I spent my 30th birthday here with a group of friends for a ski trip. There was plenty of room for everyone, and it’s close to anything you need. My favorite part was the big open living room that was spacious enough for everyone to spend time together. If you’re a sensitive sleeper, bring ear plugs because you can pretty much hear everything going on in the main room from the bedrooms. But that didn’t keep us from having a great time.
The great room and huge dinning table was perfect for gathering and bonding for a large group. Plenty of cozy spaces to relax indoors and out.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This home is beautiful with a great location. It has plenty of room for relaxing and the creek is right behind it! We loved sitting on the back deck and listening to the water. Town is right down the hill. We would stay here again. Wish they would leave more towels. One per guest is all they provide for the whole stay. Also, they let us get the code without going to welches because we didn’t drive in that way.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house was absolutely stunning. There was a stream that ran right through the back of the property and the sounds was so relaxing. The rooms were the perfect sizes and the living room and lots of space for all out of group activities. All guests loved the property! The upstairs would become really hot during the day but we were able to crack the window open at night and it cooled down perfect. Would stay again!
We rented this house for a get together. It is in a great location- a couple blocks from the middle of Government Camp. For whatever reason, the VRBO map shows it miles from town in the middle of the forest. They charge multiple miscellaneous fees that weren’t explained until after the booking process They charge $30 each for a booking fee, accidental damage, and trash removal. The trash removal fee seemed particularly excessive given that we were staying two nights. After booking, you are instructed to download an app. The app theoretically has check in instructions but the link never worked. I ended up calling to get the door code. We arrived at 4pm and found the cleaners still working. They were very nice and apologized repeatedly. It’s a large house and the two people cleaning it were clearly doing the best they could to get it done in time. The overall cleanliness is as fair. It seems like it needs a deep clean- things like dead flies on the window sills and fireplace mantle, old cans of stain on the deck, fireplace ashes dumped off the side of the deck all need to be addressed. As another reviewer mentioned, the photos show a much newer, cleaner house. There are multiple maintenance issues inside including: the towel rack missing from the walk( brackets still mounted) and 3 of 4 burned out light bulbs in one of the master bedrooms, loose deck railings, one smoke detector missing it’s battery, numerous stains in the carpet, a toilet missing part of its flush button. The listing shows photos of nice deck furniture. It was absent from the property. We were told it was in a warehouse in Portland. The management said they’d try to get us something but no deck furniture ever arrived. Overall, a disappointment stay particularly given the high price charged for this property.
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We went to the mountain house for a weekend with two families of 5. We had more than enough room, one bedroom went unused. This house was cozy and stocked. We had fires, and walked to the trailhead to snowshoe and sled. The entry way benches gave us a nice large area to get our snow gear on and office. The table was huge so we played games and had big dinners together. Our only complaint about the house was the lighting. Lots of mood lighting but hard to see if you wanted to read rules to a game, see what is in your bag, or read a book, our middle aged eyes struggled to see, a few bulbs were out above the table. At the same time the lighting did create a cozy atmosphere. Overall this was a great stay and the host was easy to reach and very nice and accommodating. I was worried about having to pick up the key in Welches but the property management was really helpful and made it work with our skiing schedule and we got to check in a little early. We really loved our stay here and would love to be back!
Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This home looks very charming online and it is. It is also positioned as luxury accommodations though which it is not. Sitting directly in the heart of government camp, the mule deer is positioned perfectly as a great base camp for all your Mt Hood adventures. Beware though, the photos are of a much newer and cleaner cabin than the mule deer is today. I was quite astonished to find most faucets leaking and falling apart, the railing around the deck is falling apart in multiple places and very unsafe, a door to one of the main entry doors fell off while we were there, the entire downstairs smells of mold, and the paper products in the house must have been purchased at the dollar store. Truly the worst part was simply how dirty the place is. One bed had sheets that smelt of someone else’s BO, cob webs everywhere, walls are dirty, base boards seem to not have been cleaned in over an year, the washer smells of mold, and all of this in the middle of a pandemic. It simply did not feel safe. This is the most expensive Rental property in government camp (we paid $1000 a night) and is truly not worth it. The quality of this home would have met my expectations at $300 a night price point. The cleanliness is completely inexcusable at any rate. Really quite disappointing for a property that could be so great.
