Captain's Mansion 8bdrm/18guests vacation gem steps to beach

Came to Virginia Beach for a wedding so that was our main objective but easy access to beach which was perfect for our free time. Only disappointment to me was the poor condition of the grills and size. For a place that accommodates 18 people grills should be better.

Loved everything about it!

Plenty of space (we had both sides). Having access to beach chairs and coolers made our lives so much easier. The walk to the beach was quick and easy, and even the tiny kids we had with us didn't mind it.

Property had everything that was needed. A broom and dustpan would have been helpful for sand and other small messes, but other than that it was perfect!

The property was spacious and in a great location for our group of 14. The private beach was amazing! We rented both sides of the duplex, which was convenient as they share a backyard. One unit had a non-functioning refrigerator, but the owner responded promptly. After confirming it couldn't keep food cold, he replaced it the next day. Which required us to have to buy several bags of ice to keep food cold. Unfortunately, the dryer in the same unit also wasn't working and needed replacement, which took an additional two days. Moreover, the cleanliness of the house was disappointing with wrappers under the beds in both units and hair throughout the bathrooms. We also encountered ants on the kitchen counter and were startled by large rats along the backyard fence at night. Although the outside garbage cans were initially full and smelly, they were emptied within two days (still smelly though). We informed the owner about all the issues. He thanked me and mentioned he would meet with the cleaning company. However, he didn't take any further action, nor did he offer to refund any fees. I would recommend staying here, but I would advise checking if he has replaced his cleaning company.

The property worked extremely well for our families - the two living areas allowed everyone plenty of space and allowed for different groups to enjoy different things. The patio out back was large enough for our entire party to congregate. There were nice amenities for the beach that we used and the house had everything we needed. We had a minor issue, which couldn’t have been prevented, and the home owner not only responded to our message, but showed up within the hour to address it. Great property and great service.
