Backwoods retreat 12 miles from New River Gorge Bridge

Comfortable, very clean, owners available if any help was needed.

The home was lovely and immaculate. The property was in touch with nature to say the least. My family and I enjoyed watching deer, birds, turkeys, and we loved Henry the raccoon! It was confirming having Deanna, Mike, and Owen nearby. We really did not want to leave! It was definitely a slice of Heaven! My dog Charlie felt very at home and loved the fenced in back yard!

Heaven on Earth!! This was a perfect place for me to relax with my adult children. It is so peaceful and the wildlife are amazing. The cabin is beautiful, very spacious, large bathrooms, large kitchen, and it was a perfect place to bring dogs because the back door opens out into a fenced yard. We enjoyed fishing and a guided hike up to the top of the ridge. My son is stationed in Norfolk, so it’s perfect for us to have a halfway point that we can meet at and relax. The owners were very nice very helpful and if you need to run to Walmart or Starbucks, it’s pretty close. We will definitely meet again there the next time my son has some time to get away from base.

House was spotless & had everything you could possibly need. Mike, our host was super nice! The backyard is fenced in which was great for our wiener dog! We saw deer, turkeys, & beautiful birds everyday from the front porch. Truly an awesome place to stay!

Amazing property for a peaceful getaway. Exactly what we were looking for!

Very peaceful property about 20 minutes from the Bridge. We loved the catch and release fishing pond and Mile was gracious enough to give our boys minnows to use. We hiked the trails on the property to the mountain overlook and watched the deer next to our porch every night. The home was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed. Wonderful stay!

Great hosts on a lovely piece of land with access to their own hiking trails and a relatively close location to the park which made daily travel to NRG easy.

This is a hidden gem IF I did not live so far away (Hawaii) I Would stay here at least once a year. We stayed 5 nights... and would have wished for another 5.You will not regret your stay here in the quiet hills of WV. Mahalo for the wonderfil experience. Capt. Gary0

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Backwoods Retreat. The house was perfect and comfortable and dog friendly. We loved the peacefulness and solitude of the property grounds. Being able to view the wildlife from the front porch while drinking a cup of coffee was a wonderful bonus. Mike and Deanna are wonderful hosts and have done a fantastic job in making their guests feel welcome. We are looking forward to returning in the future.

Perfect retreat to view nature! The hosts are wonderful . They had plenty of chilled water in the fridge and granola bars in case we needed something on arrival. So thoughtful! The home is laid out thoughtfully and super clean! Thank for a lovely stay!

Sitting on the front porch while watching the deer, hummingbirds, and butterflies was a highlight...so tranquil! The location is great-convenient to all the attractions at New River Gorge National Park, yet extremely peaceful, quiet, and secluded. Mike and Deanna are lovely people and excellent hosts! We highly recommend this property -especially to those who appreciate the beauty and solitude of nature!!

Lovely setting away from everything, but close enough that we could easily visit the New River Gorge and other local places. Really enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the wild turkeys and deer, fishing in the pond, and hiking up into the woods. We enjoyed our stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed oyr stay at this delightful home, surrounded by mountains and wildlife. The home was perfectly comfortable, abd welcoming to our two dogs. We loved the daily deer and turkey visits, playing cornhole , smores, and making memories. The location is just a shirt drive from the national park and is a great place to relax after adventuring in the park.

We enjoyed a relaxing retreat that is truly an almost heaven experience. The cabin was just the right size for our group of four plus two dogs, and was neat, tidy and well-equipped. The hosts were kind and accommodating. The location was secluded just enough to give you the feeling of disconnect from the hustle and bustle, but was also only miles away from markets, restaurants and other conveniences. We went out every day to explore what the national park has to offer, but I would not have minded spending a whole day, just sitting on the front porch/deck, watching the local wild life. Highly recommend. If you are thinking of a more extended stay, please note that laundry-related amenities are not offered with this property. It was an only a three-night stay for us, so it was not an issue or a concern, but for longer stays, you will need to pack accordingly.

We had a fantastic stay at this quiet and clean cabin! The property is absolutely beautiful, with a spacious backyard and a great grill setup for outdoor meals. We were treated to amazing wildlife views every day, which made the experience even more special. The kids especially loved fishing in the pond! The location is also perfect—peaceful and relaxing, yet just a short drive from New River Gorge National Park. A wonderful place to unwind and explore the area.

Great place to stay off the beaten path. Not too far from New River NP but the only thing you will hear there is nature. Very peacful.

Very cool to see deer and turkey walking all around, nice to sit on the porch and hear the rain. Our two year old loved the pond, and the owners were very kind. House is down a gravel road a ways and glad to have all wheel drive.

A great way to visit the area. My husband fished on the pond every night and my son hiked up the property's trail to view the sunrise. Easy to access and not far from many Natl Park trails. Our hosts were very communicative and helpful. I hope to visit again.

Great family getaway with the dog. The property is beautiful and the house is lovely. Plenty of supplies. On the approach to the house you drive by some mobile homes in disrepair and scrap piles. Was worrisome on our first drive through but turned out fine. Owners live in the house right next to the cabin which surprised me but they're vernice

My wife and I loved this beautiful mountain cabin getaway! We brought our two dogs and it was perfect for us. The couch and living area is super cozy and comfortable. The backyard is awesome and really wonderful for dogs because it’s enclosed and also has a great fire pit for enjoying the beautiful night sky. We saw bald eagles, deer, and turkeys while we were there all around the cabin. It’s a very relaxing country escape. We were able to explore the new River Gorge national Park conveniently for the four days we were there. Thanks for the great stay!

We had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful with so many thoughtful touches. The view was amazing. We loved being able to walk around the beautiful property. It was great having a fenced in backyard for our dog to run around. The owner were so friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.

Heard many great things about New River Gorge area we just had to see for ourselves. Great place and location to come home to after visiting all the amazing sites. Would definitely come and stay here again

A wonderful home in a beautiful setting. The property is peaceful, and relaxing. The home is well equipped and very comfortable. The hosts are wonderful, and helpful. Check in is a breeze. We loved sitting on the front desk in the morning drinking coffee and watching the deer and turkey. We had adventures to many of the nearby hikes, and back to the house at night for wine and wildlife watching. After dark there is a smokeless fire pit to sit around. If you need a get away, this is it! The only negative is that we didn't book it for longer! Will definitely go back if I have a chance

Beautiful setting with great view and wildlife. Great place if you want to get away and chill. Hosts live next door and are very friendly and helpful without being overbearing - were very accommodating when my wife experienced broken ankle while at New River Gorge.

Owners did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. It worked. Deer and turkeys roamed the area. Very relaxing. Would go back

If you like remote, this is the place! Peaceful, clean, great front porch views. Host was very friendly and accessible. Great place to relax after hiking and exploring the New River Gorge Natl Park. Be sure to do the Bridge Walk - spectacular!

Enjoyed a long weekend getaway with my son and grand-dog. This beautiful property is off the beaten path but within an easy drive to New River Gorge NP, state parks, and outdoor adventures! The house is surrounded by lovely, wooded terrain and abundant wildlife, including wild turkeys and deer. The pup loved hanging out in the back yard and running in the fenced area at the bottom of the driveway. The house was clean, the layout was cozy, and the kitchen was well stocked. The property owners, Mike and Deanna were gracious and greeted us at check-in. Overall we had a peaceful, restful stay and would recommend this property to anyone interested in escaping the noise of everyday life!
