You want any house you rent to be perfect, and the details matter. This house was lovely but was poorly managed IMO. Everything should 100% checked BEFORE guests arrive. The place was not guest ready. A light switch had to be replaced while we were there; doors squeaked loud enough to wake a sleeping partner; the upper kitchen did not enough flatware for all guests; and the dishwasher had the wrong sized pods so the dishes had to be hand-washed. The number of issues seemed to indicate a lack of attention by Vacasa. In the bathrooms, the showers were nice, but there were not enough towels for all guests. And providing gas station grade toilet paper is simply unacceptable. The master toilet had a printed label reading, Make sure handle is up after flushing on it in lieu of fixing the problem. The toilet became un-flushable within a day nonetheless. The wrong handle was installed by a prior maintenance person. Flooding was the biggest issue. After a few showers the mainline would overload & flood a downstairs bathroom. We bailed water until the issue was properly addressed. Too many calls were required for maintenance issues...not the way anyone wants to spend their vacation, IMO it's a lovely home in a great location that has not been given the proper attention by Vacasa, who earned almost $1,400 that week alone. It seems they did not represent the home owner well.
My family rented this place with my siblings and their kids. The space was great. Lots of room for everyone to hang out in. The beach is only 2 blocks away and can easily be walked to. There are a bunch of beach chairs, boogey boards, and beach toys at the house as well. The only thing you need to bring is an umbrella. The town is a short drive away and the freeway is super close, but not too close that you can hear it. The AC was great and kept us cool all week. There were a few minor issues to note if you are staying with young kids who are sensitive to light and/or noise while sleeping: (1)The upstairs unit has a lot of doors that are mostly made of glass, so they let a lot of light in the rooms. So if your kids go to bed early, you need to keep the rest of the lights off in the common areas. (2) The upstairs unit gets a lot of sun and the curtains let a good amount of light through. So my kids got up really early. (3) A lot of the doors upstairs are barn doors (they hang from a track mounted on the wall above the door) and they are rather noisy when closing and opening, and they don't do much to keep sound from getting into the rooms. (4) You can hear people moving around above from the lower unit. (5) The beach right near the unit is good for surfing but not great for little kids due to large waves. None of these issues stopped us from having a good time and we figured out ways to work around them. Overall, we had a great experience staying here.
Very nice, would definetly come back
The location is great. We loved being so close to the beach and downtown Carlsbad. The house is more run down than in the pictures and the couches are pretty beat up in both units and should be replaced. My biggest issue was the terrible lack of communication with the “local management” group which never received any communication with even though we were told several times by the call center they would be reaching out to us. When we arrived, the bottom unit hadn’t been clean at all. Beds, bathroom, kitchen were dirty. There was spoiled broccoli in the sink that smelled up the entire unit. When we contacted customer support. We were told they sent an escalation to the local management team and they would be reaching out to us. I asked for a refund for the first night and was told i would have to wait for the local management company to reach out to us. We couldn’t use the bottom unit the 1st night due to it not being cleaned. The 2nd day the cleaners came in the morning and cleaned the unit. We still hadn’t heard back from the company. When I asked about the refund, the cleaners told me they were unable to do so and to call customer service. I called and text the customer service several times about a refund for the first night and kept being told that I had to wait for the local management company to reach out to me as they can’t provide any type of refund. I will now have to work through VRBO to try and get a refund as no one has responded and customer service cannot help. This is a great place if nothing goes wrong, but if you need any help don’t expect to get any. I wouldn’t stay here again due to lack of communication and poor local management staff.
We booked this for it's proximity to the beach. We rented the upper and lower units for our family and friends and our kids. The place was clean and the beds were comfortable. We didn't like the dishwasher in the upstairs unit-the dishes DO NOT come clean in it and we hand washed most everything. The couches in both units need a good deep cleaning or replacing. The listing isn't very descriptive on what beds are where so I am going to list it-upstairs unit has king bed with attached bathroom, 2 twin beds and queen bedroom with attached bathroom. This queen bedroom and bathroom has frosted glass doors. Downstairs unit has king bed with single twin in that bedroom and attached bathroom and then 2 twin beds with a bathroom that is just across hallway from it. There is around 6 beach chairs and 2 boogie boards and some beach toys. You can only access each unit from outside, they do not connect inside. The communication with Vacasa prior to the trip was awful-they never responded to any communication and I tried all the ways they told me to contact them but while there of course they were responsive. We would book this again solely for it's location and view, we loved it.
We had a great weekend at the Carlsbad beach haven. We had a few problems like smoke alarm and fire feature not working. When we contacted vacasa we were helped within a half hour. Some the appliances are outdated and there were some notable cracks in the sink and oven upstairs, but the units were well decorated and beds comfortable. Location is key!!! Amazing views too! Would definitely stay again.
Rented both duplexes for a dual family vacation and the setup was perfect. The house is in a great location, 2 blocks to the beach and 1 mile to downtown Carlsbad. The house itself is older and basic. It doesn't feel high end but perfectly comfortable for a family. We would stay again. Pros: Comfortable beds Great patio with gas fireplace Ample parking Beach chairs, towels and toys Central air/AC Staff took care of trash cans for weekly pickup Cons: Old appliances, fridge dispenser didn't work Some worn furniture No blackout shades Must pay extra for pack n play Can hear upstairs easily from downstairs rental Can hear the train, didn't bother us but light sleepers may need ear plugs
Nice Space and FANTASTIC LOCATION....Overall pretty clean B except the dishes....I felt like they were grimy...I would have expected them to be clean--that were not really washed well before the cleaning service put them away. The couch in the second floor condo could use a deep cleaning--otherwise comfortable beds and nice layout.
We traveled to Carlsbad for a family wedding. My husband and I and our four grown daughters and significant others came with us. The duplex worked well for us with a total of 5 bedrooms. Nice quiet area!
Walking distance to the beach. 3 families between the 2 units. Could hear those on the top floor from the bottom. Consider that, but it worked out great for us. Only contact with property manager was online.
