Come unwind on the mountaintop!
The rocking chairs on the porch are perfect for morning coffee & the deck offers a built-in hammock for afternoon naps. Here, you can breathe deep, listen to the songbirds, and let your worries fade away.
Whether you prefer to rock climb in Prentice Cooper State Forest next door or take a hike down to Suck Creek, Mother Nature has graced this area with a little something for everyone!
The space
Chickadee is 1/4 of the "Songbird Neighborhood" at the newly-created Talking Water Nature Retreat. Talking Water is a family-run business located on an 82-acre strip of land, a mile of which runs along Suck Creek. Our family has worked tirelessly since April 2022 to repair damage done to the land and make it better than it ever was. The most recent part of this (after stabilizing the land and building cabins) has been expansion of our hiking trails along the property.
Our primary intent is to host large groups (up to 25 guests) for family reunions, friend trips, business retreats, religious/club gatherings, etc. We have created this space for people to come together while also maintaining their privacy.
There are 4 cabins, Chickadee, Whippoorwill, Goldfinch, and Blackbird. Each include their own sleeping (for 6-7), bathing (indoor full bathrooms plus outdoor showers), cooking (full kitchens plus outdoor campsite grills), lounging (patios, porches, and decks), and indulgences (such as electric fireplaces, tv, wifi).Outdoor showers are available for use from last frost to first frost each year.
At the center of the neighborhood is the Songbird Pavilion. The pavilion features an outdoor kitchen with an electric griddle, sink, and cabinets. There is a firepit, chairs, benches, and tables. Also, nearby are the slide, tetherball, and hiking trail. The guest laundry and games/extra toiletries are available a short distance away in the garage.
Cabins may be rented individually or as a collective (one listing for 4 cabins - Goldfinch remains under construction at this time).
Guest access
Rental of Chickadee cabin includes the cabin itself and the outdoor space directly adjacent. Also available to the guest are the community pavilion and the guest laundry room inside the garage.

This is the most precious cabin. Great communication and all the relaxation you can ask for.
This place was amazing!!! Bobbie is a great host and has done a real nice job with the property. Our favorite things were the outdoor hammock and towel heater (it’s the small things that matter). The bed and sheets were so comfy and soft, honestly the best bed I’ve slept in at a rental property. 100% recommend staying here and it’s not too far from all the tourist “hot spots” and downtown area of Chattanooga.
The cabin was great and our stay was amazing!!
quaint cottage in the woods in the beautiful Prentice Cooper Forest. Fully equipped just bring your clothes and food. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Love the decor in these cute cabins! So relaxing and we had unusually warm fall weather this past weekend which allowed us time outdoors at the pavilion where we enjoyed cooking and dining with friends! Amazing hosts and the ultimate for relaxation!
We booked this cozy cabin for 2 nights during the Longest Yard sale because of the convenience. We couldn't be happier that we did! Everything was perfect from the blackout blinds to the clawfoot tub/shower inside and the shower outside. The rope bed outside was a wonderful treat after a long day of yard shopping. We had a thunderstorm the 2nd night and the sound of the rain on the metal roof just added to the ambiance and restful sleep. We didn't have time to explore the property or trails but we will be back. I cannot recommend this location and hosts enough!
