HISTORY:
The Flying Caballos Ranch was originally owned by the Alfred Madonna family in the early 1900's and encompassed several hundred acres, operating as a dairy farm. The Madonna's grew their own vegetables, vineyard, and orchard. They hunted deer and fished for salmon, all on the ranch. Currently, the ranch consists of approximately 100 acres with horse and cattle grazing, a year-round creek, and unobstructed views of Edna Valley and Islay Hill.
This is a unique place to stay, quiet and out of the way. The listing should say that it is for 2, instead of 2-4, however. There is only one bed and the pullout couch was broken.
This studio is just what a single woman needs for a tranquil getaway. The bed is very comfortable and the kitchen has a stove, oven, and refrigerator. The windows are updated and easy to open and close. A view of hills and vineyards in the distance can be seen while in bed. Beautiful country setting and easy driving distance to downtown SLO.
Adorable little farmhouse studio, close to the airport that was so much nicer to stay at than a hotel. Sarah was a pleasant, responsive host and greeted us when we pulled in. Would definitely stay here again, when we’re back in SLO!
Nice cottage in a great location. Has the potential to be a real 5 star location, but with our experience of “fighting” with ants daily and the run down condition of a few of the items in the room, we can’t say we had a 5 star experience. The property manger was responsive in telling us where to find ant spray and dropped off ant bait traps per my request (didn’t want to spray chemicals with our young children and dog on this trip). That said, every day of our 4night/5day trip was a battle with the ants, as they were coming from a new location (primarily the bathroom and one window/sill). She also indicated that this issue happened in the hotter months, but telling me after I get to the property instead of putting this information in the original post on the VRBO site for the property is not the best way to communicate this issue (in my opinion). That said, the location of the property was great to be able to enjoy SLO and the surrounding area (highly recommended the Zip Lining in Santa Margarita). The space was ample for our family of 4 and our dog to still make the best of it. The cottage and overall property have a lot of charm and if it get a little TLC it would definitely be back to its 5 star potential
This charming property felt like a country stay but was also very conveniently located. Our dog loved it, too!
The Flying Caballos Guest Ranch in SLO is magnificently peaceful, and while it is conveniently close to town the property feels like a remote pastoral hide-away. Classic Central California!
Perfect place us for a quick trip to SLO. The property was amazing and the studio very comfortable. We will def be back!
Cute location and property.
The cottage was a perfect place for us! Our dog loved the fenced yard, we had an adorable spot to relax after adventures in SLO and the view is breathtaking! Very convenient to downtown. Will stay here again when visiting my son at school.
We enjoyed our stay at the studio. The unit was very clean, with a beautiful view, and dog friendly! It would be better to stay in one of the larger units for a long stay since the kitchen in the studio is very limited, lacking a microwave. Although the yard is fenced, a determined dog could easily escape, especially when he sees all the tempting ground squirrels!
