Candlewyck House was a great venue for our family's annual sibling vacation. We felt at home and had a lot of fun. All six couples were pleased with their accommodations. Four rooms have a bathroom ensuite and the other two have their bathrooms across a hall. The kitchen got tight at times, the light switches aren't intuitive and the patio door needs TLC, but those small issues were more than offset by the large common spaces where we spent most of our time, especially the patio. The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, utensils, cookware and equipment. The neighborhood is safe, pleasant and quiet, and just a short walk to shops & restaurants. Cathy stopped by to make sure things were okay... that was nice. If it is important to you, wi-fi is weak upstairs but fine on the first floor.
We had a great time. In Pentwater, MI. The town is adorable, it is a short drive from the great places in Ludington and is within walking distance from Meers State Park with its white sandy beaches on Lake Michigan. But that is not the best part - this house we stayed at was amazing! Beautiful and comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, great old world charm throughout the house, nice outdoor space and very clean. We hope to return next year. I highly recommend it!
Charming and perfect for our group who all had our own accommodations, during a week long sailing regatta.
Five couples stayed here for four days, we enjoyed our stay for the most part, the property was pretty close to town. It is an old home, so if you are looking for modern this isn't it. It has a lot of charm, but could use an update. Loved the large table in the dinning room. We had an issue with bees on the patio which was a great place to hang out. Check in isn't until 6:00pm which was a little late, but we made it work.
Great time. Kids really liked the house with all the bedrooms and baths!
We had the best time. Cathy is also great. :) Thank you!
Great place for all of our adult children. Two families had their small children and the large size rooms were perfect! Great having bathrooms for all of the bedrooms, along with a spacious house. Loved the patio and front porch. It was a beautiful week and we spent a lot of time on the patio! Excellent host and co-host!
Great weekend with family, Large enough for all of us.
Easy check-in, very spacious, great location. Clean and comfortable. Host was very communicative and helpful. Would recommend.
Great place
Common areas such as the front porch, patio, dining room, and kitchen were great to congregate in, and much better than a hotel setting. The Kitchen was well equipped and comfortable. Proximity to downtown, the lake or channel were convenient. Parking was generous and fully used (5 spots needed). The rooms were private, and bathrooms adequate, but others (and me) in the group didn't like the bed comfort. I slept poorly for two nights in the tub room, then went downstairs to the couch the third. The bed in the tub room was small for two adults. It also needs a door on the toilet stall. Doing your business two feet from your spouse with only a lace curtain between us was not what we expected. The in-town host (Cathy) was responsive, and helped when needed. The house grew on us after a few days, and we enjoyed our stay. I would possibly stay here again, but choose another room.
We vacationed in Pentwater every summer when we lived in Michigan and our daughter was young. She wanted to spend a vacation with her girls, our granddaughters, n Pentwater before they grow too old to appreciate the fun times of beach and living close to Lake Michigan for a week. The house is worn in places, but very clean. Kitchen is large enough to accommodate several to prepare meals. The dining room table was perfect - lovely warm wood and large. Nothing like getting family together and sitting around the same table for a meal. Seated 14 comfortably. It was great to have 6 bedrooms and baths - no waiting to use a shower! The porch and the patio are fantastic gathering places for large groups. Fire pit for smores was a hit. Our group of 14 never felt crowded here. The only item I would have really loved that wasn't present was a gas grill, but we did grill dogs and burgers on the charcoal grill for the 4th and it worked out just fine!
Very unique property as a converted bed and breakfast. It allowed everyone private space with good Common areas. Short walk to beach and downtown. Pentwater is a quaint well kept secret. We’d do this again with no hesitation
Our family is better off for our time together at your place. Enough room(s) to allow everyone to gather and enjoy each other's company as well as have some personal space when wanted. So wonderful. And Cathy is always so helpful and easy to reach if needed. Thanks again!
Affordable pricing Nice neighborhood Close to beach and downtown Pentwater House is roomier than it looks Side door does not lock Conflicting instructions in the guest book
We planned a Memorial Day weekend getaway at The Candlewyck House for eleven (a grandmother and her two kids' families, including six young adults). There was good communication with the owners ahead of our stay, so we knew expectations prior to arrival. This is a very charming home – inside and out - and the traditional décor was in keeping with the vintage house. The living room, dining room, and patio were roomy enough to accommodate all of us at once, which was nice for mealtime, games and chatting. The bedrooms were spread out into separate areas, so it was a comfortable house that allowed us to retreat to our own spaces and gather together throughout the weekend. The kitchen was well stocked with dishware, cookware, utensils & gadgets. We walked to the downtown area several times, and enjoyed the local shops and restaurants. The state park at the end of the road offers a beautiful beach. The wi-fi was a little spotty in certain areas around the house, but that had been communicated ahead of time.
