Escape into a mini-fantasy world in this delightful 650-square-foot guest cottage situated in a quiet residential neighborhood just a one block stroll to downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea. Refurbished in recent years, this fanciful one-bedroom, with its accouterments of mermaids, seashells, starfish and other undersea imagery, offers a perfect vacation respite for up to two adults or two adults and one small child. This is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, with its sunny, sand-sea-and-sky color scheme, whimsical objects d'art and sumptuous bath and bed linens.

The cottage is within walking distance of the remarkable selection of shops, boutiques galleries and restaurants in the village of Carmel. Bruno's Market, a gourmet grocery store that is a Carmel trademark, is just a few blocks away. Breathtaking white sand beaches skirted by the Monterey Peninsula's trademark Cypress trees are an ambitious but doable walk. In the car, you can be at Carmel Beach in a matter of a few minutes.

One open, airy room with a vaulted ceiling and skylights comprises the living, dining and kitchen areas. A clean, warm feeling is achieved with wood laminate flooring, a rattan throw rug, and white furnishings that impart a bright, sun-splashed look to the living room, which includes a flat-screen TV. The plush sofa is very comfortable and makes extra sleeping space available for a small child.

The kitchen has granite counter tops and glossy white cabinetry, as well as a small gas range, oven and full refrigerator (no dishwasher). A round white table with four chairs is provided for intimate dining. Well-equipped for extended stays!

Bedroom
You will sleep like a baby on the queen-sized bed with its Sealy Posturepedic extra-plush mattress and ultra soft, luxury linens.
The sofa in the living room converts to a full/double size sleeper for a child.

Bathroom
The beautiful bathroom, which is tiled throughout, features a granite counter top and step in shower.

A Dutch door in the bedroom leads to a private patio and garden filled with colorful plants that flourish all year round in Carmel's temperate Mediterranean climate. You can dine al fresco at a bistro table and chairs; a gas grill is provided for outdoor cooking.

Just across the street is a charming vest-pocket park as well as a city parking lot with EV (electric vehicle) chargers.

The cottage is situated in a completely enclosed and private area behind a main house - also available for rental -- that unit can accommodate up to 4 guests. You can book our 2 bedroom, 1 bath main house (see #3274 on the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals website for more information) separately or together with this guest cottage.

A stacking washer/dryer is accessible from the patio.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum.

This home is a monthly rental and we request that all nights of your stay are within the same calendar month. Some exceptions may be possible, with the approval of our team and the homeowner. Extended stays are often possible.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Sea Shell Cottage was perfect for my wife and I and out 4 year old. It had everything we needed and more. There was easy access, a small private yard to store my bike. It was 3 blocks to the Main Street and we walked everywhere, including to the beach and back. Sanctuary Vacations only picks the best rentals and never leaves a stone unturned.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The property was very difficult to locate and the staff in the office didn't offer much help with providing directions. The welcome pamphlet was 50% incorrect-no trash receptacle-you have to use the neighbor's bins, no picture of the front of the property, there was an ant issue along the walkway to the front of the property. I would not stay here again- I felt claustrophobic with having several homes surrounding the property and it was so small. The fireplace made it cozy inside.

The fenced-in yard was perfect for our little dog, and the patio was comfortable for BBQing on the gas grill. Plenty of cooking implements and pots and pans, and a gas stove and oven for making meals at home when not visiting one of the many wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Removed enough from the main road to be fairly quiet considering the location. Clean and comfortable! A great stay overall!

The quest house was small but comfortable and served my needs very well. The only drawback was that, although I brought it to the property manager’s attention it was not remedied, I could not access my Netflix account on the tv so I had to use my iPad.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I left all the requested rental experiance paper work at the rental as requested so this seems a bit redundant. I am sure everyone is aware that our arrival was not great. Description of locating property was vague and outdated ( whit wire basket on front of gate with the word Sanctuary) large vehicle in our designated space, hose had not been checked out as lockbox code was incorrect and toilet was clogged. Office staff did work out a way for us to gain entry.
