Encinitas, California
Our home is unique: an abundance of windows brighten each room; solar panels power central air conditioning; recent upgrades provide a contemporary air; and its triangular floor plan makes for interesting architectural angles. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood of family homes west of Coast Hwy in Leucadia and within a two minute walk of Stone Steps Beach Access. Close by are the more public Moonlight Beach, complete with snack bar, bathrooms, and showers, and the well known Beacon's Beach for great surf. Grandview, Ponto, D Street, and Swami's Beaches are a short drive away.
The main (second floor) of our home is the gathering area for family and friends with kitchen, living room, dining area, and 2 decks. The living room features a glass and gas fireplace with custom cement hearth, inviting seating, and a flat screen TV. One sofa folds out to a remarkably comfortable queen bed. The kitchen has custom cabinets with birch burl veneers, quartz countertops, and new appliances. One deck has a new gas barbecue and the other deck, located at the point of the house's triangle, is for enjoying meals outside.
This floor also has a full bath, and two bedrooms, each furnished with a queen bed. One bedroom has a flatscreen TV and a desk with printer for your convenience. The bath has custom a granite countertop and a glass tiled tub/shower combination.
The upper floor opens to the master suite. The bedroom is furnished with a king sized bed with tempurpedic mattress, a flat screen TV, and features a patio on either side. The master bath has a soapstone countertop, a large shower with tile and beach rocks, and, again, custom cabinets.
The bottom floor houses the two car garage. You will also find beach toys, chairs, and an umbrella, and finally, the washer and dryer. The bottom floor also houses a studio with a separate entry. The owners use it for an overnight stay now and then; otherwise, it is empty.
Leucadia abounds in great coffee houses and restaurants. Closest and within easy walking distance is the well known Pannikin's for coffee, delicious baked treats, and breakfast and lunch items housed in the old Leucadia Train Station. Vigilucci's for fine dining is also within 3 blocks of our home. In fact, Leucadia is the perfect small, casual beach town with the added attractions of great new locations for dining, handmade ice cream, and baked goods to satisfy any need for a sugar fix. It's all so perfect, you may forget to visit great local attractions, including Legoland, the Del Mar Race Track, San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, and the fabulous Balboa Park with its museums and theaters! Maybe next trip.....
Our second stay. Great house, clean, comfortable beds, accurate listing details. Location is super close to Stone Steps beach!
The house and it’s location - with its amenities beach towels, wave boards etc was fantastic for a week at the beach.
Very cool house, much larger than you realize from the outside. At least two beaches are walkable and many restaurants. The hosts left great info about the area and lots of beach toys, towels, boogie boards, etc
We had 2 kids and 4 adults, everyone was very comfortable and the location was great!
Everything about this place was amazing. I rented it due to it’s advertised “one block from the beach”. Unfortunately, due to the storms this year, that beach access is closed. Check with owners to see when it will be opened. (The next beach access is a half mile walk from the rental).
We had a great stay! Property is perfectly located and close to everything.
Best prepared home we’ve stayed in, with the most comfortable beds, the best nights sleep and an enjoyable kitchen; and we’ve stayed in some similarly priced and marketed homes. Definitely a short walk to the beach and the charms of Encinitas. The dune that Neptune Ave runs on blocks the sights and the sounds of the ocean.
We had a lovely stay. Accurately described, super close to the beach, clean, comfortable beds. We loved it! Thank you.
The property was perfect! Exactly as pictured. A great area, short walk to Stone Step beach to watch the sunset every night became one of the trip highlights. Close enough to walk to many restaurants as well. Owners/property manager was very responsive to the one issue we had. The house was just perfect for our family. The beach equipment was the icing on the cake, my young adult kids loved it! Being that my kids are all young adults, finding time for all of us to be together is rare, so this trip was special for us & having this great place to stay really enhanced our trip!
Really enjoyed our stay here!
We loved being able to walk easily to beach, have two patios to sit out and read. Decor is tastefully done. Agent very responsive.
Family vacation with my adult children. 6 adults stayed very comfortably. We cooked a lot in and the house was well equipped and accommodated all of us well. The location is perfect for beach access and into town on bikes or walking.
Ideal location in a beautiful home. Sincerely a pleasure!
We had an awesome time staying here. The home was very clean, comfy beds, great location and the host was super responsive. The family room offers a nice gathering area and the having use of the garage was fantastic for us to store our bikes. Thank you!
We were looking for a nice place to stay for our family of seven near the beach and we found it in this home. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to another stay in the future.
The location was great-very near stone steps and the beach below. the property was spotless and well equipped. We would surely book here again.
Our stay in Encinitas was great. Nikki was extremely responsive from the very beginning which added to our stay. Could walk to a great surf beach that wasnt crowded, good coffee house and several restaurants. The place itself was large and sunny. Jeff and Shari
A unique triangular floor plan and an abundance of windows flooding the main floor with light made our stay memorable and delightful. The quiet neighborhood of family homes and the proximity to the beach added to our experience. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property.
The home and location are awesome. Family of 5 with kids 9, 7 and 4. This neighborhood is really special with literally-just-around-the-corner access to Stonesteps Beach (and sunset viewing every night), a 15-20 minute walk through the neighborhood (or along the beach at low tide) to Moonlight Beach, and a trickle of families/joggers/cyclists/surfers/skateboarders passing through. Lot of life around, but quiet too. The home is bright, clean, comfortable and fun. We had an awesome time here. Few things to note that people might be considering based on the photos: You're on a corner so it could feel like a bit of a goldfish bowl, but it didn't bother us, and there are blinds on every window for a bit more privacy. There's no enclosed/fenced/gated yard and road essentially all the way around the property, so have to keep an eye on younger kids. It's not fast traffic or all that busy, so fine for our 7- and 9-year-olds, but had to keep an eye on our 4-year-old at times. The kitchen is small with a compact dishwasher and a bit of a hodgepodge of cookware, dinnerware and utensils, but nothing that slows you down too much. Recommend Pannikin for coffee/breakfast/brunch, Birdseye Kitchen for Thai, Haggos Tacos for Mexican, Corner Pizza for...pizza, and Leucadia Liquor for booze. All walkable (some more than others) or very short drive/pickup. Plus everything else that Encinitas and Leucadia has to offer, of course.
I have rented VRBO properties over several years and this one was the best by far. The property was clean with lots of windows to let in in the light, enough furniture to be comfortable with no excess, location was superb (close to beach and restaurants), and I had friends just down the street. We did not do any cooking; but had we, the dishwasher would have been inadequate. I could only find one dish towel. The property manager was very prompt in resolving the one little problem that my grandchildren created. I hope to come again next year.
Great location! It felt like a home away from home. Huge master suite with a king bed and balcony is a major luxury. Ability to do laundry before leaving is great. Only complaint is the kitchen utensils leave a bit to be desired, but that's not uncommon in a vacation rental. I get you don't want your good knives getting ruined by everyone, but it's hard to cut anything with a dull knife.
