturday and all the dogs were off-leash and one jumped on me while loading my car and one ran up and growled at me. Other than that, the property was very nice, the hostess was nice, our house was clean and the land was beautiful. If you want privacy, make sure you have a better understanding than we did.
The best part of cosy cottage was the property where it was located. With lush, mature trees and pants, we enjoyed sitting on the screened porch listening and observing the birds and fireflies at dusk. A wonderful change from Florida!
Very much enjoyed our stay. Convenient to Hendersonville, but spacious and beautuful property. Nice hike access to the Sandburg estate meant that we could have excursions without driving anywhere.
We have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals on our travels of Western NC and this one was by far the best property. The location, Flat Rock, is a short drive from Florida, which made is a great base camp. The property, 28 acres, was a bonus, with a pond, tennis court (pickle ball) and trails that connect this property to the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site trails. There are three houses on the property, Main House, Lake House and what I would call the Hunting Lodge, which is where we stayed. The Lodge was perfect size for three adults and the fireplace was a big hit for the chilly nights. We will definitely be back.
This is our second stay at Idlewild. We had another wonderful stay. The house is cozy and quiet. The acreage is great if you have kids and/or dogs. We highly recommend this property.
