Chattanooga, Tennessee
Step back in time into the historical Sissons House at the base of Lookout Mountain. This unique home built in 1884 sits in the most desirable location in St. Elmo surrounded by an acre of gorgeous landscaped grounds. Savor the fresh air off Lookout Mountain from the serene perch of the home's covered, wrap-around wooden front porch or sip your morning coffee in the more private garden patio. Recently updated with new decor and furnishings. Experience a true Chattanooga charmer.
Sissons House, conveniently located in the historic district of St. Elmo, is within walking distance of numerous restaurants and cafes, as well as the many activities on Lookout Mountain, including historical Point Park, Civil War battle sites, and scenic hiking trails. Downtown Chattanooga, with the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Bluff View Art District, Warehouse Row, Chattanooga Riverwalk, and more, is an easy, 10-minute drive away. It doesn't take long for visitors to discover why Chattanooga is affectionately called the "Scenic City."
Adventure enthusiasts and thrill seekers alike will find options aplenty in the Chattanooga area, whether rock climbing Cumberland Plateau and its Tennessee Wall, bouldering at Stone Fort, hang gliding with the Lookout Mountain Flight Park, or white water rafting on the nearby Ocoee River.
Within walking distance of Sissons House, downtown St. Elmo offers a number of eateries and bars, including The Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe, St. Elmo Deli & Grill, Sawasdee Thai Restaurant, Mojo Burrito, Clumpies Ice Cream Company, Plus Coffee, Mr. T's Pizza & Ice Cream, The Tap House and 1885 Grill.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bunk room and all the outside activities were so fun for our 4 granddaughters! Such a cute little slice of history. Highly recommend!!
We had a wonderful 5 day getaway in Chattanooga with our three children, staying at the St. Elmo farmhouse. The property exceeded expectations--it matches the pictures and was comfortable and more convenient than we imagined for our planned adventures. We ate s'mores around the fire in the firepit and hiked Lookout Mountain to Ruby Falls.
The home is just as described in the listing. It was immaculate and SO much care and thought and love has been poured into every detail, from the furniture to the toiletries and everything in between. It’s an excellent location near everything you could possibly want to do in the city but with surroundings that make you feel like you’re in a retreat. The property is BEAUTIFUL! You are close to a fairly busy street but the front yard is so spacious that you aren’t bothered by it at all. The historic house itself is absolutely perfect. Everything makes sense - the layout, the decor, etc. Plan to take a ton of photos; I captured so many memories on my phone of my toddler running barefoot around the property, gleefully sorting through the thoughtful toy chest they provide in the bunk bed room, and cozying up in their very comfortable beds. The only problem is that you may not want to leave the comfort and beauty of this home to actually do any activities in the city! My family has some special needs and the owner was very attentive and accommodating. We are already trying to decide on fall/winter dates for our return. This will be the only place we ever stay in Chattanooga, without a doubt. We truly can’t wait to return!
We had a wonderful stay at St. Elmo farmhouse! House was well stocked with everything you would need to have a wonderful relaxed vacation. In a great location so close to all that Chattanooga has to offer. Will definitely stay again when we venture back to Chattanooga.
If you're visiting Chattanooga- this is the place to stay. Everything was wonderful about the property and location. Upon walking in we were amazed at how the home is both historical and updated in all the right ways. The home is well stocked and very welcoming. My daughter was so excited to have a lush room with a private bath and chandler over the bed. Speaking of beds..... they are so comfortable. It gets chilly in the house (the a/c is very powerful which is essential for southern summers), but there are so many cozy blankets to cuddle up with- a very nice touch. The outside seating is inviting and a great place to watch the chipmunks, squirrels and birds in the morning and lightning bugs at night. Very easy to get to/from the interstate and downtown (with many great restaurants and things to do- we loved the Ghost Tour and Coker museum) The Lookout Mountain attractions are so close (you can walk to the Incline Railway; Ruby Falls and Rock City are a short 5-10 minute drive). There are a number of restaurants, a lovely wine store, drug store and grocery store within walking distance. I cannot think of a thing that I would change about the property- it is perfect. We were sad to leave and will certainly plan to come back.
We loved our stay in Chattanooga. One of the nicest we’ve stayed in. Very easy access to everything. Kitchen has everything! Love Chattanooga!
Our 2 families stayed in the home to celebrate a birthday. The property was great for both families. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space for the family to hangout and be together. Close to everything
We enjoyed our stay! Charming historic home. Would definitely book again
The home is very spacious and felt like a home (in some ways a little better).
We had a great getaway to Chattanooga. This house was in a perfect location, convenient to everything. Beautiful historic home. The kids loved the yard and staying in the bunk room. We would definitely do it again!
Great for all the attractions.
My daughters and her bridesmaid had a wonderful weekend. Hiking. Cooking and enjoying the peace and quiet of Chattanooga. Loved the originality of the house we did not want to leave
Our family really enjoyed staying at this historical home in the heart of St. Elmo. It was so close to everything we wanted to visit including Rock City, hiking trails and great restaurants. Our kids loved the bunk beds and swing in the side yard. Would definitely stay here again.
Excellent
We loved the St. Elmo Farmhouse! The kids loved the outside areas and the triple bunks, the adults appreciated the history and the care and detail of restoring the home to its current state. Host was so generous and house was well stocked and so comfortable. Location was great for trail running and great eating. Highly recommend!
This was such a well done home and property. The owners obviously care a great deal about the wellbeing of this home. It is well maintained, comfortable, and very inviting. The use of the house was simple, no special rules for appliances etc. Because we had such a comfortable place to rest and relax, we were able to spend quality time as a family. This home is right in the heart of everything, I don't think we had to drive more than 15-20 min to get to anything on our to do list. If we ever plan to travel to Chattanooga again, this will be where we stay! Thank you for making our trip so memorable!
Fantastic place. The furnishing of the place felt so authentic (not like a kitschy VRBO) and warm. Close to great hiking/running trail. Highly recommend the house!
I can't say enough good things about this house! Very close to Lookout Mountain attractions, but not too far from great hikes either (Blue Hole was our favorite). Downtown is just minutes away. We loved our stay!!
My family loved this house. The layout, the location, everything was amazing.
Loved this house! So charming, great yard for the kids, and great location. Would love to come back.
This served as our home away from home in Chattanooga - immaculate home that was perfect for our family including a 5 year old and 7 year old. Perfect location with all the amenities you could ever want. We will be back!
We stayed here for Spring Break - four adults and four children under the age of 6. It is a great house for families. Bedrooms with king beds have their own bathrooms and the kids enjoyed the bunk room with the toy chest. We also enjoyed the large yard, firepit, and grill. Highly recommend in the Chattanooga area!
Awesome home, loved the kitchen, the swing in the back, the yard where we could toss the football, and the games they left for us to play outdoors. Convenient location! Loved our time here.
It was a great setting to host some overnight guests and have a few small group meetings. Easy to feed people, great kitchen, and lots of history! If you like Chattanooga, you’ll love this house.
