Clean, quiet, and a very nice place for a dog (leashed in our case). I loved the fact that it was difficult to hear highway sounds, music being played, or noisy people....we heard and saw deer, beavers, a couple of grebes and some geese. We also heard coyotes and owls when we sat outside by the table fire. The weather was colder that we would have liked, but house was nice and cozy.We are seriously considering returning during warmer weather to enjoy the ponds more between kayaking and fishing when the weather is good.

The solitude is what first struck us. We were surrounded by nature. There was plenty of space inside and out. With the view of the ponds from upstairs and downstairs, we could easily see wildlife like egrets, owls, and deer. The inside was clean and had a cute nautical theme. We enjoyed kayaking and even used the paddleboat that was there. The fire pit, gas grill, and tabletop gas grill for s'mores helped us enjoy the property even more. They even had s'more makings ready for us! There were a couple hiccups but the owners were easy to contact and resolved them. The only improvement we can suggest is to improve the curb appeal. The departure instructions were easy to do and didn't make our leave notably longer. If a 4.5 were possible, that's what we would have given them.

My family was looking for a place to hide out from fireworks and let the pups swim!! The house was just what we needed. We heard a few fireworks mainly off in the distance so the pups weren’t overly bothered by them. The two bigger dogs loved playing in the pond and going for rides on my paddle board and the littles got to enjoy all the new smells! We didn’t catch any fish but we tried. Overall a perfect place to hideaway.

Beyond outstanding! Every single thing was thought of, from labeled light switches, to a s’mores station, beautifully maintained property and so clean! Also, the proximity to Wildcat State Park was only 8minutes away and we could not believe the amazing hiking offered! We cannot wait to return!!!

Neat little cabin with plenty of space. We were all able to sleep in our own beds while we were in the are for Christmas. The fish tank was a hit with my kiddos.

This home had everything you could want and attention to detail was not missed. The pond and fishing were fun. Pretty sunsets and 2 living spaces. Complete kitchen with dishwasher (which I do not think was in the description). Sleeps 8 needs to be clarified as there were 2 BRs with Queen beds (very nice) and 1 BR with 2 loft/top bunk twins and a lower bunk double. A great kids bedroom but not real adult friendly for 4 more adults. We made it all work by sleeping on couches and had a great time.

Lovely place to stay during Harvest. If you have allergies bring you medication. Everything was good but there was an abundance of lady bugs and some other insects.

We rented Captain’s Cove for a weekend getaway for the family and a mini “pupcation” for our 2 dogs. The house wasn’t overly large, but had plenty of room for our 6 people and 2 dogs. The owners of the property have thought of everything. There were already dog toys, dog bowls and water bowls, drinking water, even s’mores supplies. The ponds provided kayaking and a great weekend of fishing. We had an amazing time, would highly recommend and can’t wait to return!!

We loved everything about this property! The host was great with communication and I loved all the little extra touches in the house. It’s a little harder to find things for teenagers to do but ours had a great time on the Kayak’s, pedal boat, game room and the shuffle board. Our family and dogs had so much fun during our stay and we would love to stay again!

The house was very clean. We fished the first day in the pond nearest to the house and caught MANY baby Bluegill, as soon as you cast you get a bite; would be fun for kids. We also caught 2 very nice size bass and a nice catfish over the days. The next day we fished for in a while in the other pond nearest the timberline and caught some very large Bluegill and some nice bass in there. But there's only a couple of little places to access it due to tall weeds. Very quiet and private, so also nice in that respect.

Captain's Cove was the perfect property for our family of eight. The home itself was clean and tidy and offered all the cozy comforts of home while still giving us space to spread out when needed. The outdoor amenities of the ponds for fishing and kayaking were great as well. I would highly recommend Captain's Cove to anyone visiting the Muscatine area.

When driving up to the house, I thought there is no way this is going to house my family. Boy, was I wrong! Two stories with 3 very spacious bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms, nice sized kitchen and family room. My favorite spot was the large deck looking over the swimmer pond. My granddaughters used the paddle boat, went swimming and fished. The nights were spent around the fire pit. There is only one refrigerator so we were good with a couple coolers. Cell service was sketchy but, we were on vacation!

The house was clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the quiet and sitting outside. We were wanting to use the pond to float and get sun. The pictures show the pond as having walk in access and a place to use the kayaks. Around the pond was very over grown and the only access to the was from a dock.

Great place to relax and fish! Fishing was great on the big pond located steps from house. Fishing from dock was enjoyable. We found it hard to access the other ponds for fishing due to grass/vegetation being grown up high around them. Enjoyed grilling on the deck in the evenings. Absolutely beautiful scenery.
