Nestled in the heart of Mount Desert Island, Somesville is the island’s oldest settlement and a quintessential example of classic Maine charm. Founded in the 18th century, this picturesque village sits along the shores of Somes Sound, a stunning fjard that cuts through the island, offering breathtaking water views and a peaceful atmosphere.

Somesville is known for its iconic white footbridge, a favorite photography spot that spans a tranquil mill pond, reflecting the village’s postcard-perfect beauty. The town is rich in history, with the Somesville Museum & Gardens preserving its legacy as the first European settlement on the island.

Despite its quiet, residential nature, Somesville is centrally located, providing easy access to both Acadia National Park and the surrounding towns of Mount Desert Island. Whether you’re drawn to its historic charm, scenic landscapes, or peaceful waterfront, Somesville offers a serene retreat in one of Maine’s most treasured locations.

The home was lovely and very clean. The property managers were very attentive to our needs however there were no working outside lights on the property. The house is in a dark location and the access was in the back of the property. There were small lights leading to the back yard but they were insufficient. There were no lights at the back door either. That needs to be corrected, It’s just dangerous.

This was such a lovely and perfect home for our Acadia trip! The location worked well being centrally located as we were driving around for hikes and meals. The kitchen was well stocked for 5 of us to cook dinner and breakfast together. And the communication with the team was great! Everyone was responsive and helpful as we planned and arrived. I highly recommend!!

Large, lovely home suitable for families. Had minor wear and tear you expect with a rental. Could use a deep clean (mold in showers, stains). Probably hard to do in busy season

The home is centrally located, aboutr 10-15 min from Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, Jordan Pond and other popular park locations. We were a family group of 10 with a children aged 3-10. Home was comfortable with two sets of washers and dryers and plenty of room. Our only problem was ants in the master bedroom. Large black carpenter ants, I assume, and lots of them. We called the host and he had no immediate solution so we found a store that sold ant spray and we killed hundreds of ants which piled up on the floor, walls and window seals. The host was apologetic when we forwarded photos and had a vacuum sent over the next day for us to be able to clean up dead ants. No other ant problems the next three days. If the ant problem is remedied, I would recommend this location to others .

The house comfortably accommodated 9 of us (5 teens & 4 mothers) for a weekend basketball tournament on MDI. The photos represented the property perfectly! The price to stay 2 nights was fair and commensurate with the quality of the property! The mattresses were surprisingly comfortable! And the living room was large enough to accommodate a midnight dance party and TikTok video creation!! We'd definitely stay again!!

We loved the location of this property! We stayed in MDI for the marathon last weekend and the route went right past the house. We were able to see my wife along the route, which was so much fun for our kids! The house is clean and well furnished. I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bar Harbor.

We stayed in this lovely home for a couple of days for a visit to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Our group included three generations, and all had plenty of comfortable space to spread out. Some special features included two dishwasher drawers, two sets of washer/dryers, and two living areas. The upstairs has a fun sleeping porch feel and includes a full bathroom, and would be perfect for multiple children or a group of girlfriends. The kitchen was well appointed and has a nice island with barstools. We had three deer that visited us in the evenings as well! This was a perfect spot for our first visit to Acadia, and we would not hesitate to stay here again!

This was the perfect place for my family to stay! It is a very quaint home - clean, comfortable and nicely furnished/decorated. Excellent location for visiting Acadia National Park - close enough to everything, but away from the crowds. Host was quick to respond to any questions. Would definitely recommend! Thank you!

We had a great time in Acadia. The house is big and close to the park. We had a great time. The rooms offer different level of comfort. The kitchen is well equiped and we were provided enough towels for our large group. The check-in and out were seamless. The only caveat about the house is that it’s close to the road and the big dorm room has a window unit not verry well sealed. It was noisy. Besides that we had a great stay.
