Stayed Jan 25, 2025My family wanted to get out of town to see the stars, planet alignment, and just escape the city for the weekend. As soon as we saw the boulder house we knew it was the place. Not only was the house extremely unique, it had so many cool little rooms and themes throughout. On top of that, the pool and jacuzzi were heated, something about swimming in 49-50 weather with a desert backdrop makes it feel like a whole new experience. Our 2 dogs loved the openness, and if you walk the property you find secret chill places. Very fun, very trippy. Definitely going back

Stayed Oct 12, 2024Ok, so there were nine of us, all adults staying at the Boulderhouse. All went well, the location was excellent, the house was everything we expected, with no suprises. We spent most of out time exploring hikes in JT, but on two of our days out of seven, we stayed at the house. During that time, we spent a lot of time by the pool and took turns preparing meals. The kitchen is well-appointed, something, in my experience, is not always the case. No complaints.

Stayed Sep 27, 2024This was our fourth or fifth time staying in the Boulder house. Every time is magical. We recommend visiting in summer or early fall (pre October) to maximize the chances of using the pool which is not heated.

Stayed Oct 6, 2023This was our third annual stay with two other families at the Boulder House. We treasure each year. It is so peaceful and remote, yet there is so much to do and so many ways to be active - and to relax and have fun in the house. The Boulder House is a one-of-a-kind place. Pro tip: bring wet suits if you want to use the pool in the fall. :)

Stayed Dec 26, 2022We stayed here in December of 2022 with our family and friends including young adult and older teenage children. This house made our vacation an experience to remember. We all loved it! I would recommend arriving before dark as the drive in at night was very dark and a bit scary never having seen the road/ driveway in the day as it is a dirt road surrounded by large boulders. However, waking up to discover the property and see the sunrise from these enormous boulders was breathtaking. What a gorgeous place to take a sunrise, or sunset, stroll! The house is certainly eclectic and artsy! Not your typical rental home but one you will never forget. It took a minute to settle into the nooks and crannies of this eclectic home, but by the second day we felt comfortable in our new adventurous setting. Not being familiar with the California high desert we were a little concerned about the wildlife but were cautious on our hikes and only saw a mountain lion from the edge of the property from a pretty safe distance. It was by far one of the coolest places we have ever stayed. Would love to go back for more adventures!

Stayed Aug 15, 2023Highly, highly recommend staying at the Boulder House! It's a one of a kind house with a great, unique character. Extremely clean, great communication from the host, and beautiful desert views! Between the hot tub, pool, hiking trails, and spacious indoors, there's really nothing left to be desired! Thanks again for a great stay :)

Stayed Nov 23, 2022The house is very appropriately called The Boulders, situated as it is surrounded by large, weathered rocks. It is rather emote, down a long dirt road, with a drive of 15 to 20 minutes to the nearest town. Inside, the house is dense, one might say cluttered, with artwork. The paintings seem Southwestern in subject and Expressionist in style. For a short stay, it’s interesting. We celebrated Thanksgiving at The Boulders. It is not well-suited for the preparation of large meals, however. The kitchen is quite small and lacks a dishwasher and garbage disposal unit in the sink. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The boulder-strewn acreage is fun to explore, and Pioneertown is fun to stroll.

Stayed Aug 11, 2022My group had a magical time at the Boulder House. The house had so man intricate details to explore, wild art, the scenery was breathtaking. The boulder room was especially cool, as this house is built right into the rocks. The property seems much larger in person, and the beds were super comfortable. Checkin was very easy, and the homeowner was quick to answer my questions. Would definitely book again!
