At the top of a rolling hill, surrounded by 20 private acres, sits a beautiful year-round one-bedroom cabin. Built by one of Ely’s top craftsmen, every detail blends a rustic setting with modern comfort, creating a warm and inviting retreat. A stunning wall of windows fills the cabin with sunshine. Thunder rolls overhead during summer storms, and snow falls softly outside in winter—while you stay cozy inside, feeling completely connected to nature. It’s truly a romantic place to stay.

The kitchen is a pleasure to use, featuring a Bosch dishwasher, 5-burner gas range, extra-large refrigerator, and plenty of dishes and cookware—everything you need for cooking and entertaining.

The full bathroom is located downstairs and includes a large shower, plenty of towels, and toiletries for your use. A dining table for four is perfect for meals or games, and a sliding door opens to a small patio with beautiful lake views.

Upstairs, the spacious bedroom loft features a king-size bed and a hot tub, where you can relax while taking in peaceful views of the lake. A private balcony off the loft is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee in quiet solitude.

A sofa bed in the downstairs living room provides additional sleeping space and creates a cozy area for reading, watching TV, or simply unwinding.

Enjoy the outdoors with plenty of nearby trails for hiking and exploring. Evenings are perfect around the fire pit, and the property offers ample parking with room to turn around, making access easy. There is plenty of space for trailers, including boats or snowmobiles.

Bring your boat! Down the long hill and to the left on the main road is the dock area, where your own dock and parking space await. The lake offers abundant fishing, and just a few miles down the road, The Lady Bug Resort provides pontoon rentals and a boat launch.

In the winter, this cabin is a true getaway for cold-weather enthusiasts. You can snowmobile directly from the cabin, and the lake offers excellent ice fishing throughout the winter months.

Located just a few miles before Ely on Highway 169, you’re close to one of Minnesota’s most charming towns. Ely sits on the edge of the Boundary Waters and bustles all summer with canoe enthusiasts. You’ll find everything you need—restaurants, grocery stores, shops, and outfitters—just a short drive away.

This cabin is ideal for couples, families, fishermen, and outdoor explorers. Come rest, relax, and create lasting memories.

Highlights
-Snowmobile directly from cabin
-Ample parking with turnaround for trailers
-Ice fishing on Shagawa Lake
-Lake access 1/4 of a mile, down the hill
-Fire pit
-BBQ.

During winter months, an AWD or 4WD vehicle is required to access the cabin.

In late January my wife and I took a getaway weekend to go snowmobiling in the Ely, MN area, and we chose to stay at this property because of it’s convenient access to Shagawa Lake, downtown Ely, and the many miles of groomed snowmobile trails in the area. This cabin is wonderfully secluded on a ridge with beautiful views across the lake towards Ely, and it’s wonderfully warm and cozy which is very important in January in Minnesota. We especially loved the in-floor heating, which always made the floors feel warm under our feet, plus there’s nothing better than soaking in a jetted hot tub after spending all day on the snowmobile trails in 20 below January Minnesota weather. This cabin seemed to be recent construction, and was tastefully tastefully appointed and decorated throughout. It came with all the ammenities, modern appliances, and was fully stocked with everything we needed for a wonderful, memory filled mini-vacation. We hope to return and stay again soon!

This cabin was beautiful. We stayed here in the winter on our honeymoon and it was perfect. At one point there was a little mix up but the owners responded in a timely manner and helped us figure everything out! This cabin was the perfect distance from town (about 12 minutes) but was also secluded, surrounded by trees and had giant windows out the front that gave a beautiful view, along with a glimpse of the lake. We had a wonderful, relaxing experience and really enjoyed ourselves

Everything was as it said it would be. The king size bed was superb and very important to us as we both have bad backs. I could live here. Massive kitchen island. The beauty is all around you and seen from sunrise to sunset through all the glass. No need for artwork when you can view it live inside or out. This was a great escape from all the noise life dishes up. Very peaceful and restful, just what we needed!

Great location for fall colors and wildlife. Close to town for any necessities and restaurants. Cabin was clean and had plenty of kitchen space and living area. We didn't use the kitchen much but it has items needed to prepare a meal. We were very impressed!!

Our family had a wonderful stay while in Ely. The Shack is special. The windows allow you to feel like you are in a treehouse! It’s a beautiful home. The primary bed is outstanding. We typically stay in nice hotels and this bed was equal to or better than most hotels that we stay in. Our purpose for this trip was to reset and relax. We all slept better than we have all summer. We enjoyed Shagawa Lake with a rented pontoon from Lake View Lodge. We biked the Mesabi Trail. We stopped at both the wolf and bear centers and enjoyed some shopping in downtown Ely. We saw so many loons - it was spectacular! We had a splendid stay at the Shack! Thank you!

I had a magnificent time staying in this home, even under threat of wildfires I felt safe secure and relaxed atop the hillside overlooking the lake. I will definitely be returning with my partner one day.

Excellent choice if you want a secluded spot near Ely on the lake. Cabin exceeded expectations, a comfortable north woods retreat with modern luxuries. Dock was in really good shape. We opted to rent a pontoon from the Lake View Lodge down the road, also a great spot.

We did a little baby-moon, grateful for 4WD as the driveway is a climb and our Civic definitely wouldn’t have made the trek. The owner guide was very helpful as it covered all the basis, so no questions were left unanswered. The place is cute as a button and the views are beautiful, the seclusion and atmosphere were perfect for what we were looking for. Something to keep in mind, the house is warmer during the day as you have all the big windows in the back of the house. We saw an eagle fly by and a deer walk by, it was very cool! Wonderful cabin for a getaway!

The shack was extremely cozy and romantic. We brought our ATV and rode the trails around Ely, Tower, and Babbitt. After a long day in the fall cold, the fireplace and jacuzzi was exactly what the body needed. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. My only thing I would’ve liked to change is that they cut down the White Pine trees that are blocking the view from the Lake. The shack is a 10/10 recommendation.

Gorgeous, relaxing, serene property and location. Perfect couples trip. Jacuzzi for after long hikes, so necessary? It feels like home, but also a cabin where I temporarily have no real life responsibility (perplexing, I know?). I hate leaving!

A comfortable and private place to stay. We enjoyed our stay very much, saw a few deer in the mornings as well as a pine Martin. Fully stocked kitchen made cooking and dining in possible. Great location. Can only see the lake from bed or a rocking chair in the loft. Nice fire pit! Comfortable bed. Good times!

We had a nice stay at the Shack. VERY well equipped kitchen and the gas grill made meal prep easy. Bedding was excellent quality, though the mattress was a bit soft for our tastes. We didn't use the dock at all...the parking spot and steepness of the access looked a little dicey.
