El Prado, New Mexico
This 2800-square-foot, 2 story, 3 bedroom, 3 bath home was completely remodeled in 2013 and just this year have installed new exterior and interior doors, a new covered entrance, new lighting in kitchen and baths, recently fully operational windows were installed which enhances the entire south side of the home, allowing that cool Taos breeze to flow right on through!! You will find Casa Contenta located on the highest bluff in an area just 3/10 of a mile north of the old blinking light (junction of Hwys 522 & 150, which is the road to the Taos Ski Valley.)
The home’s layout offers a spacious interior while providing unique separation for two couples/families. All bedrooms are located on the ground floor but the two main bedrooms are located on the opposite ends. The remaining ground floor consists of yet another bedroom offering three twin beds and a window banquette. Yet, this floor offers even more. Designed solely for kids or the young at heart, the map area displays old antique maps, children’s puzzles and games, along with an array of video games, all complemented by one very large banquette that can easily accommodate seating for the entire family or sleep comfortably two kids.
The upstairs has a panoramic view through numerous windows and a spacious deck for the morning coffee or evening cocktails, designed openly from the kitchen which allows the dining & living rooms to flow evenly to nurture the truly amazing views of the mountains and valley sunrises and sunsets. Recently, we added a swamp cooler with a thermostat to control the temperature that will help keep our guests cool in even the warmest days.
The kitchen has been upgraded, too, with brand new appliances and is equipped to accommodate an extravagant dining experience or a simple cup of “joe”. The dining table seats comfortably six, while the living room coffee table may accommodate three others who desire to be inspired by a little DishTV while dining.
The home is very unique and is decorated in the true Taos tradition, from vigas accenting each ceiling, complemented by ceiling fans in the main bedrooms, to the saltillo tile and wood floors adorned by antique and Persian hand-made rugs, with distinctive antiques, as well as original and hand-made art that has been collected over the years and placed tastefully throughout the house. Along with old adobe straw stucco, there are also vibrantly painted walls which allow those who may not be so inspired at home to experience Taos’s true legacy of passionate colors in an everyday setting.
This home has a wonderful, serene setting and yet is only a few minutes from all Taos has to offer...great restaurants, shops and many world class outdoor winter and summer activities.
Casa Contenta welcomes you to explore the Taos experience. We’re encouraged that once you're here, you won't want to leave.
We only use plant-based, non-scented cleaning products throughout the home.
Although this area is extremely quiet and peaceful, for those desiring a further sense of security, the home is equipped with extensive outdoor lighting, along with outdoor Ring cameras for your safety day and night.
The house can accommodate up to six adults, but please read the further description so you can decide if the layout is appropriate for your group. When you walk in the front door, there is a queen bedroom to your left. If you were to go straight, there is a staircase leading upstairs to the kitchen, dining, living, 3/4 bath and the upstairs deck. From the front door if you were to go straight, you would find a full bath. If you took your next right, you would see the map room, with the banquette seating area and the laundry room across from the map room. Continuing on, you will go down two steps into the twin bedroom which contains two twin beds and a smaller-than-a-twin bed. Walking across that room you will encounter a door which enters right into the master bedroom which has its own full bathroom attached to it. In order to get out of the master bedroom, you must either walk through the twin bedroom or you can use the door exterior door found in the master bedroom and use the outside stairs to access the upper floor. It is a little unusual and works for some and not others, but we like to describe it for you so there are no surprises.
We stayed at this house for our trip to the Taos Ski Valley. TSV was approximately 25-30 minutes drive from the house. The house was very comfortable and the location was good.
Beautiful yet practical. We discoverd something new everyday. It's spacious and the pictures do not do it justice. So many places inside and outside to use. We felt so fortunate to have found this place. Tranquil, colorful, and fun. Location was perfect. Thank you for sharing this place!
We loved everything about this property! The upstairs patio was probably our favorite part. But I can’t think of one thing we didn’t like about it. Plenty of room, owners responded quickly to messages. Neat, clean, wonderful decorative touches. We didn’t want to leave!
This house is fabulous! Spacious and clean with beautiful art in EVERY room. The views are spectacular! Our host gave very clear directions. We will definitely be back!
This unique property provides a glimpse into the unique style of Northern New Mexico. We loved the interior of the house and its unusual layout. Everything about it was fun! The beds and furniture were comfortable and we had plenty of room. The only problem we had was finding the code to the front door which was kind of buried in the welcome packet we received. Thanks for a great weekend!
Casa Contenta was the perfect place for our family's trip to Taos! Beautifully and thoughtfully decorated in a truly whimsical fashion. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make a great meal. My favorite part about it was a fully open-concept upstairs living area with windows in every direction that opened to allow fresh cross breezes of fresh mountain air. The views from the deck were breathtaking. The location was wonderful as well, close to the Gorge Bridge, the road to Taos Ski Valley, or to Taos itself. The only word of caution I would note is that one of the two main downstairs bedrooms does not have a door, but rather only a cloth divider to separate it from the hallway. It is a beautiful room and worked perfectly for our daughter, but is worth being aware of for those who want full privacy. In all though, this is a gem that we would gladly return to.
we thoroughly enjoyed this well equipped and roomy home. the only thing that would have made it better is doors instead of the curtains on some of rooms — so the toddler could sleep better when the oldsters were used in the night.
Wonderful. Can’t say enough good things. Will go back for sure!!
Stan and Terry's place is beautiful, spacious, clean and perfectly located: close enough to town and to Taos Ski Valley to be convenient, but far enough to be able to enjoy a little more quiet. The house is very comfortable and extremely well-appointed, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Terry has added a ton of extra touches (like relaxing bath salts and an amazing latte maker) that make a visit that much more special. Terry and Stan are absolutely awesome and went way out of their way to make us feel welcome. We've stayed in a lot of rentals over this trip, but Stan and Terry were the only hosts who made us feel like family. We can't wait to return!
We can not say enough about this gem of a property! From the kind host to the amazing views and expansive courtyard we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The kids loved exploring all the art unique Knick knacks from around the world. We highly recommend this property if you are planning a trip to New Mexico!
