Stayed Jul 25, 2025From check-in to check-out this place felt like home from me and my buddies who made the trip from 5 hours away to stay for 5 nights at the McKays Lakehouse. Everything in the house was clean, available/working and the host was extremely quick to respond to my messages and also just to check in on us. Towels were provided, beds were comfortable and the big flat screen is nice to watch some movies on before you call it a night.Waking up and seeing the view from the front balcony was something like no other, if you’ve never been to the hill country. Extremely close to the lake, hiking trails and also both the Guadalupe river & The Comal river. Restaurants In the area were all great, and also made us feel like we weren’t far from home. Coffee shop(s) were right down the road to the place, along with a grocery store and multiple places to stop by and visit. San Antonio is a 50 minute drive away, and Gruene is a must see town (30 minute drive). If you want a place in a town where you will feel welcomed, at home and treated extremely well by both the host and the community, the McKays Lake House and Canyon lake will not sell you short.5 STARS

Stayed Jun 13, 2025Beautiful views, a well kept property and comfortable accommodations were what we found. The kitchen was really only missing baking sheets but had a surprising amount of spices so it evened out. Sitting out on the deck for the evening meal enjoying the stunning view more than made up for lack of hot water and the cold showers that inevitably go with it. The owner was very responsive to the issue of the broken water heater, tried to fix it but had to replace it. We, on the other hand, got a partial refund without asking. Were it not for the cold showers, this would've been 5 stars but....nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.....
